Sa ha we go again

Not really sure what to make of the Saha deal (could say the same for all 4 signings so far to be honest), but at least it's company for Yakubu up front (and in the treatment room).

There's no doubting the lad has been quality and IF we can keep him on the pitch for 75% of the year I think this could turn out to be a shrewd move. A quality player who still has plenty to prove at the prime age for a Striker.

So far the rest of the signings still feel like squad-fillers, but if we could pull off 1 big midfield name (Moutinho, Topal) then we might just be able to get our season on track and at least maintain the same level and expectations of last year.

What I don't understand however is how come we've been nowhere near the more obvious midfielders this summer, the likes of Malbranque, Bullard or Sidwell for instance any of whom could have played a role in our first team. Hmm, questions, questions.

After the events of the last few days, the club will have to change its name to The Loan Rangers, led by Wild Bill Kenwright. This would be particularly appropriate if, heaven forbid, we move to Kirkby which always used to be known as the wild west.

According to Sky Sports we?ve agreed yet another loan deal for Victor Obinna. Surely there is some kind of cap on the amount of loan signings a club can make? At this rate the loanees will outnumber the contracted players!

Is that the last of the Rooney money accounted for then?

Could be a good signing, but James Vaughan won’t be best pleased.

Let me get this straight...we play one up top and now (work permit allowing) we’ll have Yakubu, Vaughan, Anichebe, Jutkiweicz, Obinna, Saha, Baxter...???!!!

Like another poster said, if Sunderland had an £8M bid rejected for him, then that would be a scary bit of business for us. If, on the other hand, we got him on the cheap, then we’d have a headless chicken to replace AJ with the best part of £10M in profit.

Think the max number of loan players allowed is 4, so room for a couple more!

Regarding Chris’ comments about not being interested in the more obvious midfield targets, I doubt we could afford the wages, or perhaps more accurately, are unwilling to break our wage structure to accomodate them.

I think our top earners are on £40k a week, the likes of Sidwell will be getting £60k from Villa, Malbranque approaching that and Bullard... okay maybe we could afford him.

This is why Moyes has to look abroad or into the lower leagues.

Obviously these loans will cost a bit of money, but given how we’ve sold Johnson and McFadden and let go a whole host of others, with only Piennar coming in at £2.5 million, you’ve got to assume we’re gonna go in big for Moutino.

Anything less will see Kenwright lynched at the EGM.

I laugh at the thought that 2 international players are "sqaud fillers" - so we have not signed Kaka or, but with the likes of Hibbert (cannot pass or crosss to save his life) and Neville (poor distribution) at right back SURELY Jacobson will be a good shout at right back, and as for Castillo - Rodwell and Gosling - or a full international? Easy one really.

Far too much negativity at the club at the moment, we had far too many years of that under Kendall (2nd & 3rd spells), Walker and Smith. Moyes is working miracles with our team and has been for 5 years.

AND IF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY!

It?s a gamble definitely, with a bit of luck though and a fresh start Saha could be a hit here. He really is a class act on his day, as good as Yak in my opinion albeit a little different.

Hopefully it comes off. He?s experienced, he?s proven, he?s a very talented player and on his day he?s completely unplayable. Please keep fit Lou.

Even if he isn?t a success, we still are getting Obinna who can play upfront and is also a very good talent.

Milner?s gone to AV.

But as Simon Birdsey points out we don?t really need him.

Dependent on what figure was I think he?s a good squad addition... at any rate he can keep Vaughan company in Sick Bay (fingers crossed no injuries his season).

In my view the jury is definately out on Saha but if I remember rightly is was for the Yak for a few people too so the best thing is to give the lad a chance as at the end of the day he?s now an Everton player and we should get behind him. Probably filling that vacant number 9 shirt too. Castillo looks to me to be a tough defensive midfielder who can hold his own in this league so again lets get behind him. Would have prefered Cana, M?Bia or Fellaini though. With regards to Obinna my thoughts are that Moyes will play him wide left as he?s got a sweet left foot and will be able to use his pace and run at defenders. Saw him at the Olympics (with the mane Nsofor on his back) and was very impressed. Would like to see Stephen Appiah come in on a free, good attacking experienced player. So we have Saha, Jacobson, Castilla and Nsofor. Just Moutinho, Appiah and Arshavin to go. Would be nice!

Obinna’s best position is apparently left wing, but can play right and upfront and is extremly highly rated! Also, we needed another striker aswell as him because at this rate, Finch Farm and Goodison will be a ghost town whenever Nigeria play.

I feel very disappointed by this. The man is made of glass.

God, all we had to do was keep Johnson and Carsley, sign Fernandes and we would have had a better side than we do now.

I’ve officially lost hope & drawing Liege hasn’t made me feel any better.

Anyways, the players that now come out of Moyes’ hat are not the ones linked heavily.

Look out for someone not mentioned earlier folks.

Dan McKie, where does the information come from that Obinna’s best position is left wing? If true its extremely good news in my opinion. I’ve only seen him described as a striker but for years I’ve noticed that practically anyone who’s ever scored a goal gets described as a striker in transfer reports.

"The perfect Moyes signing "

Quite!

1. ex-ManUtd
2. Injury prone
3. What was the fee again....?
4. Dubious relevance to a very poor Everton team
5. Last minute buy to make up numbers

Things are starting to make a bit more sense now then. Obinna will be signed more as a winger than a striker, which is exactly what we need, as we have no natural width. As Inter have only just signed him, it would be very strange for us to pick him up permenantly so soon though.

It sounds as if Saha has signed for a free to begin with, with some possible add ons depending on appearances. Not a bad bit of business then, although he is 30 and he’ll probably need a good run in the side to get his confidence back- a luxury that wasn’t afforded to Beattie or Johnson.

Castillo has a very good scoring record for a supposed ’defensive’ midfielder. Was it 7 goals he got last season?

Jacobsen seems like a decent aquisition at 28, a full international and on a free, especially if he is as good going forward as has been suggested. I’m not a big fan of Hibbert.

Hopefully then, the final piece of the jigsaw will be a creative midfielder such as Moutinho...surely not beyond our means considering that we still have the Johnson money burning a hole in our ass pocket. I’d even settle for the return of Mani on loan again to be honest.

So, here’s how we’re looking, until the injured players return:

Howard
Jacobsen Yobo Lescott Baines
Castillo
Arteta Osman Neville Obinna
Yakubu

(Turner, Jagielka, Rodwell, Saha, Vaughan, Valente, Anichebe)
