Today's Game

Comments (148)

Well, here we are again, panicking!

First eleven - No shape
Bench - Full of untried kids
Manager - Visible fed up
Supporters - Clearly worried
Opponents - Buzzing

The potential of a win today is not very apparent. Just one injury can destroy any confidence we do have as we are down to bare bones as it is. I pray the youngsters play with the 'No Fear' mentality that we have seen so much of in recent years from young players (Rooney, Vaughan, Anichebe etc).

We need the senior international pros to stand up and be counted and concentration will be the key. Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka, Osman, Arteta, Baines, Valente, Yakubu, it's your job today to get this win, carry the youngsters through this game, don't let them carry you!

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!!!

ANSWERS

We are playing 2 children in the first eleven.

We are missing the experience and graft of Lee Carsley, instead we have an untried kid.

We are missing the link up play and goals of Carsley.

We are playing a 2 central defenders in central midfield.

Our 2 central defenders are not used to playing together.

I wouldn’t say stronger and stronger, but they carry a threat. We really do lack any cohesion in midfield. That steadying influence that Carsely used to give us is missing. Rodwell dives in rashly at times. The positive is that it is experience for him. Arguably not the ideal time for him to be thrown in though...

Anthony Jaras, clueless people who just can’t accept him. I’m the first to admit his consistency on the wings wasn’t good but last season when he moved centrally he did really well, very consistent and gave us another dimension.

His strengths by far outweight his weaknesses, yes he lacks pace and strength but he’s technically gifted, he works his socks off and he gets goals from midfield. Excellent player to have in the squad whether it’s as a squad player or as a starter.

On a brighter note, anyone seen Spurs recently?? It makes me laugh that they’re always favorites to break into the Top 4 and they’ve just lost 2 on the bounce!

Made up we won, although we were almost cheated out again like last week, with the disallowed goal and the peno! Nevermind hey, well done blues you shut up the pundits who couldn’t wait to celebrate a West Brom upset today! I’m just pissed off that the shite scraped a winner 4 minutes into injury time, I suppose something had to put a smile on the Sky Sports news’ pundits faces! What a bunch of shite boro are, winning with 5 minutes to go and they hand Liverpool the win to go top! I can’t wait till they come up against someone good and we’ll see how good they really are! Moyes needs to sign midfielders desperately now, because we struggle to keep the ball in the middle of midfield with Jagielka and Rodwell and against a better team they would not be good enough playing together as we need someone more creative and attack minded in the mix. Great to get Vaughan back and lets hope he can stay fit now and get a run in the team! COYB

They’re all the same, the BBC and Sky Sports love Liverpool. Why do you think they’re on telly the most and get shown on the Premiership Years the most even though they’ve never won the Premier League? Has anyone seen the Premiership years the season when we finished 4th? It still somehow manages to show Liverpool about ten times more than Everton even though we finished above them and it doesn’t even show the game we won to clinch 4th spot, if it would have been Liverpool they would have made a big parade out of it! Disgraceful biased pricks! Jeff Steling was made up too today shouting about Gerrard as Captain Marvel! The only thing missing is their red and white scarves and joining in with the songs! I can’t wait to watch Gillette Soccer Saturday the next time the shite get beat just to see their faces! That Barnsley game last year was an absolute classic, they were all gutted! Sorry for the rant, but I just hate the Red shites! They think they’re great, but can only just about sneak 1 goal wins against shite teams and get a jammy draw against sum Belgian no-marks.

BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED LIKE I PRAYED;

I pray the youngsters play with the ’No Fear’ mentality that we have seen so much of in recent years from young players (Rooney, Vaughan, Anichebe etc).

We need the senior international pros to stand up and be counted and concentration will be the key. Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka, Osman, Arteta, Baines, Valente, Yakubu, it’s your job today to get this win, carry the youngsters through this game, don’t let them carry you!

Lets look at it like this. We didnt deserve to lose against Blackburn ( first half was shit though) and we lost.

We didnt deserve to win at WBA and we won.

Evens itself out as they say

The odd paradox of living outside the UK is that I get too see nearly all our games on the box. Today i turned up at the pub with real dread in my heart and basically begging for a draw
As it happens WBA were really crap . A decent team would have really buggered us in the first half. We were awful and remained awful until Vaughn came on .
But i really admire our guts. Make no mistake about it - the spirit is there and that will keep us out of real trouble
What really worried me was the look on Moyse’s face at the end of the game . He looked as if he was at a morgue instead of celebrating a victory. my guts tell me that he has had enough of the shenanigans at EFC and if he gets an offer from another club later on in the season he will be off. Cant say I blame him really

On Leon Osman:

Every genuinely knowledgeable football fan I know raves about Osman. All the Evertonians who really know their stuff pick out the lad as one of our best players for many a year.

Someone pointed out above that he has, arguably, the best touch at the club. I couldn’t agree more. His first touch - and his ability to control the ball irrespective of the carnage going on around him - is spectacular. I know Joe Cole is overrated and not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I heard him say lasrt season that Osman is his favourite player in the Premiership, because he has such quick feet.

You’ll hear the Tony Marshes of this world say Osman can’t cut it in the Premiership. Well Marsh is an example of the kind of football fan that makes you cringe with his lack of real awareness about the game. He talks the talk, but he really has no clue - you all know the sort.

Osman is an outstanding footballer and deserving of a testimonial when his time comes.

Doddy, can’t be arsed trying to track one of the numerous threads so remind me which one to look for to save me digging.

Brian, I partially agree that Osman can offer to the team but wasn’t that his 23 or so goal today, not exactly a prolific goal scorer and I think he blows hot and cold, some games where he can find space then yes he does dance through but more often than not he comes across big bruisers that simply barge him off the ball. The trick with a really good team is to have a mix of Osman’s abilities and some bruisers to meet each games’ specific requirements as they change game to game and in each game depending on the opposition’s substitutions. If we have no depth we can’t make any tactical changes and if Osman is having a bad game or being barged off the ball who do we have to offer up in exchange/substitution?

Oh and Doddy one swallow doesn’t make a summer and all that. If we had been playing a better side I stand by the expectation that we would have been several goals down by the end of the first half.

I’m pretty sure Cole and Osman are good mates from when they played together as kids (at Lilleshall or schoolboy level or something). I wouldn’t take Cole as an inpartial judge.

Gavin R: agree with all of that. It’s not really Osman’s fault though that we don’t have a dominating midfielder next to him that can also exchange passes with him.

Osman is exactly like Lee Carsley in my opinion - a player with a limited skill set that can be a cracking player for your team if you can play to his strengths. If he was Argentinian and played for a cr*p Spanish team, people would demand we paid £10m for him on the back of a few youtube videos.

Joe Cole said Leon Osman was technically the best player in his age group and one of the biggest talents around at the time. A lot of people where looking at him but he had some major injuries which set him back in his development.

They did play together as youths and I think they're mates today.

Ossie is a fine technical player, and can find space/pass in a packed midfield when he has the ball at feet. However he is simply too one-dimensional, in the same mould as Carsley in breaking attacks and covering the back 4, to play MIDFIELD. You couldn’t get Cars to do what Ossie can, and vice versa. On any other day, Gerrard and Essien one-on-one with Ossie, and the physios would have a busy day. The challenge for Moyes is to bring the best out of his players and hide their weakness. We do not have a Cars to do Ossie’s share in midfield, to protect the ball playing midfielders. If you look at Chelsea, Lampard, Mikel and Ballack at doing the dirty work and feeding Deco who has all the time in the world when he has the ball. Anyway, I wouldn’t be shouting Ossie’s praise just yet, WBA aren’t exactly top4 quality.
