No longer who or what — just why?

Like most, I'm utterly depressed by the summer's events, or lack of them. This depression is being made all the worse by (with respect) the supplementary and constant daily drivel placed on this site concerning further transfer speculation...Riera, Love, SWP.

What are we? Masochists? Enough already. Michael and Lyndon, I respect that this is a fans' forum and you are in some ways merely expressing fans' opinions. However, ask yourselves — can we (the readership) take any more bullshit?

By publishing this nonsense, how do your actions differ from Lying Inc. — aka EFC PR?

Time for a moratorium — no more who might — solely, who has. As editors — filter out those mails that are now merely torturing the already tortured.

Use your positions to move the debate forward to exclusively examine why the position is what it is. That's what I want more than anything — the TRUTH. Now there's a signing I would welcome!

Am I the only Evertonian who now accepts the situation — but just wants the respect shown by the club as to the WHY?

Come forth Mr Dodd et al... pontificate away. I am all ears.

It sounds like the Official Site is what you're after, James. With the exception of their "What the Papers Say" page, it's Everton factual transfer news, either confirmation of the Club's interest in a player or the announcement that he's signed. Doesn't make for much depth of content, I'm afraid.

Our Rumour Mill has for years been in the top two most trafficked pages on this site outside of the homepage which speaks for itself — people want to read about potential signings, no matter how dubious the info. Granted, the hurricane of misinformation has been out of control this summer but our rumours page and the discussion among fans about potential targets is a reflection of our visitors' desires, as you say.

It's hard to know where to draw the line. There's a lot of stuff we hear and read that doesn't even make it into the Rumour Mill and then some stuff of which we're sceptical, like the "Wyness resigns" news, actually turns out to be true. In that and many other instances, the unofficial sites are much quicker off the blocks than the sporting media outlets.

My best advice? Don't click on the Rumour Mill and avoid discussions that deal in transfer speculation. For the vast majority of Blues currently wearing out their F5 keys, it is a form masochism that is part and parcel of supporting Everton. And it is Everton who are the real cause of your agony this summer!

James I understand your frustration/anger mate but just do as I do
and dont engage in any transfer speculation gossip. I will never ever again be taken in by anything the club puts out in the way of transfer targets and take every comment made by a fellow Evertonian with a pinch of salt until I see someone on the back of the Echo with a scarf held aloft. Even then I am still sceptical.

Being an Evertonian is always hard but getting caught up in the rumour mill makes it much harder. Just blank it out, it's surely better than your suggestion of censorship.

Nice try James but if its cold hard facts you want I doubt you?ll get what you?re after on here, or on the OS.

The fact is most of us rarely know what the club is up to, even when they open up. Hence the endless speculation.

We spend more time than is healthy looking to slay our thirst for news or updates or the odd explanation but actually the only glimpse of reality is what you see on the pitch.

Sad but true!

Lyndon, hi. Thanks for your response. Took what you said on board - respect your view.

However having just read Charlie Percival’s "contribution", feel it worthwhile to clarify my position, which I had thought underpinned my original post

I have myself, on occasion, viewed the rumour mill. Like most things...does no harm...when taken in moderation.

My initial point was, given the summer we have had...and the "hurricane" of rumour and counter rumour, is it not right that in these unique circumstances (can you remember a period like it?) you at least review output?

However, the thrust of my contribution centred upon a desire to now move forward and examine "why" we are in the state we are in. Whoever signs...something has gone seriously wrong here.

Addressing the fog of lies is where my mind is now...I seek the truth...hence the title of my correspondence.

As I say...The Truth...one signing we would all (surely) universally welcome.

If you’re talking about reviewing our own output, we already do that. Like I say, some stuff we don’t even post now, and there are some sources, both online and in print that we almost always automatically discount.

If you’re talking about the output from readers via the Comments facility, well that’s just too much moderation for us to handle. Besides, we’re happy to provide a collation of Everton news from across the media and a forum where people can discuss this stuff to their heart’s content.

I actually think the glut of rumour and counter-rumour has made it easier to sift out the more reliable sources even if it is exhausting.

"The hurricane of misinformation" may be too strong a phrase to describe the trickle of nothing very much happening non-stories. We’re talking about the team now, not Kirkby. We are all totally pissed off because DM hasn’t - for whatever reason - brought in 3 or 4 quality players and a few more for the squad.

Having said that, there weren’t many players in last year’s best team I wanted to see replaced. And the availability of ’quality’ players is restricted by their numbers and their price tags. As you look around the real transfer market this summer - as opposed to the rumour mill stuff - not very much is happening at all. I know we’re bad, but its not just us, which says that something else - perhaps in the financial world - is going on.

It's part and parcell of supporting any football club, not just Everton.

I mean, the people who come on here whinging about the endless speculation linking us to every half decent player in the world need to realise how lucky we are.

Imagine being a Manc or supporting Chelsea or Spurs?
Them poor fuckers must be demented, when they?re linked with a player they actually have half a chance of signing him. I believe if we had Chelsea's cash, I?d be getting up half a dozen times a night to check the web sites

It's so much easier being an Evertonian, you can torture yourself as much or as little as you want, but at the end of the day, you know you can go to bed in the certain knowledge that when you wake up we?ll have signed no fucker.

Johann - waiting on interest from Liverpool
Wolfgang - using our interest to advertise his availibility to the Sky 4
Von - we offered 10 million in staged payments over next 5 years. His club told us to get stuffed.
Goethe - 43 year old former Latvian international who failed medical today (couldn’t climb up the stairs).
Well that’s another four that’s escaped our grasp.

James it’s frustrating I agree, but I’m afraid if you want a club that actually spends big all the time year after year then you’ed be better off supporting the American Wankers across the park. But we aren’t gloryhunters, we are reall football fans. C’mon mate, being shit is what Everton are good at, have pride in that.

Lyndon, I have a mate who is a Liverpool supporter and a retired accountant. (Yes, I know it?s a pretty mind-numbing combination). At the moment he is checking out every fan site in the Premier League and the Championship. (Yes, I know it?s a pretty sad way to put a day in). However, his honest opinion is that ToffeeWeb is the best site by a mile.

Transfer rumours are the life blood of the summer. It?s fun for God's sake! Okay, Everton haven?t given us much fun this summer, but going on ToffeeWeb is like being in a pub where everyone supports Everton. It?s the best pub in the world.

I think the plan was to play Osman on Wright-Phillips?s shoulders in the first half then swap them round in the second half to add the much needed height to our midfield.

If SWP doesn?t want to come then BK needs to act quickly otherwise he won?t have a full line up of the 7 dwarfs for his Christmas panto production of Snow White.

I hate to say it but Moyes is starting to piss me right off.

Slag Kenwright off all you like, but the drivel and shite that Moyes has been coming out with this past week is a fucking joke. I defended him last week for defending his "quality over quantity" policy, but now he’s somewhat lowered that notion into complete and utter bollocks, and whilst doing so is just putting prospective signings more and more off into coming to us.

Take for instance last weekend. He came out and said that he’s gonna have to start looking at lower quality players... fuck me that’s a good way to instill confidence into the players you want to sign! I mean what sort of stupid comment is that?

Then there’s the bollocks over that Riera - for a start he doesn’t want to come to us, and why offer Espanyol £12m when the redshite are getting him for £8m?

Speaking of bidding £12m for a foreigner (who was shite for Man Shitty last year), why do so then not prepare to bid £9m for tried, tested, young international wingers in the moulds of Milner and Wright-Phillips?

As previously stated on Toffeeweb (and a class statement it is too), Moyes has become an expert of saying a lot but at the same time saying fuck all, if you catch my drift(?)

I think he’s a class manager and the one for the job, but he’s shot himself in the foot lately with the way he’s been carrying on... or whether it’s his attempts of covering up what REALLY is happening behind the scenes at Goodison, I don’t know...
