One that got away?
Comments (31)
I think when the season closed and Carsley confirmed he was off, I think most of us would agree that signing a combative, defensive midfielder was a priority. With us knowing by now what an ideal "Moyes signing" is (young, preferably British, proven and value for money, £3m!).
Why on earth did we not challenge Wigan for the signature of Lee Cattermole? He ticks all the above boxes and surely he would have chosen the UEFA Cup playing blues ahead of the pie eaters! I know from a pal who goes to Boro that he was shocked we were not in for him as they rate him highly. (Southgate reluctantly sold him to fund other areas of team building).
He was certainly my M.O.M and most pundits on Sunday against a world class Chelsea midfield (even though they lost). So £3m, 20 years of age, British and specializing in the position we most need a replacement. Is it a case of a player Davey simply doesn't rate or one that got away?

I saw him make his debut, he was so combative and tasty in the tackle I though then that he would be one for the future and yes, he showed it again on sunday.
It’s ridiculous that our clubs scouting system could let such a young English and fairly cheap prospect go by without even a mention.
Suppose it sums up the summer though.
Still time though...
Doesn’t that tell you everything?
It should.
Did Wyness wipe his fat arse with it or what
maybe i spoke too soon
Anyone have any idea if he can kick a ball..?
Stats look good for a defensive player, decent goal return.
Bit worried that he had an ’Unsuccessful’ trial with Paul Ince for Blackburn, hope this was down to a dislike of the man and not a poor work ethic.
Oh well, we have now signed the player we were screaming out for, defensive midfielder, just a striker to go and I will be happy....would like a winger too now also.

HERE IS ALL HIS INFO GUYS
More info could answer some key general questions though, the key one being how much we have paid for him. If its a reasonable amount it puts paid to the increasingly popular theory that we have zero cash available. Also if its true that he is a DM, presumably that also scratches out the theory that Neville is being prepped to be our Cars replacement?
However, given his low profile I think ’Cas’ will be in the Arteta/Cahill/Lescott vein - e.g. cheap buys that end up core team members.
Now lets get SWP on loan, another midfielder and a striker and I’ll be happy.
Blackburn will not be pursuing their interest in Ecuador international midfielder Segundo Castillo, who has recently been on trial.Castillo had been training with Rovers at their pre-season camp in Germany, but failed to tempt Paul Ince into making a move for his services.
The Red Star Belgrade man is valued at around £6million, a price tag which Rovers appear reluctant to meet.
Blackburn chairman John Williams confirmed that the club will not be tabling a bid for the 26-year-old and will now be turning their attentions elsewhere.
"At this moment in time, we won’t be making an offer for Castillo," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"The player has returned to Red Star Belgrade

Trevor: RE- Milner -
SSN mentioned a figure today of £9mill + which we aint got unless BK has won the Euro Millions & I don’t think he’s worth punting our big bucks on even if we have got it!.
Neil: RE - SWP Loan
No way will SWP go on a loan deal, again SSN said he was in Manchester today speaking to Man Shitty but no go there. IF he goes anywhere it’ll cost a few dollars in fee + salary...... Not likely (But I live in hope!)
Castillo + Hans Chrisitian Anderson + Zayette fella + a few more and DM has got his 6 signings he asked for!!!

Reports say Castillo is a loan also - so that's possibly 5 players and not a penny paid in transfer fees.
Doesn't that prove something?
Let's hope Davey is saving up for Moutinho!
Or perhaps it is the result of the Kirkby inquiry which has meant any cash is being kept firmly in the safe.
Whatever the reasons it is quite clear that EFC are unable or unwilling to speculate at this moment in time.
So roll on next summers transfer window... although that may present a different set of problems i.e. players wanting to move on!
If we ever had the money for those two then we can afford Wright-Phillips and should be making him a priority. I don’t know much about Moutinho except what I’ve read but I have seen how bloody good Wright-Phillips was in the Premiership with a very average Man City team around him. We need someone who can persuade the players to come to Everton because actually they will genuinely be better off here than anywhere else outside the top four. This is something we struggle to get across, the obvious barrier being that wages are higher elsewhere. Will one decent footballer ever put his career ahead of his bank manager? The money may come later guys, once you’ve proven yourself.
Incidentally, the Standard Liege guy Stephane Dalmat mentioned earlier used to play for Inter Milan I think, he may have Serie A medal, I can’t remember. He’s certainly no unknown and would cost money.
That said I think I?m more optimistic than most (of us) about Castillo. From all that I?ve read he seems a good professional acquisition. The only down side may be a ?settling in? period.
I?m very much hoping for official confirmation of Victor Obinna?s loan signing too. Just wondering if we?ll be pulling Efan Ekoku out fo retirement and go for a fourth Nigerian forward.
