The Club Website & Paper Talk

Comments (13)

Why does our mighty club insist on publishing tripe paper talk on the club website? This was today's post from "The Sun":

"Everton boss David Moyes is frustrated at his lack of action in the transfer market. And he needs to raise cash to finalise moves this week for £3m Newcastle striker Alan Smith and a £2.5m loan swoop for CSKA Moscow striker Vagner Love."

Is that really supposed to make us feel warm inside, renew season tickets? Buy shirts? Get behind our club every step of the way. Not only does The Sun" post complete and utter nonsense, our beloved club is allowing those rumours to be posted to further add to the cloud currently languishing over GP. With posts like this on the website and the continual supposedly "well placed interviews" is it any wonder people are now beginning to panic?

Logging in and instead of seeing your club attempting to put a postive spin on things (besides the interviewing of a new squad member each day saying "how short we are in numbers and the kids will come good" which in all reality is beginning to wear thin and is looking more and more forced), it's almost as if "were skint; let's not try to fool anyone" approach has now taken presidence. As if they are attempting to devalue the club to such an extent that someone may take "pity" on BK and buy him out.

Businesses arent based on rumours? I've not checked yet, but surely a PLC wouldn't allow rumours to be posted on the company website? Like 'ive stated its as if were attempting to drive the stock down as low as was can. I'm not one for pulling the wool over people's eyes, but come on... publishing that on your own website hardly captures the nature of what the club used to be/is about.

The cold hard fact is and as yet to be solved through all the talking and rumours and carefully placed interviews: We need squad members ? simple fact, solve it ? quit talking and solve it. Bring back the days of closed doors, dealings been done behind those doors and revealed when its been concluded... I fear though, im asking too much.

Well, Danny, I have to wonder: how long have you been reading the Official Everton Website? A number of fans do seem to have a misconception about what it is they actually do... or clearly should be doing in your case. But this is nothing new. For a number of years now they have carried the "What The Papers Say" segment, which provides a window on... err... what the papers are saying about Everton. I don't see anything wrong with that... although I can see how it might confuse the unwary.

In addition, and this is what really confuses people, they have interviews in which people usually with some sort of connection to the club (and that can be a really vague connection) comment on some current goings on. Now people think: "Hmmm... I'm on the Club website... is it the club saying this? Well, no it's not really. My take is if it's relatively innocuous noise, rumour, whatever, they will put it up there. As far as transfer business is concerned, the Club itself always holds its cards very close... the Moutinho comments from Wyness (were they really just days before before he jumped ship(!) were very rare indeed.

I think on the whole you are reading far too much into this and setting expectations at a level that simply does not jive with what the club website does. They like to pretend that, like the rest of us, they don't really know what's going on either. That way it keeps us all guessing.

Just a thought but if the fans are so pissed off, what must be going through the minds of the players such as Lescott and Arteta? Just how long will it be before they decide to piss off to pastures new [and who would blame them?] I would imagine there would be loads of takers...

This is the worst pre-season I can remember ? 4 days to go and no-one brought in?? We make a big jump from relegation battlers to top 6 material and then blow it all in one season. It could only happen at Everton.

Michael, i do have to agree with Danny here - in fact I posted a similar, shorter comment two nights ago. There should be no room on the OS for rumours concerning potential signings - they should be reporting hard facts. I can go to the Sky Sports page or even TW for speculation.

I don’t think it’s confusing at all - it’s downright annoying. Whatever next - a rumour on the OS that Moyes is resigning? I don’t think so.

I agree about the OS and runours but
I think Sky’s reporting is usually pretty close but if you’re talking about the Echo and the OS then I wouldnt believe a word they say.

Not just cos I rate the lads who run this site but TW gives you a fairly honest up to date view on most things Blue.

You just have to know one or two posters who got a friend in high places and put their rumours into context.

But with the pace of the world and requirement for instant Media we get as much wrong news as right news and lap it up.

Moyes should leave now whilst he can. This is breaking my heart watching OUR great club fall to bits like this. 1 big push to really mix it with the big 4....why not have a good go in the summer...BANG...then it all goes tits up and BK fucks up our chances of success for another 20 years.
I am absolutley discusted with EFC as a whole and feel sick every time I pick up th LFC Echo or any website. I was gonna go the game Sat..like Ive done for 28 years...home and away...but I cannot bear it anymore.I cant walk past the Dixie Dean memorial and cant walk down Goodison RD with the same love anymore...NOT WHILE THAT TWAT KENWRIGHT IS THERE...Something needs to be done.....I hope nobody turns up Sat...dont give that TWAT our money!!!!!

The OS is just plain amatuerish. I only go there for merchandise but soon won’t have to as there won’t be any players at this rate.

TW and TPF are pretty much up to date and upfront with all matters Everton. Sure you get the odd bullshit but the OS is only bullshit nowadays. Good job and thanks MK, LL and co. BTW

I’m totally hacked off with the Official Site. I know a certain amount of Propoganda is expected but EFC have taken this to new levels the last two weeks. The stories on there are verging on pathetic.

"Jags says Baxter is Grounded" WTF, does the site mean, he will be playing Saturday because we havent got any other players in.

FFS stop complaining about every little thing..

Most clubs websites are tacky and have useless info.

We are not alone on this on. As for the website being crap astecially really??? Get a grip its actually very well layed out and its design is pleasent.

Of course the sotries are sometimes going to be mundane or pointless but what do you want them to put up there instead?

As for the rumour what the papers say bit. In this day and age people seem to be obsessed with that sort of bullshit. Every sports website carries that section because every team in the land has fans that buy into it and love reading them. Simple as

I agree 100% Danny. Its all just shite.
I am so fed up all this shite I just couldnt give a flying f*ck anymore. I dont want to hear how Phil Jagielka is aiming for silverware , thinks the young players are great and if he thinks the dressing rooms need a lick of paint, I honestly dont give a monkeys if Nuno Valente thinks Moutinho would be a great signing. I couldnt care less about what the players think about anything anymore. Its ALL bollox. Soundbites and shite. Boring. Shut up and play football.

Well I think that when you read about Pienaar being injured in the Papers section before the OS even confirm it (still not on the injuries page either by the way), then it kind of shows the lack of attention to detail that this club seem to show at all levels.

Well according to some French journo on Setanta Sports news last night he said M?Bia would most definatley be an Everton player after his time at the Olympics! Well let's hope so hey because this pre-season as become a nightmare. I mean we can't even muster up ONE new signing for the first game of the season. I for one thought we?d at least sign one possibly two new players before the Blackburn game!!

Sounds like I’m in a minority, but I kind of like the "What the papers say" section.

The OS very rarely publishes any info first, normally it appears in the rags or elsewhere on the internet first....so its a good way of finding out whats in the papers without having to buy them and scour through them.

On the relevant page I think it also states that the stories printed are not the views of Everton FC, so why anyone would imagine that anything there would need to be confirmed or denied by the OS news is beyond me.
