Jacobsen: 1st signing!

Comments (66)

And he is a right back!?!?! Competition is a good think and Hibbert is out for a while, but I can only hope this is the first of a glut of signings, hopefully in midfield.

Or is this a cunning ploy by Moyes to free up the mercurial Phil Neville to patrol midfield where he will add his 'unique' mix of craft, guile and skill.

Help us...

Now this guy would be free which is always a plus but he's a RIGHT BACK. Now in my simple eyes that would suggest Moyes is clutching at straws.

I can imagine his thinking: "Well no central midfielders but another right back means Pip can fill in there till Jan'

By now I think most players are welcome but even so it worries me if my supposition is the correct thinking.

So then, we are on the verge of signing the currently unattached right full back, Lars Jacobsen.

Erm, doesn't that mean we will have three right backs???

It can mean only one thing - Phil Neville is the new Carsley.

Absofuckinlutely marvellous.

Moyes said last week that due to lack of time/money he may have to just get in some folks who are just warm bodies and not of the calibre he would have liked. Presumably that is where Jacobsen on a free fits in given that even with Hibbert out we still have more fit players who can play right back than any other position.

Never heard of this bloke before so did a quick trawl on Youtube, found this cracking goal but one thing jumped out at me instantly; the breaking news story says he will give competition for the right back slot but this goal is from the left hand side of the pitch admittedly with his right foot though. Please tell me this kid has two great feet and not that someone hasn't done their homework again.

To add to my previous coment.

Apparantly he has been watched by us for 18months (according to his agent) and so this acctually looks like a long term plan by Moyes rather than a rush signing.

Most of us were claiming a need to imporve this position last season anyway

I for one, if I was a player, would feel I guess a little shyte if I had been signed at this time.

As I’d now feel I’ve been stamped a "lesser" player from what I’m reading in the papers.

I hope no great players out there now shun any offers from Everton because of this.

I might just be making a mountain out of a mole hill as it were ofcourse.

If he’s a current Danish international it should mean that apart from being a defender he can control, hold and pass a ball. Hopefully to Arteta in space. Could be good.

But where would that put Neville? Oh well, the EFC medical might stop all that anyway. But at this moment any added strength to the squad is welcome. Who knows, he might be the new Cars.

I for one signalled out the problem at right-back that we have at this club. Hibbert is not good enough at the level that we are trying to reach. Neville is a decent defender but no good at attacking. What Neville does give us is versatility, he may not be brilliant at every position but is great stop gap when a injuries occurs.

Now this new guy (pending medical!!!), I don’t know much about but hopefully he is good at both defending and going forward. A Danish international on a FREE can’t be that bad an acquisition.

All I hope for now is a defensive midfielder, a wide player and a striker at a minimum will all sign before the deadline!!!!

There is a week left to bring in more addtitions STOP slagging everything and everyone to do with our club and support the cause that you are meant to follow or ’come out’ and admit that you are Red Shite in disguise

Gavin R, Everton knew Koldrup’s position! Jeez. As it happened, he didn’t adjust well to the country and his attitude in training suggested he was reluctant to embrace some of the club’s philosophies.

To suggest Moyes doesn’t know the best position of players he signs is ludicrous. After all, this is a player he has been watching for well over a year.

I think its a good new. Over the season I constantly had the pleasure of reading "we need a right back hibberts fxxking shxt!." This acquistion is a very positive one, and for free, which still puts us in a positive position to spend money on improving our midfield and attack. Worst case senario Neville will stand in for the short term providing a little breathing space. Come on DM sign SWP, M’bia, another CM, a top stricker and a goal keeper. nil satis nisi optimum!!

Moyes has wanted a right-back all summer.

His key areas where right-back, central midfield, the flanks and upfront as well as a backup goalie following the release of Stefan Wessels.

Hopefully the start of a bit of fruitful acitivity this week. Yes, Jacobsen isn’t the signing we had all hoped to hear about, but he’s an international available for free! You can’t grumble.

Don’t be surprised to see Stephan Appiah paired with Kuffour in the next move by Moyes, both available on a free transfer.

Hard to be impressed by this signing. Jacobsen has participated as a defender in two club’s relegations, and more recently he played only 7 games last season due to injuries. He made his full international debut for Denmark at age 26, well maybe he’s a late developer!

And more good news, he’s free and he can play for us on Sat’die, so long as he doesn’t get injured!

So, we might look like this, when everyone is fit:

Howard
Jacobsen, Yobo, Lescott, Baines
Arteta, Neville, Osman, Peinar
Cahill
Yakubu

One of the fortunate consequences of Hibbert being injured was the relief of being able to take Pip out of midfield. Now look what they’ve gone and done!

I dont get some of you lot on here, at the start of the summer people were coming on here and stating there wish list of new signings and in what positions and the majority of you said we need a new right back along with a couple of midfielders a winger and a striker! i think whats bothering most is that the 1st signing of the summer isnt a big name midfielder (Moutinho, SWP, M’Bia) and its an unknown right back but at the end of the day and at this time of the deadline its a start and hopefully more will follow suit. maybe in the next day or two Riera might sign aswell as we have met Espanyol’s asking pricefor him, dont get me wrong he ’d prefer to go to the shite but if they carnt meet there evaluation for him they might turn there back on him and go for Downing instead and pave the way for us to sign Riera?. hopefully we’ll get some news on M’Bia too because Rennes are supposed to be deciding wether or not to accept are bid for him!

Being from Denmark I?ve seen Lars Jacobsen in action quite a few times during his career when he played for Danish teams OB Odense and FC Copenhagen.
His preferred position is right back but can fill in at left back if needed - he can actually use both his feet to kick the ball. He loves going forward from his position and is also quite good at passing the ball.

He has international experience from the Danish National Team and from playing in both Champions League and the UEFA Cup with FC Copenhagen.
To me he is an exciting addition to our squad but whether he is good enough to play in the Premier League remains to be seen...

This signing will hopefully prove to be decent business, and doesn’t mean that we 1) Have no money or 2) Means Neville will be midfield. Even if Neville is our defensive mid tho, he can play well there when it is his position alone, it was when he was paired with Carsley that it was a problem. People accepted the fact that Cars was a limited player but not Neville, he was unfairly expected to be the creative outlet of the 2 players and was made the scapegoat! If anyone deserved any stick for that situation, it was Moyes!

Jeez, Moyes will deliver this week...So what he signed a RB first, if by friday we has bought in say 5 players, i have no doubt he will mould them into a very difficult team to beat. He is no miracle worker and can only work with what EFC can provide, and we all know from BKs comments it is not alot. Being a Danish Evertonian, I can tell you all that LJ won?t set the world alight, but he?s definitely a lot better footballer than Hibbert and Neville. He?s got excellent skills and is a good crosser of the ball and quite pacey. He used to take most corner kicks for FC Copenhagen. My only concern is his ability to adapt to the pace of the Premier League which might take some time. He?s for sure an upgrade on right-back, but may need some time before he is ready.

I think you are being a little unfair on Hibbert, we all know he is not the best going forward with his distribution or crossing ability but one thing you cant say he doesn?t give us security at right back. Hibbert is sound defensively IMO, if you look when Everton play one of the big four Moyes seems to prefer to go for Hibbert at right back. Remember his defensive performances last season at Chelsea away and Man City away.

There are rumours circulating on other Everton websites that the injury that nearly prevented Neville playing Saturday is serious enough to warrant an operation eventually. This maybe why we?ve had to get this lad in as a matter of urgency. In my opinion (on the evidence of last Saturday?s performance) if we are only able to recruit one more player, I hope more than anything he?s a defensive midfielder. Of course we need others but that must be the priority for Moyes this week.
