The Mail Bag

Yet again...

News today suggests that this time it's Albert Riera who doesn't want to join us. Apparently he would prefer to move to Anfield. Why, I ask then have we not withdrawn our offer and moved on already? Again, we seem to think that a case can be made to a player, when in truth they don't want to come to Everton. I hear Moyes is looking to re-evaluate his transfer policy, but to ascertain in the first instance whether a player would, in principle, like to move to Goodison, would probably have saved us several weeks of fruitless negotiation and the constant shelling out for trips by "delegations" to try and convince players otherwise. Surely it's not that complicated.

I see there’s now a Shaun Wright Phillips rumour out there. Stranger yet saying we have SIGNED him.. Not just bidding for.

Perhaps this is the one kept under wraps? Not reported in media? One that’s kept majorly hush hush?

Or just Chelski supporters having a laugh !

Wouldn’t be too bad a signing I think. Since the bugger has scored on us before! ;)

Stuart Mitchell - Agreed!

From what I have seen I wasn’t impressed with Reira (and those was his highlights). £12 million for an average looking 26 year old seemed foolish and desperate.

Shaun Wright Phillips needs no introduction. The man is simply class and a step up from most of our midfield.

Only found the news here, on that Chelski supporter site and on Bluekipper.

Even news to them it seems.

My Chelsea mate says we should have him as he’s a top player but no place for him on his team.

Chelsea looking nowhere near their form of last week. Happy Deco scored but (Fantasy team) lol

Don?t you suppose for a minute that the Agents have anything to do with the fact that a player is "available..
"Hey Moysie, Bill, you interested in Riera - he?s desparate for the EPL?"".
........which loosely translated from Agent-speak means:
He really only wants to go to Anfield, but I?ll keep that quiet so that Everton come in to start upping the players value even more. (the barcodes and Rooney, remember?)

Lay off Moysie, having to deal with the merciless bastards of agents must be hell...

Well Scolari did say he was open to offers for Wright-Phillips the other week when Portsmouth was being linked to him, if genuine then it would be a great signing unlike Riera, nowhere near worth £12m, i’d rather spend that on Wright-Phillips!

SWP would be excellent, he’d give us some much needed pace out wide. He’s not amazing but he’s different and I think he’d improve us.

I’m expecting people to not like him because he’s small though, Toffeeweb doesn’t like small players.

Just seen an interview on sky sports news with Scolari after the wigan game and he got asked the question about rumours that Everton had signed Wright-Phillips and he did’nt deny it one bit he just kind of avoided the issue and said he wanted to concentrate on the game and that tomorrow when back in London he will do something and sort it out with regards to Wright-Phillips, in the interview Scolari never once denied that we’d bid for him and said it would be sorted in the next couple of days regarding wether we’d sign him or not but it did sound quite promising!

To me, it just sums up this club.

We have the dreams of being an ocean liner yet we are run by people who have rowing boat mentality.

I will follow this club as I love the Royal Blue shirt. I can find no other excuse for being so passionate.

Dave Charles,

I’m not going to attempt to defend the indefensible, because our transfer shenanigans have plumbed new depths this summer, but I have to take issue with your analogy.

If we don’t make an effort to sign players of the type we’re currently being linked with, then how will we ever get to be the "ocean liner" ? It’s inevitable that quality players will be in demand from top clubs and equally inevitable that quality players will want to join the top clubs (those in the Champions League).

Not really sure what you’re problem is, to be honest. We either try or we don’t. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

John Taylor. Where is the effort to sign new players?.

I am still watching ’This Space’ as Bill said. So are most of the Blues who heard him.

My problem is I love Everton Football Club. End of. I see the Royal Blue Shirt and feel proud. I don’t feel proud of the people running this club. The WBA result was great but is that enough as the season expands. This not is the first time we have not built on the success of the previous year. I feel the fans deserve more. In saying that ’Honesty’ might help.

He’s not saying no here:

"If the club sells one or two more players it’s not a problem for me," boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has been quoted as saying.

"I don’t know if some clubs want Shaun. In the last game he played 25-30 minutes and he has played for the second time in the first group of training.

"I don’t know what the player is thinking about with regards offers from other teams.

"If I have 24-25 players with me and three or four for (every) two positions then I’m happy. I have three or four players in this wing-right and wing-left position."

Just read the above article myself sounds as though this one may well have some substance. No doubt we’ll here more on this tomorrow by all accounts. Have to say if this one materialises it would be significant signing I’ve always admired SWP. Apart from his undoubted ability, the player has always demonstrated a great attitude to the game and is very much a ’Moyes’ type of player. His arrival would afford Moyes a variety of options.
I really do hope this move comes off. If he were to rediscover the form he produced at city he would be a tremendous addition.

Dave,

Come on mate, they’re clearly trying. They’re failing, admittedly, but they’re obviously trying.

Again, I won’t try to defend Kenwright, but when he made the "watch this space" comment, it was immediately before the story about Vagner Love broke and then (erm) broke down because an unscrupulous agent had told us he was available on loan when he actually wasn’t.

Several sources also claim that a deal for Moutinho has been close on a number of occasions only for Sporting to suddenly demand more cash, more up front etc.

I don’t doubt there has been plenty of effort made but, quite correctly, people want results and not empty promises.

SWP would do us no harm and possibly much good. (AvdM would also be a bonus, but that seems to be beyond the realms of belief). Given DM’s statement about changing his sights, its easy to see how this rumour is running. And three more ’local’ players to prop up the squad next week will be on the cards. But a new ’midfield enforcer’ looks to be impossible.

One suspicion is that Davey is caught in two minds (not quite the same as dithering, but difficult to distinguish from a distance). He could have a very young squad with the potential to be a great team, or could put the kids on the bench to watch decent PL pros do their average best. Hard call.

When I look at 8:15pm on Sunday there were at least 10 times (circa 3700) as many as any other story - and in how long? Either us Blues are desperate for any bit of transfer news or CFCUK is a desperate site!

Seriously everyone there was another part to the interview with Scolari after the Wigan game and they asked him about Wright-Phillips signing for us, it was sometime in between the Man City and West Ham game after they spoke to Scott Minto about an update and they said they had some info on Shaun Wright-Phillips?s future and it showed you an interview with Scolari and someone asks him straight up about the rumour. I've been watching the rest of the day to show my old man what he said but it hasn?t been on since! It definitely happened honestly, I didn?t imagine it!!

Howard

Yobo
Jags
Lescot
Piennar
Arteta
Cahill (or Osmon)
M’bia (and buy another DM as support)
SWP
Yak (and another top striker as competition)
Bench: Osmon (or Cahill), new DM, New keeper, Vaughan, Baines, New striker and new RB. Reserve; Avdm, Rodwell, Baxster, Hibbert, Valente, Gosling, Irving, Anichabe, and Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Would be more than happy to end this transfer window with this line up and be in a realistic postion to challege for the 4th place and the cup competitions! In Moyes in trust!!!!

DM has been tracking him for 18 months... God help us!!! No wonder we missed so many proper buys... the tracking system is in BETAMAX... It's the old story... BK will be delighted. The fans are excited over buying someone who cost NOWT, the transfer budget is still intact.... We have another bench warmer but at least he is older than the others and we?ve only took him for one year... He will defo? be released as the others were... By the way, Anthony Gardner looked really good for Hull City over the weekend...??
