The Mail Bag

We've been here before.....

Comments (19)

I'll admit it, I'm close to throwing in the towel. I can defend Kenwright & Co no longer, this pre-season has been a complete shambles and I've lost all of the hope for the club this season that I had over last year. Only Moyes remaining gives me any faith that this year won't be a complete shocker.

But back to the title of this mail. Sadly, my fellow Evertonians, we've all been here before. This tale of pre-season hype/rumour and then nothing happening till right up to the final hour is not new, in fact, it's been pretty much the same year in and year out for the last 5 years or so. So why, oh why, do we expect anything to be different each year?? Remember 2003 - nobody had signed all pre-season, and then at the final hour we came out with 4 new signings in Martyn, McFadden, Kilbane & Jeffers back in on loan. We've got previous of leaving it all to the last minute so don't be surprised to see more players coming in, but not till the very end of the deadline. A lot of people blame Moyes for dithering, but hopefully, it should be abundantly clear to most that Moyes has his targets and then it's Evertons "commercial" men who are the ones who hold up the deal as they agree wages, fees etc. Remember Kenwright's soundbite that you don't need £5 million to buy a £5 million player??

Anyway - in amongst all the doom and gloom, the point of this email is rather than moan about the lack of signings year-in, and year-out as we all do - let's just wait until the end of the month before condemning the club/Moyes/Kenwright to death - we all know we should have signed players early, but we haven't. We all know that we've missed an opportunity to build upon last years great season by getting off to a flyer with an improved squad. But sadly moaning about it aint going to change a thing so I'm afraid we've just got to live with it.

Who knows, come the 1st of Sept, we may have all the players we crave in the squad and these last few months will all be forgotten.

EVERTON ARE AN ABSOLUTE JOKE. plain and simple.

We are the lauging stock of the EPL. We clearly have no ambission and it would not suprise me one bit if Lescott, Yak, Arteta, Cahill etc do one on January.

I cant see the bright side anymore. There isnt one and I am just gutted that I have paid so much money for a season ticket to line the pockets of a club that does not give a crap about its fans. CLEARLY!

I wouldn?t mind if they were honest and said there was no money, or the right players are not available or we cant agree fee?s etc.... but there is nothing! No motivation what so ever to get behind the team.

This whole summer, we have bid and confirmed bids for 2 players. Moutinho and Ramsay while everyone else strengthens.

Top 10 next year will be a miracle but make no mistake that Moyes and the others above, will not be around come next season.

Saturdays team will have one striker, 2 senior midfielders and a load of kids.

We had a real chance to get 15 points on the board straight away, early one and we have blown it. Blackburn, Stoke, West Brom must be rubbing there hands. They will tonk us.

And Moyes is not helping by stalling on his new deal, he clearly is weighing up the pro?s and cons to jump ship.

McFadden and AJ sold at a combined cost of nearly £20m and we have not spent a penny!

Pathetic excuse for a football club. END OF

Got say i agree whole heartedly with Bens comments, to suggest that we should wait and see who comes by the end of the month is laughable, how many top class players are signed on deadline day (Nigel Martyn a possible exception).

If Everton were actively pursuing Mouthino, they would have been back with another bid by now or should have held their hands up and said we cannot afford this bloke, lets look elsewhere e.g. Michael Johnson at City would cost circa £10 million, great player who will get better.

We need to replace Carsley with some quality before the months end, to let him go and not bring in a back up prior to the season starting is ludicrous, Neville or the Jag could not do that job.

Come on Everton, time for the talking to stop and to give the fans the signings that they deserve to see.

Calm down, Moyes went on record as saying, and I quote "Hopefully in the next week or so I?ll get it [the new contract] tied down and get it done." (Moyse, D. 30th July 2008)

So no problem...

What happens if we win 3-0 on Saturday?
Has anyone even contemplated the idea that we can actually field a team of professional footballers who are capable of beating a lower ranked team who have problems of their own?

A ball hasn't been kicked yet and we are all screaming from the rooftops that the end of the world is nye. Let's wait until we have played the games we have this month and thank God that it is lower opposition that we have whilst we are without the necessary members of our team. I think we all know that players are on the way, but they aint going to be effective in the next few weeks either way.

Keep the faith Blues. That's all that we can do from where we are sat.

Ben, I’d still make Newcastle the laughing stock of the Premiership... but give us time...

I agree with Nick, no matter how bad things get or however bad they might seem, we will never be a Newcastle or Man City. Also, in a funny way this summer of ’discontent’ could work to our advantage. Backs to the walls, us against the world mentality and the togetherness that it brings. A bit like 2004/2005.

I have to concur with Ben also sadly.

The way the club is being run is an absolute joke! The general peception of Everton 6 months ago was that we had a realistic chance of cracking the Sky 4! Now, in the words of the BBC prediction, we will struggle to make the top 10!

It's really depressing to watch, I don't feel the whole blame lies with Kenwright though. It is everyone at the club ? including Moyes! No-one seems to have a clue! players should have been brought in weeks ago. and I don't want to hear that age old crap about the right players not being available! Ujfalusi, Behrami, Aimar, Reyes, Baptista, Annan, Appiah, Fernandes, G.van Santos, Van der Vaart, Huntelaar... the list goes on all these players have been available and most went for under £5M! I'm not saying we should have signed them all but it goes to show quality players have been on the move!!!

I wasn't a huge Johnson fan but he was the 2nd best striker in the squad. Anichebe is nowhere near as good yet and neither is Vaughan who will probably play about 10 games of the season if we are lucky!

Its' a disgrace to be in the position we are in simply because it would have been so easy to not have been!

I hope the delay in contract signing by Moyes is due to the money men being busy trying to get new players to sign! Just got the same old sinking feeling about the way EFC has always done transfers!

It?s a Catch-22 situation. Moyes won't sign a new contract unless the money is there for new players and the new players won't come whilst Moyes isn?t 100% the manager.

After that, it?s not a case of when the signings come, it?s that they HAVE to come and should be here ALREADY. End of.

I can?t say with full confidence the lack of signings isn?t Moyes?s fault; however, I feel pretty confident the blame lies elsewhere... Man Utd have been slow to sign new players too - if that?s anything to go by?

For the sake of Moyes and BK, whatever signings are in the offing they had better be damn good and shrewed moves, otherwise there will be trouble.

It does make me wonder just what has held up the transfers.

Am I worried? HELL YES!!!!

@Nick: I’d have had Newcastle a close second to....

@Ben@ Manchester City!! The so called "new dawn" of "Frank" Shinawatra - which had many people on here clamouring for an (alleged) murdering despot but supposedly benign benefactor as a Kenwright replacement not too long ago.

If you believe the reports they are scrabbling for loans for wages for their squad on a weekly basis.

Expect financial collapse somewhere in the middle of the season which makes our problems look tiny in comparison....

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.....

Way too much doom and gloom here. We need to add to our squad by deadline day. We should think ourselves capable of beating 3 promoted teams, and our 2 harder games, Blackburn & Pompey are at home.

It?s all the whinging by Evertonians that?s making us a laughing stock. If there weren?t so many forums full of complaints there?d be nothing to laugh at.

I actually believed that 3 decent signings this summer would tip the balance and we would rise above the reds at least. Our first eleven is, apart from Torres & Gerrard, better than theres and a couple of class additions would have made finishing above them easilly achievable.
But we have blown it and I’ll be happy to finish above Newcastle as it stands!
I said when we sold Rooney I wouldnt go another game but I relented. I’d even have gone to Kirkby, but I wont go anymore games until the club raise their ambition.
I’m hugely disappointed that we have missed this chance to advance.

Let’s face it where skint. If we had any money we would have a made a couple of signings by now. I actually don’t believe anything BK says. He talks so much shit, it actually stinks. (Shit talks).

Sorry but I have to disagree with Everton Carter, We have every right to be annoyed at OUR club,Last season at the last game we came away thinking that we were heading into the next season with a decent if some what small squad. we all did our bit laying out our hard earned cash for season tickets and at this moment instead of any strengthening its actually weaker ,. the money received for Mcfaddan and Johnson might seem to be good business at first sight until you realise that not one penny has gone on replacements I know a lot of fans did not rate Jimmy and where disapointed with AJ,But if it was a choice between them and a empty space I think most will agree that we perhaps should have kept them. as for Moyes not signing his contract and having cash to spend I would have thought that its clear that while Bill has given him a certain amount of money that its nowhere near what he was rightly expecting taken in consideration the transfer fees received and prize money for finishing fifth. thats the delay and Dave has always said if he leaves he will see out his contract which is fair enough as if we are frustrated what must he be.I recall Bill on sky telling us to watch this space well I’m still waiting its been a lot longer than 24 hours. If we really are the Peoples club would our Chairman like to tell us whats going on.

Ben Chambers,

Has the world ended Fella? Could you be any more miserable? You sound like you can see into the future, any chance of the lottery numbers? FFS, get a grip man. You?re acting like we?ve just entered the conference. Oh wait for it, in four years we will be. You?re supposed to be a supporter, support.

Roy, I?m sorry but AJ and JM were average at best, best to get rid. It?s midfield where we are short anyway. Look the situation is not great, could be so much better, etc. but we have some decent players, got good kids, hopefully have a few signings on the way and we have a good manager and good support (well most supporters anyway).

A ball has not been kicked, stop catastrophising FFS!

Damian Wilde,

I do support and always have, always will but I still have a right to an opinion and my opinion is that the club is a shambles and its being run by a bunch of dick heads at board level.

People who tell blatant lies to sky cameras, knowing full well that us thousands upon thousands of suffering blues are clinging to the hope of a mere sniff of a signing as we continue to renew our tickets in our hoards, like always.

We are being treated like mugs. I dont like parting with money to have the piss taken. As a loyal supporter I have a right, like we all do, to know whats going on and why we have no players and why we are bringing plenty in and spending fuck all.

We are acting like Leeds were once upon a time, look at them now.

Right now, the club is a joke and its plain to see. I f I want to feel shit about this disgrace of a situation then I will mate.

If you wanna keep the rose tinted glasses on, do so, its your choice. I pay my money like you and that entitles me to rejoice when we win, and say something when we are a fucking joke.... LIKE NOW!!

I would like to see us invest with the big boys but remember what happens when clubs spend big and get nothing in return (Leeds). I believe David Moyes has tried to get players in, in another climate I think everyone would be saying what a great bit of business selling AJ was. It has left us threadbare I agree but our main players are all still here and with a fit Cahill and the younger players coming into the squad perhaps it might not be all gloom and doom this season
