According to the BBC website, Joaquin is still available.
So why are we not on the first flight out to sign him?

Would guess the answer to that is the same answer to why we ain’t signed anyone so far...............
However I doubt any of us know what that answer actually is - probably somewhere between no money and dithering board/manager
I for one would love to have Joaquin with us but like all the other rumours I can’t see it happening
The article you linked to also mentions Zigic is available on a season-long loan. Should we not be after him as well? God knows, we need the players.
Good shout - and Stephen Appiah is a free agent from Fenerbache.
These types of signings could be the solution - no massive cash outlay up front. The problem is high wages which could well upset the wage structure and the rest of the players.
So what should we do in terms of strategy? have a manageable monthly outlay with very good players and greatteam spirit - or world class players on world class wages risking player unrest and jealousy.
My guess somewhere in between as Moyes’ approach has always been team spirit first.
The answer is simple.
Put them on the same basic structure as the other players but give them a high bonus for results and appearances.
I stll worry that the problems are more severe than we thought with one poster suggesting that we have had to borrow to pay wages.
The reason why we aren't out there securig his services is because I doubt we have the money. Also if we were to be in negotiations it would be for the 2009-10 season not the current one.
We who were there sat back on Saturday more in trebidation rather than expectation. As a blue of countless years I cannot remember a summer as bad as this. Loan signings?????? Bossmans???????? B S..t
More chance of a lottery win on Saturday week ,,,,,,,,, Empty seat in Upper Gwladys Street ... O 37 as I taking my boots .... enough kiids............ need some old heads........ i’m 49 ....... ButI know I could do a better job than that pr...k Neville.
Blue Bill . in the song by Status Quo ..... Roill Over Lay Down. And by Queen..........Liar Liar. HAD ENOUGH BULL (He’s gone BW) .............WE DESERVE BETTER
Joaquin - flatters to decieve, not rated in Spain any more and comes with a £10million price tag. Not keen personally. His attitude is notoriously poor too.
Zigic - know bugger all about him but he was good in FM! Depending on wages, might be worth a punt although Valencia turned a loan bid down from Stoke so why would they accept one from us?
Appiah - crocked. There’s a reason no major teams have taken him on. Does Rathbone not have enough work already?!
I know everyone is desperate for players but whether we have 1/10/20/30 million to spend, we cant flash it down the pan. We’ll be worse off in a year or two if we spunk our money on dross that doesn’t perform. Let’s stop panicking and trust in Moyes. I’d rather we have a terrible August and a good remaining 8 months than panic buy now...
Let's face it, loan players are one?s that the club they are at don't really want them... it gets them off the salary bill. Most have either disappointed or been long term injury?s; none are 100% reliable and ALL are stop gap deals and do not represent ambition. It's the last chance saloon... we should have been trying to do it with VDM. We need to buy a couple just to excite the fans.
Well, money aside, I’m sure Moyes would want to know whether he can play at right back or the centre of defence. World class winger he may be, but if he’s not versatile - hah!
Trevor
You are right - loans are generally stop gap. However look at our success with loan deals in recent years: Yobo, Pienaar, Arteta, howard.
Just because another club doesnt’ want them doesn’t mean they can’t play. Zigic can play & we certainly know Appiah can play.

If we don?t have the money how come we bid £13 million for Moutinho??? And why has Moyes publicly stated there is money available? And surely the AJ money will added to the transfer pot? The away tickets for Stoke go on sale to season ticket holders on September 1st, so I?ll wait to see if we sign anyone first before getting mine.
I suspect we offered much less than Sporting wanted for Moutinho because it makes Kenwright and Moyes look like they are doing something, it was the same with the kings dock money the phantom bid for Alan Smith (before he joined MU) and FSF, it is all smoke and mirrors, I for one have stopped looking for new on Everton signing new players, because I think deep down we all know it isn’t going to happen. Moyes needs to sign now or go, its that simple, I applaud all he has done for the club and I really want him to continue, but if there are problems behind the scenes, he needs to come out and say so now, Everton fans are neither stupid or willing to wait any longer for the current "crisis" to end. For fucks sake tell us what is going on.
I cannot express how disappointed I am with Everton this last 3 months. Their lack of forward planning in terms of the squad borders on criminal negligence in my book!!! Right now we appear to be chasing a player who not only has had a couple of rubbish seasons, but has stated he doesn?t even want to come too England??!! If (more likely when) we have a poor season this is going to put us back a minimum of two seasons, and if players like Arteta, Lescott etc decide why should I be bothered to stay at a club that can?t be bothered then we will be in even bigger trouble.
The club?s extravagantly prolonged overtures to the reportedly anglophobic Tiago Mendes are in strange contrast to the cursory treatment meted out to the disaffected Andrew Johnson. Andy?s only crime was to despair of ever seeing the arrival of midfield players good enough to allow his manager to play a 4-4-2 formation on a regular basis.Nothing has changed since his departure to Fulham. The Portuguese is a player with a superficially impressive CV, but It must be doubted whether he would improve the club?s situation one iota. One of the conditions of his contract might need to be regular attendance at a Merseyside clinic for sessions of counselling and psychotherapy aimed at helping him overcome his reported horror of England and English football,
Scene : a consulting room in Rodney St Psychologist to patient :"OK Mr Tiago, we?re coming towards the end of this first session. Let?s summarise the key facts, shall we? You are a professional footballer. You play for Everton. You have a deep-rooted fear and loathing of heavy tackles, wet weather, lunchtime kick-offs, noisy crowds and people who speak English." "And the colour blue, senor." "And the colour blue. Mr Tiago, I think that we?re going to be seeing quite a lot of each other."
Think we all have to accept that we will not be making any major signings this season, probably due to the current econmic climate clubs want a bigger up front payment for the player they are selling and we cannot afford to do this Bill likes to pay for his transfers like most people make catalogue payments. Also the club's marketing department is frantically thumbing through the Yellow Pages phoning local business companies to see if they would like to buy advertising space around the ground, how we managed to get into this financial mess is anybody's guess so let's hope we get the answers needed at the EGM we have suddenly become the premier leagues laughing stock.
It went quiet on him after an initial burst before Euro´s. Sweden played France tonight with Kim being voted M o M.
He produced a display of power, vision, strength and scored with an Alan Ball(tight in the corner with pace) penalty. He also posseses a Rioch left foot which means I (like many in this country) do not understand why he has not been poached by a BIGGER club.
I really hope that DM has not forgotten about him as I am of the opinion that he his about to hit the form of his life.
Oh yes, he is tough in the tackle too. Makes our MF look rather powderpuff.
Can any one tell me is this new info or old info?
Just spotted this on Newsnow....................
Juventus midfielder Tiago has rejected the chance to join Everton on loan, according to reports in Italy.
The Portugal international is said to be a little wary of returning to England after an unimpressive stint at Chelsea with Atletico Madrid believed to be his favoured destination.
Both Everton and Newcastle United have been alerted to his availability and it is understood that a deal was agreed and left up to the player to decide on a switch to Merseyside.
The Corriere dello Sport quotes Tiago as saying: "I will not go to Everton", which would complicate the transfer plans of both clubs as Juve are keen to offload him to help facilitate their own business.
Atletico?s bid to sign the player has stalled so everything appears on hold unless there is a breakthrough in any negotiations.
Toffees boss David Moyes has been looking for a replacement for Lee Carsley all summer while Newcastle are also in the market for quality reinforcements.
Is that old info or new???????
According to Sky Sports transfer clockwatch, Tiago is not willing to negotiate a transfer to Everton.
