A waste of time

Surprise surprise! Tiago doesn't want to come to Everton. He turned down Spurs in January who are arguably a more attractive proposition (well known Spanish manager and being situated in London), but Everton persisted in waving ever larger bunches of fivers in his general direction in an effort to secure his services on loan for the season.

I'm sorry, but if you have to bribe a player above the going rate to play for you, then what motivation is he going to show on the training ground and pitch of play? The minute he started playing hardball in negotiations (in fact after Spurs, I personally wouldn't have bothered), Everton should have left well alone. Yes we need numbers, but I'd rather have a journeyman player who wanted to play for us, rather than an international superstar who was only there for the cash.

When will Kenwright, Moyes and co ever learn? Well, they haven't so far and after six years of protracted and painfully slow transfer negotiations, they probably never will. Bill, & Davey, if you're listening: take a look up on Wearside and see what can be done. Then again, maybe you'll carry on contemplating your navels instead. Will we have any transfer news on the Official Site to look forward to, or is the best you'll manage by September 1st a Tim Howard sudoku puzzle?

Am I missing something here, re Tiago? The player states he does not want to join Everton. In that case logic dictates that before negotiations with Juve commenced, they should have gone to the player and said Everton are going to bid for you & do you want to join them if the right salary is on offer. If the player says no, then we all know where we stand and we don't waste any more time. Not the Everton way..what we do is we spend ages negotiating with Juve and probably fly an advisor out to Italy and then once those negotiations are complete we talk to the player and realise he never had any intention of joining us! Its complete madness and what is even worst is we look like a complete joke with headlines such as 'Tiago the flop snubs Everton". Its like me asking to marry Dawn French on the front page of the Mirror and getting turned down.

We’ve made a rod for our own backs this summer by turning ourselves from a potentially very attractive proposition to players of good calibre, to a club that no-one in their right mind would now contemplate joining, with repeated descriptions - brought on by those that run the club - of a club that is in crisis.

The way the management (from top to bottom) has run our great club this summer is an absolute scandal.

I agree. A complete waste of time and effort trying to sign a player who clearly stated he didnt want to come to England last January. Why on earth would he want to come to Everton in the current state of affairs? No doubt tthey have wasted all their resources trying to secure this one transfer now they quickly have to move on to the next on the increasingly long list of players who wont be coming!

It seems to me that Tiago and his agent strung us along in this to try and flush out interest from any spanish side. It serves them right that it failed. Let him rot in Juve’s reserves!

At the end of las season, Bill Kenwright talked about signing players by the Everton way. Meaning you would not hear of any signings in the paper until you seen them on TV at Goodison Park with a scarf over their head with the contract signed. A few weeks later Bill is being interviewed on Sky infoming anyone who will listen that it’s true that Moutinho is a player Everton are interested in buying. This player has a get out clause of 20m, Everton offer 11m. Surprise surprise the offer is turned down.

Everton have between £10 - 15m to buy 5 to 7 players, basically Bill cannot borrow any more money as he has asked all his friends and we have already spent this years Sky money last year.
Just waiting for Noel Edmonds to walk on the pitch at Goodison Park next home game with a GOTCHA for 40 thousand Everton fans and behind him are ...Robino, Mbia, Moutinho, Well we can at least dream. Anyone got Brett Angels address..

Alot changes in six months.

Tiago wanted to stay a Juve in Jan because he reckoned he could break into a more consistant role at the club. He didn’t and now Juve want shot of him. The fact Juve are listening to offers means it was defo worth a shot going for him.

Tiago is just a fool who thinks bigger than himself to what he really is.

Like somone already said let him rot at juve.

I doubt they spent all of their tiume looking into the deal. I’m sure they have alternates or someone else in mind.

Bear in mind also the press explode stories rather than tell them to the extent they are.

It has been a shambles but no one at Everton are to blame in this case.

Well I’d love to know who exactly IS to blame Steve - every other team in the Premiership has managed to sign a few players yet we’ve failed with every one of our so called ’targets’.

What pisses me off is that we appear to keep going for unrealistic choices in players - theres no way Moutinho was ever going to join Everton, its just farcical.

I seriously doubt we’ll sign a single player before the deadline.

It’s just not normal is it this?

The bloke isn’t wanted at his own club, has no other options on the table and he STILL rejects us!!

I wonder whether Bill etc are starting to realise that the signals they have been sending out now?

They choose to be silent when they should speak - for example the james vaughn situation (WTF?) - and when they do speak its contrary to most people’s view of ’right thinking’ and projects anything but a club on the up - for example phil neville and his new 4 year contract. (WTF again?)

I think Steve Gaskell’s right. The only thing that would possibly make some sense would be for it to be one big joke. Something we are in danger of becoming ourselves at this rate...

James Marshall,

I said in this case they aren’t to blame in every other case the manager and chairman have to take the rap.

I also think you have hit it in the head when you say:

" we appear to keep going for unrealistic choices in players - theres no way Moutinho was ever going to join Everton",

Thats the real problem. But at the same time i stand by what i said alot of the players signed by some teams are mercs or bandits or just not good enough for Everton.

Richard: Gosling is not out is he??
I was thinking he could slot in at RB, but if hes out my starting 11 would be:

Howard;
Jags (RB), Yobo, Lescott, Valente;
Osman, Arteta, Rodwell, Baines;
Baxter;
Yakubu.

That side would make for a great game as WBA play the right way and I think the class of Baxter and Yak would bag us the goals to win a high scoring feast of football! (I hope I’m not an optimistic delusional!)

Michael - this is from the OS:

’Captain Phil Neville is a doubt for Everton’s trip to West Brom.

The skipper has an ankle problem to add to David Moyes’ injury headache.

Neville’s injury could further deplete the Blues’ options in midfield - with youngster Dan Gosling also battling a thigh problem’

Mike Hunt,

That team would get absolutely dicked by the majority of teams in the Premiership. As a manager I would be embarrassed to select that Midfield (obivously with the exception of Arteta who is ace and Osman who has his moments). I’d Fuck Valente right off, drop Baines back into left back and add Hibbert to a 5 - 3 - 2. That means getting over any personal pettyness with Vaughn and letting him back in the team over Baxter.

Understand I don’t really want Hibbert in the team but we’re out of options here.

Moyes was recently quoted as saying Vaughan is recovering from injury (caused in training I think) and is weeks away from being match fit. I’m aware there is a rumour that Moyes was so pissed off at his red card offence in America that he has been ’frozen out’ for a bit, but personally I think that is bollocks (especially given the squad’s threadbare state).

Why are people blaming Tiago? He didn?t settle in England first time round (and no matter what anyone says, he was most definitely not a flop here) so he doesn?t want to come again. Probably should have mentioned it a few days ago, though. Wasted valuable negotiation time for Moyes.

Personally, come 1st September, if no-one?s been signed, I?d expect Moyes to blow his budget on Moutinho, as there won?t be any money for ?5 or 6 players? then.

A few things to my fellow blues. First of al its a small point to start off with but what OFFICIAL club site should actively have a section dedicated to tabloid nonsense?? I feel its a complete joke for the official everton site to have rumours from the sun etc on it, secondly why are we seemingly the only club who gets linked with every player and all our transfer dealings get spilled and are all over the press??. The Moutinho deal is a perfect example about 4 weeks ago when we saw we’d bit for him it was on the official site, we all well i was optimistic that we were close but no, still nothing, wasting weeks negotiating for Tiago surely you must be know if a player wants to join you beforehand. Something doesn’t seem right with Moyes either, how can bright young prospects be tempted to sign for us when the young manager himself hasn’t commited himself?? Surely him signing would be a huge plus for players potentially wanting to sign. Lastly new kit looks good, but surely its just copying Chelseas one from last yr...typical umbro.

Driving home tonight the local news has Moyes spouting off to the supporters its going to be a difficult season if we dont sign anyone. What the hell has that to do with us! He should be saying this to BB and the rest of the board. If the reason no one has signed are down to Moyes, then he should step down now and let someone with a bit of pulling power step in.

It seems my post of 3/4 weeks ago may prove to be correct. There is no money for those that need to borrow (and pay back with colossal interest) and that includes us, pompey,city, RS and everyone that lives in the real world. This means the likes of Abramovich could decide to bail out and I for one wait for that moment.

Moyes and Kenwright have been shown to be completely naive in trying to deal in the so called "higher end of the market" .

Our offers have been ridiculous , our terms and conditions (30% now rest later) are non-starters and finally our proces used in transfer completely obsolete (Mgr to Mgr or Chairman to Chairman), we didn’t know about the role of the major golbal agents.

On top of all that as Moyes has said today - you need "BIG MONEY" and our £15m doesnt go far.
In the meantime Villa have been taking our traditional £3-5m UK players and Mr Oneill has left Moyes standing.

Generally agree with what you say Mike but i think on this one we did as much we could have done without realising that the REAL damage had been done by the club’s owners to their own club’s image before they opened negotiations!!

So for once we were probably unlucky here but it just goes to show...

I don’t know what causes me the greatest worry the fact that he didn’t sign or the fact that we where looking to sign the guy in the first place. Apparently he’s second choice to Sissoko yet another premiership flop. If he’s no better than him what on earth are we looking to sign him for. Other than the fact that its a loan deal I can’t think of any other reason and if so then we really are dredging the bottom of the barrel. Personally I’m pleased he hasn’t signed. His career is clearly on the wane and the last thing we need now is another passenger. What a total bloody shambles we’re even having to consider buying such a second rate player.

you can’t mock Moyes and BK for trying to sign Tiago, he’s available on loan and that would have suited us, he’s a decent player, so they had to try. If we didnt go for him, then the majority of Evertonians would have been thinking why didnt we try. Well what little activity in the transfer market we have spent is : not offering enough money for players who say they want to come, and offering enough money to clubs for players who say thet have no intension of playing for us. What we need in a chairman is a cross between Donald Trump & Aristotle Onassis, what we have is a cross between Arther Daley & Delboy Trotter!
