It's not just about Blackburn

Comments (26)

I've been reading all the posts recently and most posters think we only have to show up with 11 players on Saturday and the 3 points will be ours.

My first reaction is "There are no easy games in the Premier League," and my second reaction is "The Premier League is a marathon not a sprint".

Now, granted we MAY hopefully get a few new signings in before the deadline in 3 weeks and we MAY keep our highly regarded manager. BUT, and here's the rub, we may destroy some of the youngsters' confidence and we will damage the team spirit that Moyes has painstakingly built up in the last few years, especially if the results don't go for us and supporters turn their disappointment into venom.

So what's the answer?

Well, that's not easy having already created a lot of bad will amongst supporters but it would certainly help the mood if we had a press conference attended by the chairman, Acting Chief Executive and manager — if not others (Green?Earl) — to present a united front and explain the problems and confirm they are all agreed on the way forward.

Now I know Moyes has stated he will sign his contract and Kenwright has said he is excited by the DVDs of potential signings that Moyes has given him but we were promised that they would spend every hour trying to sign players and it hasn't happened so far hence the total unrest and dissatisfaction amongst supporters and I am sure the squad.

The second thing that needs to happen is for Kenwright to give Moyes written confirmation as an addendum to his contract on the funding and planning for new signings so he can sign his contract.

The third and most logical thing is to get a player signed soon and we now hear Appiah and Michael Johnson are available amongst a host of others so we really have no excuse even if its just to boost the squad numbers and give everybody a lift.

The fourth and most important thing for me is to get a new owner in ASAP who can bring honesty, commercial ability and stability to our once proud club.

"most posters think we only have to show up with 11 players on Saturday and the 3 points will be ours."

Now I’ll admit that I haven’t been reading everything posted on here lately due to the fact that I’m depressed enough already, but I am a little confused as to where you’ve been reading these posts suggesting we only need turn up against Blackburn to get 3 points.

There isn’t much optimism of any sort on this site at the moment (understandably) but I have certainly not come across this bullish attitude about our superiority over Rovers.

11 Players? We’ll be lucky if we can field that many at this rate! I must admit that I do feel Blackburn could struggle this season, but you just never know. Remember when we sold Rooney, bought Bent and everyone earmarked us for relegation? Well the rest is history, but it goes to show that you just don’t know in this game.

COYB!!

What happens if we dont sign any one by Saturday and we start against Blackburn
with the kids and the waste of space Osman in midfield and we end up getting drubbed 3 or 4 nil????.Will there be a riot? Will fans just shrug and walk away?

I think Saturdays game will show us exactly where we stand this season and I for one am not looking forward to it one bit....My money is on a riot if we lose by the way

Win or loose. I think everyone should invade the pitch after the game and show massive demostration. Leave your boots on the pitch before you all go home.

I think, even though it’s a home game, I expect us to play negatively and try and win by the odd goal in 1.

That said, I hope we don’t piss all over Blackburn and then have to listen to shite telling us that the players that we have already are good enough for this season.

I’d be suprised if anyone signs for us until Moyes signs, so lets hope that happens soon and we can open the checkbook.

Good idea Shaun

Cause the FA to fine our already cash strapped club a huge amount due to an unability to control the crowd - the could even make us play some games behind closed doors (like in Italy) reducing our revenue streams even more and stopping us from having an spare cash.

If you want to complain finid a way that doesn’t make the situation even worse.

@Rob, it might be worth it. The knob heads at the top will soon get the message. You never know, they might start looking for new investers, Instead of filling us with the same shite. ’where looking for investments 24/7.’ If where lucky, we might sign couple of players.

Shaun. Why give them a ready made excuse?

If they are actually being honest then it doesn’t help

If they are being dishonest your giving them a cop out. I could imagine the line when no one was signed and no investors

’sorry but the fine wipped out our transfer fund’ and
’once investors saw the pitch invasion against Blackburn they all pulled out claiming an unwillingness to work with such fans

Either way we loose out

Sensible words Rob..

Barring the value of the players and our assets (ha!) any potential investor will value EFC on the quality of its fan base.

Think about it Shaun. Two wrongs do not make a right my friend.

On another note do you remember who scored for us at home against Blackburn last year??

We played some dire footy (enough for manny to walk away) and the only shining light was... McFadden.

The Blackburn game...... It’s like those Everton games of the late 90’s....If Blackburn score first we are done. Moyes is hardly renowned for his timely proactive substitutions at the best of times nevermind with the bench we have on sat.
I think we’ll play an ugly 4-5-1 negative match, score early, attempt to shut up shop and give up a late equalizer....

1-1

If Vaughn is available... I’d love for us to go 4-4-2 and go at them. It would help alieviate our shortage of midfielders and give us a better cutting edge....

However we all know , Mr.Moyes will be ultra coservative..... coyb

40 points till were safe ! ;)

The trouble is Jay, no one knows who or what to believe anymore
Has DM really got the funds to spend as Kenwright claims ?

If Kenwright cant raise any money, then it proves one thing to me, He does not know the club he claims to love.

If BK came clean and told the fans "look guys were in deep shit, we’re totally brassic, I cant raise the dosh and until someone steps in we’re going to have to rely on the kids" what do you think would happen ?
Evertonians would’nt like it, but would prefer the cards on the table approach every time to being treated like idiots.
To a man they would get behind the team, the atmosphere of the Wimbledon and Coventry games would be recreated, the old lady would shake

A crowd never did win football game, but on many occasions it has influenced one, a young team cant be inspired to change a draw into a precious win
The board has’nt done anything at all to encourage the sort of atmosphere required for the first half dozen home games
Any anouncement comming from the club lately has only served to confuse, anger and alienate the very people who can make the difference

I cannot believe we have no transfer budget.....BK said we are working every hour to bring the players in that DM wants...period !! We have saved a fortune in salaries and sold McFadden and AJ so there MUST be money....we have almost as many backroom staff as we have players..we just signed a number 2 for DM..teams like Stoke, Sunderland and Fulham are spending money..all our closest challengers like Villa are strengthening their squads...obviously BK has a few aces up his sleeve that he cannot divulge just yet...everything will turn up trumps and EFC will live happily ever after...Hans C. Everyone is assuming we have money simply because we sold AJ and Macca but we don’t know the finances of our own club. Maybe that money was used to pay off last year’s sigings and as a result of the credit crunch Kenwright cannot secure a loan based on future Sky revenue.

Something stinks, something is going on in the background that could completely undermine the club further.

With so much uncertainty I really feel it will cause a terrible start to the season. I just hope the players we do have can rally together and forget the mess we are in.

Dave I totally agree with you.
I personally cant stand liars which is why I dislike BK so much but as Trevor said we surely cant be so short of funds after selling Aj,McFadden and saving about 3 million in wages during the close season.
Thats beside the 30 million plus from Sky and the theoretical 12 million we had to buy Fernandes last August.
We currently look like Chester not Everton so even if they are short and want to sell there are enough funds to punt on a few reinforcements.

Jay,it may surprise you to know that I agree! I am a died in the wool supporter of BK,DM and even KW but the way us loyal fans have been abused over the past few weeks is appalling.
Now I put all the blame on the absolutely useless Media/PR Department but somebody above them has to take hold of the situation and realise that throughout the fanbase,Everton is being viewed as a sinking ship-which I know it isn’t!
So, please, please, somebody, tell us something soon before even I lose the faith!

There was a lady on here at the weekend and she said she got autographs from DM and BK.

She asked BK if he isgoing to buy players soon and DM said i hope so and then she stated that BK said by the Blackburn game we will be very suprised!

Well we are going into Thursday now and the only thing i am suprised about is the fact that for a moment i actually believed that statement!

Monday was full of reports that the club will be transfer crazy this week and now the silence is unbearable, this week has dragged, come on EFC FFS, talk to us, are we f&$£ed or will we still be "suprised" come saturday?!!!!

Dave Wilson:

"A crowd never did win football game, but on many occasions it has influenced one, a young team cant be inspired to change a draw into a precious win"

Surely, a young team is the one that can be influenced most of all?

My biggest problem with all the talk of a protest is the effect on the young players. We are, implicitly, saying that the young players are good enough for the first team right now. Whether that’s true or not is not relevent. We need those young players to play at the top of their ability on Sat. A quiet Goodison, booing or anti board chanting is only going to make them freeze.

First rule of fan protests (in my humble opinion): they take place after the game. You cheer the lads, you get behind them, you don’t boo any of them during the game, you applaud them off (if they deserve it). Then, and only then, do you turn your attention to the directors box.

Because, after all, we all want Everton to win and win well at the weekend.

A CEO Who tells the truth!!
I have just clicked the link to the Independent from the BBC gossip page and lo and behold Peter Storrie is informing Pompey fans that something called a credit crunch has happened. Does anyone know whether this may affect us? Joking apart, I fear the money for AJ and McFadden has slipped into the black hole that is bankings "bonus scheme" .

Doddy
you’re the one bright light in my dismal week.
To know you are now seeing through the shambles we are in is a great relief and I mean that.
We all care passionately about our club and there’s nothing wrong in pointing out the good in people and being supportive of someone under pressure but when that person or group constantly deceive you it’s time to lose faith in them.
Welcome to the club.

Richard Dodd,
Some of your posts suggest you know BK well enough to have his office number. I don’t , but everything I hear from him suggests he spends far too much of his own time and money(maybe ours too!) Flogging dead horses. Did I read somewhere on this site that this year alone he had ploughed £255,000 into New Labour , only for them to KB DK! Whatever anyone feels about the Ground move, that must have pissed him off.

Richard Dodd, did you not say in your post several days ago that we should all be patient as the cash flow problem which Everton are currently experiencing will be resolved this Friday. You are now pleading for somebody at the club to let the fans know what’s going on. Can you please explain these two contradictory statements?

Nothing contradictory at all, Mr Ryan. I was told earlier in the week that 15th August would see the impasse on finance streams resolved. Why couldn?t the Media/PR Department make a straightforward and honest statement to that effect rather than ?dropping it out?through the back door?
Jay?s original post requests a press conference which would certainly help to disolve the feeling of absolute doom so in evidence throughout Evertonland. I totally agree with that sentiment.
As you know,I support the establishment 100% but they must urgently do something to disavowe the widely held concept that they are in meltdown. Please Mr Ross, wake up!

The problem appears to be Richard that ?the problem? is out of the hands of your Mr Ross.

Indeed, the real ?problem? is that the problem is even out of the hands of BK as he is beholden to his investors and the banks who have loaned them the cash so far.

And for them ?the problem? is either the global credit crunch that is affecting their capital reserves elsewhere, or that DK was their main guarantee of getting their money back.

So now we?re in a fire sale with no money and no new players either come saturday.

Now that?s what i call a problem!!

The AJ Mc F cash has been used to pay off wholly or in part, Green and Earl, who subbed Bill when times were better, now in poorer times, they want to get(back) while the getting is good.

This is how Bill works, how he funds his shows, he shmoozes all the investors and these ’angels’, maybe dozens, sometimes even get their money back, if the show runs long enough and gets 60%attendances.

G & E have no doubt gathered that this DK BK production will not give the mousetrap any worries. And in the words of Louis B Mayer, Bills verbal contract is not worth the paper it’s printed on, so....include us out.

This alledged using of Club money to pay off private debts, if proven should be enough for the EGM to boot him out.
