Watch: This Space

Was Bill Kenwright promoting a new show when him informed us all to 'Watch This Space" a couple of weeks back? I heard 'This Space' was going to be a high drama production, but ends up a complete comedy and farce, with a depressive ending.

I feel cheated that the club chased us for the season tickets before it even finished last season. But I thought they need the money to buy players early. But that has not happened what was the point in that.
Right now I'd love to hear some of the kind of wishful crap we were hearing in the summer along the lines of 'mark my words, by Thursday Moutinho will be an Everton player'. Seriously, I'd rather be delusional than this miserable, so if anyone would like to oblige I'm all ears.
I'll start things off with a dream I had last night about us signing Robinho who told a friend of his who just happened to be a stepbrother of my bosses wifes friends cleaners dog-walkers mistress's ex-husbands golf partner that he is sick of the so-called 'massive' clubs and wants to challenge the established order of things. Due to his habit of calling Calderon "hairy arse" and double-dipping his spoon in the communal desserts at the Bernabeu we're in line for a knock-down price of £17m. You heard it here first.
Firstly let me say this is not fantasy football, but based on real deals with real players that are realistic squad fillers for us while we wait for our returning players and our 'big' signings [ha!].
Boateng and Malbranque would have cost £3.5m between them and added strength and a little flair to our midfield, together with back up when we bring in our big money signings.
Add to these the loan signings of Cisse, Gera and Warner [keeper from Fulham] and we have cover and squad depth - until we bring in our big signings.
I know none of the above players are world beaters, but they all have premier league experience, and would be able to encourage our young prodigies, while allowing them to be introduced to premiership football in a more appropriate manner. They would also steady the ship until we bring our big signings in.
Now let's say - for argument's sake only, obviously - we don't manage to bring in any big signings [it's not because we haven't got the money, we've just been unlucky], these five players could surely do a decent job for us until January........... when the big signings come in.
Adam.
Warner is a terrible keeper. He couldn’t cut it across the park. Jesus mate !
I would rather wheel big Nev out again than have him between the sticks.
Adam you’re spot on. Every player we brought in this summer didn’t have to be a world beater. Due to the number of players we’ve let go this calendar year (and our apparent poverty) we also needed a few cheap squad players as cover. Malbranqe and Boateng to me would’ve been ideal for this, not to improve the team, but to bolster the squad. Same with Cisse on loan, he could’ve provided much needed cover for the Yak.
Then Moyes could persue his primary targets with less pressure on his shoulders and we wouldn’t of had to have played Jags and Rodwell together in centre mid last Saturday!
It’s not rocket science really is it?
Adam, said something similar myself a few days days and one or two took the piss. Totally agree with you. Especially about Marlbranque and Boetang. Maybe we had our sights set higher. More fool us it would seem.
Adam i agree with you but what would we have been saying if these players were signed back in July (Not good enough if we were trying to break the sky 4 etc.) but at the moment i would take anyone as it looks like neville and gosling are both doubts for the weekend!!
When was the last time we bought a player in january?
Quote Moyes ’clubs ask for too much money in January@
What I find is so galling with Mr Kenwright, is that he still has the cheek to front the cameras, with his cheeky little puns and catchphrases, "watch this space" has now become the joke of the summer.
When will people realise that he is treating the paying fans, people who have shelled out their hard earned money again, with nothing but utter discontempt with his lies, lies and more lies.
The one he span about how meticulous Mr Moyes is in the transfer market, and will not settle for anything other than quality was particularly irksome! Cue an alledged bid for Alan Smith and Jimmy Bullard!! lol
Now Zigic and wait for it.........Gravesen apparently enter the frame, another one he carefully did his homework on obviously!
I think the time has come for Evertonians to show their dissaproval in the only way that will get noticed, with their feet!
I doubt it will happen though. Whilst good at ranting on the Internet, Everton fans use the "we’re not Liverpool" excuse, as a way of getting out of actually doing anything about it.
Me? I got rid of my season ticket 2 years ago, and will never take one out again whilst these jesters are running the club.
Last time we signed a player in January: James Beattie from Southampton.
Well just because some of us may think Malbranqe and co would be good at Everton, doesn’t mean Moyes does does it? He chooses the players he likes.
However more to the point is this. Moyes has already explained why he has to get some of the "world beaters" in 1st. It’s to do with the fact that he doesn’t have unlimited money.
Now it doesn’t make the fact that we are so short now any easier to deal with, but at least there’s a reason. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself on the line like that rather than just cave in and, as many on here suggest, just buy inferior players.
For example. Malbranque may have been a potential target for Moyes, He could have been his 4th choice Midfielder, but in buying him 1st he’s risking his chances of getting his 1st AND 2nd choices, or !st & 3rd.
I get people being dissapointed and wanting us to sign someone, anyone, but we all know why Moyes hasn’t just bought cheaper players 1st. He’s explained it, so I don’t see why we are still complaining about it? What he said makes sense, we don’t like it, he doesn’t like it, but it does make sense.
In June we were smiling at the prospect of signing Dudu. The same prospect exists now and we ain’t smiling anymore!
I believe we do have money, but we should all know by now the way moyes works. He has his preferred players, goes after them and if he can’t get them he prefers not to buy. And he’s fucking right. he does this year after year, and always gets more out of his players than the rest. I admire him for this, it shows he believes in himself....and in the players he has.
And why the fuck is everyone panicking after one game...one loss...a goal in the last min. Spurs spent millions and got turned over by boro. Manure couldn’t beat the bar-codes...at home. Come on guys let get some perspective here.
it’s the same every year, and yet we always leave the others behind us at the end of the season....and that’s the time to judge moyes and the team, not after one match. We may not like the sound of it, but the best we can hope for at present, is to be the best of the rest (outside the rich 4)
and that’s what we do most years. So have more faith in Moyes and the way he works...he hasn’t let us down very often so why should he start now?
let’s have a look at things after 8 or 10 games.
Eddie
that was relatively true in previous seasons but even Moyes is not happy at the moment.
When we cant even name 11 seasoned professional in a squad of 18 that is the time to worry.
Jason Broome
Funny :)
eddie o neill
Well said there. Moyes gets best value for money, and one defeat is not the end of the world.
Adam Baing.
Kop on would you the players you mention are has beens who eat away clubs salaries.
Its not just about filling gaps. If we brought mercenaries in to fill gaps it could worsen the atmosphere at the club.
The best route is young talented players from the lower leagues and maybe one big signing.
Which i think moyes is trying to do. Unfortunately most championship clubs are setting unrealistic prices for their best talent.
As for big players not many teams have bought talent more like stop gaps.
Keane at sunderland hasn’t a clue what hes doing. He has just filed a team of wasters with mercs and has beens. Yes they will survive the drop but be less off financally.
Ok i admit Everton have been pathetic this summer Moyes has tried to be shrewd and it has backfired. But at no point should we get desperate to bring in the likes of boateng etc...
You have to ask yourself why players like him were available or free???
Thom Coleman, is this what it’s come to? Boasting about the fact you gave up your season ticket two years ago whilst slating those of us who still enjoy going to watch our team?
You seem to be trying to make out that you are some sort of legend for ’taking a stand’, whilst those who have kept their season tickets are mindless sheep.
Obviously nobody is happy with the way the summer has gone, but I for one won’t be ’showing my disapproval with my feet’.
All our ’targets’ have been unrealistic, and that I reckon is the main reason we havent signed anyone. Moutinho, Tiago, Milito, Love, you name em we’ve failed to sign em. None of these players would contemplate coming to a club like Everton - we’re not high profile enough, we dont have a pot to piss in, our European pedigree is non existent and we have continuing unrest in the boardoom. If I was a player with choices I wouldnt come to Everton either.
Its a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless by the looks of it.
Gosling & Neville both out tomorrow too so looks like David Moyes might have to dig out his boots at this rate.
James i think you are wrong with the players you state there. I think its well known that Moutinho was more than willing to join us, in by doing so has risked the wrath of his own fans. While Love was clearly a mistake i don’t think you can count Milito above our ambitions.
I believe that Moyes has done what we would all have hoped he wold, and looked at targeting players that would drastically improve the first team, however its not him that makes the bids and its not him that sells the players, that, behind a considerable amount of others, is the boards fault.
Eddie - as we’ve seen from the Tiago story it is now fairly academic whether we have some money to afford one or two players.
The whole world (and his agent) now knows we need a lot more than that to get anywhere and that we are desperate. Not the best negotiating stance possibly with one week to go.
Only this lot could have somehow turned the higher profile gained from european qualification into a means to spread bad PR further....
Whilst you can argue that we’ve been after players that we can’t afford, you can’t say they wouldn’t come to Everton, when we all know that Moutinho does want to come to Everton, and if we’d had a spare £19.7m he’d be in our squad for tomorrow’s match.
Eddie, you ask..
"And why the fuck is everyone panicking after one game...one loss...a goal in the last min"
Eh?
Is this your first time here?
There has been panic amongst thousands of Evertonians for a solid month..AT LEAST!
You also say...
"I believe we do have money..."
As this sentence doesn’t continue with the word ’because’, followed by something factual, it’s like saying ’I believe in fairies’.
Michael Dawson, it’s called choice! I choose not to participate any more. I will again hopefully, but not until Everton are run as a professionally run football club, and not a toy for some lying fans ego!
And whilst you claim I call others "mindless sheep" read it again and you find that I don’t.
I point out that Everton have a lot of internet protesters, but nothing more than that.
Do you think Liverpool or Man U fans would sit down and take the way Everton are being run if it was their clubs? The answer is a big fat NO!
Dave Lynch - re your comment about Warner...
You might be onto something there - Nev I believe has filled out a bit since he retired - he could probably fill the entire goal - no one would be able to get past him.
Just about resigned myself to the fact that we won’t by signing anyone before the end of this transfer window. Whatever hope I still held out was dispelled by Moyes’ interview shown on sky sports news earlier. He looks like a beaten man to me! When no-one arrives and our disgracefully thin squad starts slipping down the table I can’t believe the club can just hide behind a wall of silence without anyone paying the price. That person can only really be Moyes as Kenwright won’t take the fall will he? There is so much in all this mess that makes me angry. Why are we still talking about agents messing us about, and how the process of signing players is so much harder now than it was? For gods sake, everyone else in the Prem manages to still sign players! Even bloody West Brom, who must surely be a far less attractive proposition than the team that finished 5th in the supposed best league in the world last year. Moyes complains that we didn’t get our funds in place early enough, Kenwright says they’ve been there all summer! Can no-one at this football club tell the truth! I’ve always been a Moyes fan, and I would still far rather see him stay than go, but as people have already said, either he’s telling the truth when he says the lack of transfer activity is down to him or it’s not his fault at all and he’s just lying to us to protect the incompetent Kenwright and his mates. Either way, he’s gone down a long way in my estimation over all this. As far Kenwright, I always had a low opinion of him anyway!
Some say we shouldn?t sign the likes of Marlbranque etc, some say we should. Some say Moutinho etc are too big for us and hence unrealistic, some say they are not. I don?t think anyone would argue that we need a mixture of both types of player. No matter what your opinion the fact remains that we have been unsuccessful/incompetent/unlucky, whatever, in going after either type of player.
Today is August the 22nd and the team have; no new players, have been beaten at home by Blackburn, which some people say ?is just one result? and face an away day at the Hawthornes with a depleted squad.
Come the end of last season would any of you have contemplated or been willing to accept any of this? I wouldn?t and just because things have taken a nose dive I?m not going to say it?s ok now.
I think blue bill bull shitter was ment to say ’LOOK WHOS IN SPACE’ and its himself hes got his head in the clouds the soft space cadet ........
I’m finding this staying positive lark harder by the day. It’s just a bad dream and I want to wake up from it as soon as possible. No one can ever doubt BK wants the best for Everton but it’s been clear for ages that he cannot deliver and I’m sure it hurts him as much as us. However how can he not see that coming up with bullshit soundbites just makes him look a total arse? All the "24/7", "working hourly towards signings" and "watch this space" is backed up by what? Fuck all! It’s been mentioned in the other posts about Tiago that he offered to pick up all his wages and spent a few days on the deal only for it to come to nothing. Well surely it might have been easier to ask the player straight away? It hurts to say it but I can’t see us signing anyone. I hope to God I’m proved wrong. I honestly don’t see relegation coming into it providing we have a lucky year for injurys but I don’t see this seasons highlights DVD being a big seller. I’m off to get DM a lucky dip for tomorrow nights draw, you never know, it could be us so watch this space...........oh bollocks, it’s rubbing off now!
Right now?? I’d settle for Alan Smith. DAmn!
We should just give Sporting what they want for Moutinho even if he is the only player we buy it's better then nothing. He would win us games because he is world class and capable of 20 plus goals a season. If we don't get him now someone else will step in next transfer period and get our man. He is one of the best midfielders in world and will turn out to be as good as Ronaldo he is worth every penny. So please just cough up the moolah and sign this man.
