Have a Little Faith

I keep reading about how Everton are 10 players short and how we only have three available midfielders for the game against Blackburn but is that really true? Don't get me wrong Everton clearly need new players and are short if they want to maintain a healthy league campaign and Euro run but are we really as short as we think? Ok we have 3 midfielders available for Blackburn, Arteta, Osman and Neville that sounds really awful but isn't that a little unfair to Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling? Both Gosling and Rodwell have been involved in nearly all the friendlies and to be fair have their performances been any different to those of the more established midfielders like Osman and Neville? It's a bit of an injustice to list the number of players we have available and to completely ignore the youngsters. It's fair to argue that they lack experience but still they have done fairly decent pre-season and they never will get experience until they start playing.

Maybe Moyes isn't rushing out to replace Carsley because he feels that Rodwell may just be able to do a job there. Carsley was important to the team but was he really that good of a player? Is there a chance that Rodwell could do his job until Moyes finds a suitable replacement? It may be a bit early for Gosling too but can he not do a job for a couple of games while Moyes is looking for that big-money midfielder? Moyes could go out tomorrow and find three or four midfielders to make up the numbers but what's the point if they simply aren't all that special? I would rather Moyes hold-fire, use Gosling and Rodwell for a couple of games while he continues his quest to find that special player (Mountinho?).

Let's have a little faith in players like Gosling and Rodwell, surely they are good enough to get us through a couple of games. Reinforcements must be on the way and surely a midfield of Neville, Rodwell, Osman, Gosling and Arteta has a chance against Blackburn?

My head's gone!

When I was a kid being an Everton fan was difficult enough but all this shit's just getting too much.

Are we skint? Is the money tied up in the ground move? Will Dave sign anyone? (and stop being so dour when it comes to tactics)? Will Dave sign? What's happened to the CEO? Is the stadium falling down? Are we gonna persue Tesco's annex cowshed? Are the council gonna help us get some new digs? Are the club gonna ever stop feeding us lies?

...isn't the sound of a cork coming out of the top of a bottle of whisky just the most wonderful sound

Like everyone else, I have been in despair over the Summer following the saga at Goodison. It could only happen at Everton. We seem to have the same curse as Manchester City - one step forward; two steps back. My thirteen year old son seems to have the right approach. Come hell or high water, that we get behind the blues. You have to keep the faith. The first three games are all winnable. Let's see what new faces arrive before the window closes, and see how we shape up in the first three games.

While we must have new faces, it will be good to see youth get its chance. Rodwell looks exceptional. As the saying goes, if you're good enough, you're young enough. Roll on 3pm on Saturday when I hope we will shout the roof off Goodison.

I am not naive. However what can we change? David Moyes and the board know what needs to be done. For now, what matters the most is ? Come On You Blues!

A midfield of Neville, Rodwell, Osman, Gosling and Arteta will get ripped to shreds by most PL sides in my opinion. I don’t care how promising the youngsters may be - that is an absurd starting line-up for a top 5 PL side - though I accept that due to circumstances, it may well be the one that starts at the weekend. I would have Baines in ther incidentally.

No matter, when I think back to Reid, Bracewell, Steven and Sheedy, I despair!

"Wait and see........." Wait and see what? Its Wednesday night and we're still waiting Bill. We have less than 48hrs to get someone in for Saturday's game. If a player is going to be signed its going to have to be a EU player, if they're going to have any chance of making the team. If M'bia signs, great, but is he going to play ? no as he's in China. If the Love loan deal is actually true, is he going to be able to play ? likely not due to international clearance and work permit application. So basically we are going to have a huge amount of teenagers making their league debuts on Saturday.

Well here we are kickoff around the corner and all media speculation seems like lies and Pienaar is injured now. I'm simply wondering if there is anyone left who still feels confident ahead of Blackburn... and if so please inspire me because I am losing hope.

John, sorry to be so blunt, but wake up and smell the coffee mate. These kids haven’t forced their way into the first team on merit - we are down to the bare bones! I hope they do go on and prove me wrong, but you put kids into the team from a position of strength. It’s not fair on them to throw them in at the deep end when we obviously have problems and the fans are completely deflated at us signing no-one and losing 5 players (without counting injuries and Olympic selections). If we still haven’t signed anyone by the end of the month, the atmosphere in the stadium will be quite bitter towards the board in particular. Is this the atmosphere you would want to make your debut in?
Add the fact that we have a manager who is refusing to sign his contract until he has assurances about where the club are going, and it’s clear we are in a mess.
No CEO, no money, no signings, no new contract for Moyes = no hope for the season I’m afraid. I agree with Big Nev - we’ll be lucky to finish in the top half at this rate. Anyone got a bag with a few rabbits in?

John whilst I admire your optimism I’m afraid it’s totally misplaced although I have it on good authority that we already have Mouthinho at the club.

He is also known as bullshit Billy or "Mouth in Ho" which can be the only explanation for the crap that comes out of his mouth.

By the way can you name the 6 subs we have to name for Saturday as well as the starting 11.

Whats the situation with Baines is he still injured I keep seeing people mentioning that Valente will start. Oh to be kept in the dark whats the situation with these signings?

Intelligent post there from Tom...

Another thing that I’ve been thinking about is the morale of the players. How is the Yak feeling for instance? Can anyone honestly say he will be totally motivated after leaving Middlesbrough to join a more ambitious club who were at the top of the league and playing in Europe - and then finding himself in this mess, where we have let 5 players go and lost a further 5 to injury or Olympics?
This isn’t a slight on Yak, but he and the rest of the players must be feeling totally dejected after spending the summer dreaming of another top 6 finish and strengthening the squad, only to find we have done the opposite and are in a mess...

I’m sure they will all do their best come saturday, as let’s not forget we have a good dressing room and players that give their all - but the preparation for this season has been a shambles...

It is just stupid to debate the merits of untried youngsters (especially when we have lost pre-season games in Switzerland and the US) - if we have not signed new players before Saturday the simple fact is that we have been betrayed by the club. Just who takes personal responsibility is hard to say as we don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes - but we have been shafted good and proper. Just when you think it couldn’t get worse........

Why the hell won’t Moyes say that he’ll stick with the youngsters all along then? Are we playing poker here? The opponents will know we’re fielding academy players as soon as they read the teamsheet this saturday. It’ll take 1 second to sink in and 90 mins to run over our children.

Moyes is forced to play them, not by choice. Fucking hell if they were good why are we going for that portugese bloke?

Love him or hate him? It was a young Wayne Rooney who brought a new euphoria to this club and had the place absolutely buzzing (and I still enjoy watching him play now, with being a football fan myself). And given the chance these young lads can do it for us, mixed in with our experienced big signing senior players! Vaughan, Hibbert, Anichebe and Osman came through the ranks and on their day can be a handful for any team in Europe and so can these new young lads. So let?s get behind them and it won?t be long before all the premier teams stand up and start noticing them! A few good games and goals and Goodison will be buzzing again and packed solid shouting, and singing their names! And them cowboys over the park will be waving the cheque book again, take Gerrard and Torres out of that team and they are very average.

Lets hope that EFC can do what Fergie did with his youngsters at Man Utd..I really am grasping at straws but Fergie was ridiculed for bringing Scholes, Butt, Beckham, Giggs and the Nevilles through..but then he had a really promising group !! Im just hoping one or two make it from our bunch. Over the past few seasons we have dumped our youngsters almost en masse at the end of each season...then sometimes bought a couple back after they have been honed and improved elsewhere...maybe this time we may be able to bring one or two through ourselves...Im sure the club has enough money to bring in top class players, at least one or two...they could well help our youngsters develop to their full potential. Instead of the annual cull.

From what I’ve seen Rodwell is the only one anywhere near ready and even he needs time. Gosling isn’t very talented to be honest and Baxter is far from ready despite being a good talent.

I have faith in young Rodwell but you have to be realistic, he isnt ready to replace Carsley. I wasn’t a big Carsley fan but you can’t doubt he was experienced and knew the defensive midfield position very well. He always offered bite and he knew and and where to move.

Rodwell technically is already ahead of Lee but in terms of positioning, phyical strength, tackling ability and the nous to read situations he’s far off. He was a centre half a year ago, hes seriously only been playing centre midfield for a year. In a way it shows he’s a fast developer but it’s clear to see that he isn’t ready.

To be honest I was confident until Pienaar got injured, I thought wed easily be able to supply Yak with Arteta, Osman and Pienaar in the team. Now he’s injured I’m not confident at all. Osman is going to have to be moved to the wing, Jagielka will probably come into midfield and someone like Jutkiewicz or Golsing will come in. That badly weakens us, we have our better players playing out of position and we have untried youngsters coming in, Im very nervous to be honest.

If we do win, it’s going to be back agains the walls stuff similar to a few years ago when Turner got sent off and Beattie scored the header. Anyway, I wish the player luck, theyll definatly need it.

Arteta is going to have to have a superman performance, he really is.

As much as its annoying and frustrating to see we are in the shits with players, cash well everything, does anyone not see this as a great stepping stone of finally using youth players who actually are supposed to be potentially good if not great?

Say after 3 games no new signings come in and we have won all 3... what then?

Moyes is the best man for the job when it comes to getting a lot out of an average and understrength side a la last two or three seasons.

I think Rodwell will be fine. Look how Moyes moulded Carsley who by the way was crap until Moyes deployed him into the player for us he became.

As no new signings would be ready for Saturday anyway, and given that Vaughn will be suspended and not match fit anyway I want to see the below team sheet:
Howard
Neville
Valente
Lescott
Yobo
Rodwell
Jags
Baines
Arteta
Osman
Yakubu

Bench: Lots of kids.

I think the above team should beat Blacburn, however everyone forgets that the of the few midfielders and forwards available none had a full pre season hence are not probably match fit as Arteta and Osman were recoving from injuries and the Yak was late back due to international commitments.

You said we only had three midfielders then listed two plus Neville. We only have two midfielders and prefer to play a five man midfield. I’ve been as positive as anyone on this site over the years, particularly last season when others were giving Moyes and the team ridiculous criticism but I can’t see anything positive in our current situation. If we sign five good players before the end of August then fine, we’ll be sorted, but there seems to be no evidence that its happening whatsoever. We need four midfielders now, and a replacement for Johnson. That would see us through to January and we’d probably need a couple more then. We are a total shambles.

Mark Nevitt, I like the attitude of your young Son! Okay, the situation is worrying and it?s pissing me off! But we still have some decent players. Let?s have a go and see what happens. As long as we can feed the Yak, we?ll be sound!

I think we can win. Blackburn have had players leaving (Bentley) and others wanting to leave (Santa Cruz), so they?re not full strength. Also, someone said Pedderson has a knock. Not sure about that, but it would be great if he was out. Can you imagaine the reaction from the miserable, hugely catastrophising lot on here if we lost?! They will react like the world has ended. Cheer up you lot, life can?t be that bad, can it? There?s more to life than football! Here?s hoping for a win! COYB
