Shaun Wright-Phillips

Comments (41)

Shaun Wright-Phillips, according to his agent, has rejected both City and Everton. Another Player happy to sit on the Bench and collect his money every week. Do these lads have any ambition anymore? He has the potential to play for England and become a the star man of either Team but yet he would rather just waste his career sitting on the bench or not even being in the Chelsea squad every week. Waste of talent.

Oh well, time to see if Milner has had his head turned / heart set on any team in particular...?

Well if that is the truth and he is happy to sit on the bench. It proves he?s just a sh!thouse. Quite sad really.

Or maybe it just goes to show he?s above both City and Everton?

Really disappointed about and with SWP.

As people said, let’s see if we can get want away James Milner... Though I’d hazard a gues he wants to be at RS or Le Arse.

I'm not a massive fan of Milner, I would have liked to see SWP because he has pace which we lack throughout the team, apart from our centre backs!

Shame we aren?t going to get SWP, but how much is on at Chelsea? If they paid £24m for him he?s got to be on at least £70-80k per week. We would never pay him anything like that.

Somehow I just couldn?t picture him riding down County Road on that three wheeled Harley Davidson the way he does round Chelsea.

SWP may be there to pick up twice what we could put his way, or he may have fight in him that says he wants to make his mark with a world cup winning coach at a champions league club. I don’t think the son of Ian Wright would be brought up not to make the most of his career and do his best. If that’s not us so be it. Shame though. Then again, not ’Moyes signing’ in my oppinion.

The quotes I read - from the agent, not the player - said that he wanted to stay at Chelsea.

Read between the lines of agent speak, and see that this is an agent trying to maximise a payoff with a "loyalty payment".

He can choose to stay at Chelsea and take his considerable wages. If that’s his decision then I’d say that whatever his talent he does not have the right temperament for our current squad, whatever his footballing talent.

As for the "son of Ian Wright...": well he’s a stepson, and as for not making the most of his career, his brother didn’t exactly do that when he rifled that girl’s bag in a nightclub did he?

SWP’s hand might be forced into a move if Scolari wants rid and brings in his own players this week, but I think this agents release was also a ploy to get him a move to another London club if he does end up leaving Chelsea. If we were proposing a loan move tho, then it could be beneficial to the player if he ends up having a blinding season for us, he may get another crack at Chelsea next year!

not ?Moyes signing? in my opinion.

Well, Chelsea would want a transfer fee, Wright Phillips would want a salary that meant he would have to shop at Lidl, oh and as we’ve learned - we don’t need midfielders, just more defenders. Then again, I think the other five or six ’signings’ will be existing squad players coming back from injury or the Olympics.

I think Jacobsen is the limit of our dealings this window I’m afraid. There’s no way any sane person in Moyes’ or Kenwright’s shoes would choose to leave their dealings this late. That’s your lot. The icing on the cake would be Moyes waiting until the end of January, then upping sticks and joining United as Fergie’s no. 2 if things don’t improve.

Nick I could understand what you’re saying if SWP had only wasted one season so far at Chelsea (let’s face it, neither ourselves or City are an attractive proposition atm), but he’s been there for 3 seasons now spending most of his time on the bench. This will be his 4th and whilst I can understand him wanting to play CL football, sometimes you have to move if you want to play regular football...he obviously puts other things before playing regularly.

I am becoming increasingly worried as we approach the end of the transfer window. It's like doing your Xmas shopping at ten to midnight and theres bugger all left to buy. How many more times are we to be told that the player does not want to come to us. I am not holding my breath waiting for players to come in but we really do need players to bolster the squad. I am not pointing fingers at anyone person but if it ends with just one or two coming in somebody is not doing the job they are asked to do.

If SWP has decided that neither EFC nor City are good enough for him, well that is typical of many modern day players. In their fantasy world they are bigger than the clubs. Milner is doing the same thing with Newcastle. See also Robbie Keane, a decent player doing well at Spurs but suddenly discovered he was a boyhood RS fan.

I despair of them, they don?t want to play football, they just want to be famous..

Ian McDowell, you should know by now that you don't have be playing for your team every week to get in the England squad. It depends on your face and if it fits not wether your playing brilliant every week or playing at all for that matter. Some players can be injured for 18 months and still get picked. England, my arse!

What I can't understand is how Everton FC have no money for new players when.......

1. their overall wage bill is low due to a small squad.
2. after selling AJ, Faddy there must be money.
3. Everton has larger than average Premier League attendances, hence high ticket revenue.
4. Premier League tv and Uefa Cup money.

Put all this together and all we get is enough cash for a loan signing of an unheard-of Danish full back, when even teams that are definitely for relegation and much smaller than Everton are buying all round them..

Someone please enlighten me......

I’m slightly torn on this one - yes, SWP is a good player who I think would fit in at Everton (provided we can fit him into the wage structure) and give us some much needed pace.

BUT

Does his potential signing not immediately rule out the signing of a creative central midfielder? Think about it, SWP is primarily a right-winger. Meaning he replaces Mikky out there and Mikky moves infield. Meaning Moutinho is definitely not coming, nor is anyone else who creates from the middle.

If we are looking at a loan, then perhaps we can still buy someone central, but if we are planning to spend the reported £9m on SWP then I think I would rather we held onto it and activated Moutinho’s release clause.

Chris K, I pray you’re right mate. and we still have a shot at SWP (although I’m not holding my breath). I think he would be a fantastic signing for us as he’d give us the pace we so desperately need going forward. I, for one, would not be adverse to having Arteta pushed into the middle spraying the ball all around the pitch. We still need a defensive midfielder BADLY though and I’m not too confident from everything I’ve read from the Rennes president with regard to M’Bia. Who the hell knows though?!? We’ll all find out on Sunday night where we stand.

NOBODY is on anywhere near that money at EFC, why is he worth that much ,? NO ! " get with the times has got nothing to do with it mate , just cos Chelsea put him on that much doesnt mean we have to get with the times and put the overated midget on 65k!

One of the best goal keepers in the premier league is sub at Chelsea..Cudiccini. Of course SWP should stay where the money is..football is a short career for most and thats why EFC cannot get top players..instead we keep people too long who dont even make the bench..Im including Dunc, VDM, Pistone etc. I dont blame any player to try for the best salary..we all do in our own professions..GET REAL !!
