It hurts getting beat, doesn't it?

Before the game, I think it was safe to say that we were all worried for Everton. During the first 20 minutes I think we all got a bit more worried. An average Blackburn team managed to cause so much panic for everyone at Goodison. If we look back on the game, they probably deserved to win, but I am now a little bit more settled with things, but still worried.

We need players that is a certain, anyone really. But seeing Areta start to believe in himself during the second half makes me feel better, seeing the Yak scoring as usual makes me feel better (not his tackling skills though). I thought that if you added Cahill to yesterday's team we probably would have won the game. Thats how close we would have been to having three points, just one player!

I know it's not an ideal situation, but when big Victor is back, Vaughan, Cahill and even Hibbo, we'll beat a lot of teams just with them. But if we just buy 3 quality players (two midfield and a forward) plus maybe 4 squad players, then I am certain we'll continue on the up. Its not that far when you think about it, but with each day passing by, it seems more and more distant. It's that much of a fine line isn't it? Again it hurts knowing that without injuires and possibly 3 more players many of us wouldn't be so worried.

I heard Arteta's interview after the game on Everton TV, saying we shouldn't have to put pressure on Rodwell or Baxter. This is very true, but imagine these lads in three years time, if they are able to play around more people like Arteta and Yakubu. It hurts getting beat doesn't it, but we all pray that we don't feel this for much longer. We deserve better.

"Imagine these lads in three years time" - aye, they’ll be feckin good players for Newcastle, ManUre or whichever destination they end up.Any youngster with a good market price won’t be strolling around Goodison in a years time, let alone three.

I hate this site at this time of year. There is always so mch doom and gloom and inevitably we do ok.....

Maybe i am wrong this time and we are up shit creek without a paddle and are going bust and have to sell our best players and best yougsters and will end up like scummy Leeds but...........................

like every other year we over deliver (maybe not on pre-Premiership years) so please lets sit this one out and back David and the rest of the boys!!!

I can’t wait for Cahill to come back and I think he’ll make a big difference up front but that’s not where our main problem was yesterday. We need some steel in midfield. At a minimum, we need a Carsley replacement URGENTLY. It is criminal that we have not filled that position.

How frustrating. Opening Day was full of hope. Last season was a fantastic performance and one where we shoved all the doom mongers quotes down their throats. And now an opening day failure.

And why? Who did we sign this summer? Nobody, because we are waiting for a so called world beater whose club don't want to sell him. So what did we end up with? A threadbare squad shorn of numbers because we have injuries and Olympic call-ups. And what we end up doing is throwing in the kids ? admittedly they played OK and will be good in the future ? but over half the team on the pitch were defenders. No wonder we didn't win a match we were supposed to walk!

This is not a comment about Everton, this is a summary of Manchester United today. Seems their squad is so threadbare, they had 6 defenders on the field at the end of the match ? as we did!

So doom and gloom - you bet! And problems. But when we get Pienaar, Anichebe, Cahill, Hibbert back - Baxter, Rodwell and Gosling have picked the pace of the Premier League and maybe two or three signings in the next 2 weeks, we will be looking OK - and I bet there are similar statements at Old Trafford (OK smart asses - different names but same sentiments) and they are a well run club.

Not an auspicious opening but what about those competitors for 5th place? Spurs, Portsmouth and City all went down on Saturday even though they spent a few bob during the close season. As for the Blues... well we scored two great goals and Arteta looked like the player of old. All this with a threadbare squad a few of whom are still on child benefit. I'd say we have some reason for optimism especially as the lother lot only managed to win at Sunderalnd by a late goal. Despair not; the season's only just started and we can only get better. Or am I just clutching at straws?
