So why the Delay?

Comments (25)

I cant believe it! No, not the fact that we have signed one of the most injury prone strikers to ever grace the Premier League, but the fact that it is not a loan deal and we are actually spending some money!

Two things arise from this - Firstly, no-one, and I mean no-one, has been indicating on the rumour pages that we were even sniffing around Louis, yet alone the deal was so close to being done. This confirms the fact that 99% of rumours are just that, with no basis to them and we should not believe anything until it is confirmed publically.

Second point is why has this taken so long to go through, signing him the day before our 3rd game of the season? Louis Saha was behind Tevez, Ronney and Ronaldo as a striking option at Man U, and has been for the whole of last year and will be at least again this season. If the release of Saha was linked to the signing of Berbatov then fair enough, but that hasn't happened, so why the delay? I get the feeling this should've occurred much earlier, and that a full pre-season with us would of benefitted him. Therefore I don't expect to see much from him 'til next year, which I feel is a wasted opporunity to start the season with the partnership of Saha and the Yak in full swing.

I may be alone in this but I actually feel that this is a good signing for us. If fit, and it's a big if, he is a quality finisher, who demonstrated that at Fulham and Man U when fit, never looking out of place and playing upfront for France ahead of Anelka and Trezeguet. He's got a bit of pace, good in the air and a natural goalscorer, and reckon he adds that bit of depth and class to a promising team.

This week is turning into a good week for the Blues, after a shit summer, but if the money is there to make an offer for SWP and Reira then theres enough to sign Moutinho! Come on Moyes, hes the signing we all want! If we get him then I feel this season could quickly change from being one of doom and gloom and dread to pushing the top 4 and actually winning some silverware!

So we've sighned another Utd player; firstly, anybody have any idea how much we have paid for him? I would imagine about £3.5 million due to the contract lengh.

Secondly, I'm feeling a little uncomfortable with our relationship with Man Utd... can't put my finger on it but it smells a little fishy, and not in a nice way.

Let me state that I have no issue with the quality of this guy at all - he's a natural goalscorer.

However, a very solid source of mine at Sunderland has rung me this morning to say that Sunderland had agreed terms with Man Utd to sign Saha and he was due to be paraded before their first home game against Liverpool.

He then failed his medical. The Sunderland doctors said that both knees are "shot" and they didn't know whether he would play 6 minutes of football or 600 games! I only hope that we have paid peanuts up fromt and the rest must surely be dependant upon the number of appearances he makes.

If he can get past his injury problems (wishful thinking) he would be a great addition. More of a goal threat than AJ and also has pace to burn, however what are the chances of him playing more then 15 games a season, what with his injury record?

Will this spell the end of our interest in Victor Obinna? Can he not play on the left wing as well? If so I'd have him as he looked tasty in the Olympics.

There is something very odd about the (impending?) signature of Man Utd reject Louis Saha. For one, my two- year old cousin knows that Saha spends as much time injured as I do on ToffeeWeb. So why would Moyes, who's probably seen enough of Van der Meyde, want to get Saha?

Secondly, Saha doesn't fit the Moyes mould. No doubt he's got talent, but he's old ? nearly 30. All other signings (except maybe Gravesen redux), in the last few years, have been in their 20s.

Thirdly, why not on loan ? As an injury risk, he'd make a prime candidate for a loan signing, that way we can send him back, like we sent Anthony Gardner back earlier.

I don't have answers to these questions and don't normally like to speculate. But, I can suggest that Moyes wouldn't have bought him unless he could buy him real cheap (nearly a free, or with some sort of appearances clause). I doubt Saha would have had many takers.

I suppose he can do the job as the backup to the Yak.

I don’t think we have spent any money, or at least hard cash. I would assume that they’ve struck a deal over outstanding payments for appearances (or other) from the Rooney deal, either that or it’ll be based on Saha’s appearance’s, which I’d also assume to be limited.

Saying that, if Saha is fit and we do play him, he’s a good player, fast, quick footed and always has a very good goal-shot ratio.

Radio Merseyside just reported at 2:30pm that David Moyes?s press conference indicated that there was indeed no fee paid. I think it?s a damn good piece of business for a player who cost £12m 4 years ago. Just need some midfielders now - another 2 and we?ll be OK with Cahill and Piennar returning next month.

Happy we have at least signed some players but really is anyone convinced by what has happened so far? All these players will need time to settle into the team and I’m not convinced we have addressed the real issues with the team. The goalkeeping is threadbare. The midfield is threadbare. The only good news so far is that the kids have been blooded and have in general held up well and that thank God nobody has come in for Arteta being as he is just about the most gifted player I have ever seen in a blue jersey and certainly as good as any midfielder in the premiership.

Anyone notice that none of the players we have been linked with in the press have signed. So far the 3 we have confirmed as signings have been out of the blue so I wonder how good the press sources are or are they just plucking names from thin air and linking them to us.

Fergie was singing Saha’s praises over pre-season saying he has been working his balls off to get over his recurring injuries, but it was obvious he needs a fresh start elsewhere (like James Beattie did with us) and Moyes will hopefully get him back to his best.

Maybe "no fee paid" equates to "knock it off what you owe us"?

I think this just proves that we havnt got a pot to piss in!!

Jacobsen - Free
Castillo - Free
Saha - No fee upfront

Add to that the fact that we tried 2 get Wright-Phillips on loan (Whilst City offered hard cash) and it also looks like we are getting this lad from Inter Milan on Loan!

Or Mike, it could mean that he is saving his money for 1 or 2 bigger signings, nobody knows except those inside the club! I bet even if we get Moutinho, some on here will be straight on sayin "Great, another tiny lightweight midfielder, just what we need"!

Mike, I think that Moyes is doing good business. By making 3 or 4 free signings hes freeing up his budget to splash out on 1 or 2 high-quality signings. He does this every year, and it's worked up to now so in Moyes we trust! COYB!!!

"We are getting him for no cost just now which gives us a great chance to get him here." ? D Moyes on Saha.

I find that him costing nothing at the moment is the key there, we may not take up the deal at the end of the season, or are we being patronised by Man Utd?

Wouldn?t you just love it if we won something with a load of rejects, crocks and kids?

I don?t see a lot of admiration for Chelsea?s way of getting silverware.

As is often said here - we never do it the easy way.

Maybe Dave Hickson on the bench?

what’s the problem? No fee and probably taken over his contract with a fee to be paid next year if he does the buisness. If it doesn’t work out so what! if a club which finished 5th in the EPL can’t take a gamble on a free transfer then we really are in the shit.

No, this doesn’t smell fishy...it positively fucking reeks...of desperation.
Still, though, it’s sooo exciting to get a player from such a big club. Who cares if he ever actually plays for us, it’s just so cool that we have signed a player who played for not only ManUre, but also France.
Fuck me.

I dont mind Saha so much in fact I think it’s good business. He’s a class player and we got him for nothing.Maybe Alex is doing Davey a favour before lining him up as his number 2.

My real concern is that we have not signed the MF cover we need and I just hope (although my head says that’s stupid)that we get Mouthino and Mbia or somebody of a similar quality in before Monday.

We’re sat here 3 days to the close of the window and what have we got so far?

3 players for next to nowt, 2 of whom have a lot of sick notes to their CV’s.

1 possible Obinna subject to visa/barcodes/red shite allowing ( delete as appropriate )

and best of all if believe the bullshit .... a pot of money to spend on ......... write your own list.

Part of this post only is true. ......Guess which part?

The players and the sick notes.

Blue Bill has led us all a merry dance this summer.

The delay is not with Davey but that bullshitting Blue Bill.

Money....... if we have any is set for the cowshed that will be Kirby.

The delay was only with the passing of the window/summer and the opportunity for EFC to enter the promised land of the ’SKY 4’

BLUE BILL is guilty of bullshitting Davey into believing it was there in the first place and us mugs into parting with our hard earned pennies before it became obvious IT WAS NEVER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

The delay was in us mugs SUSSING OUT THE BULLSHIT.

Fishy my backside.

MANURE more like stopping us waking up and smelling that sweet smell of success into the CL which if BLUE BILL had given Davey the money is where we would surely be headed.

The DELAY is in BLUE BILL ’Mr 24/7’ doing the honerable thing and selling up his beloved EFC.

Well I got news for you BLUE BILL..... You are only a temporary custodian of EFC.

EFC is OUR CLUB.

EFC is the PEOPLES CLUB.

THE DELAY IS ONLY TEMPORARY.

PLEASE WALK BEFORE 36000 TURN THEIR ANGER ON YOU.

Do not please go down in history as the chairman of EFC during the season the PEOPLES CLUB lost the support of the people.

You are close now. You dont know how close.

Make the EGM a night of celebration for all supporters of the PEOPLES CLUB.

Delay no longer and RESIGN.
