Stephen Hunt NEXT!!!

Comments (49)

Reports in Ireland suggest Stephen Hunt of Reading will be Moyes' 4th signing. What do you guys think of him? And does he play a holding role in the middle??

Tonight's 'Evening Herald' (it's the Main Dublin Newspaper) is running a story on the back page titled 'Hunt Going to Everton'. Can't say I trust it ....

Awful, just awful. Here is a little vignette of Everton v other clubs re;ambition, wealth etc. We sign a right back rejected by Colchester Utd. Man City sign the Argentinian right back who has just won a gold medal. Aston Villa and Man City spend roughly £10 mill each on wide players. We go for this long haired larrikin. If the money is there, go to Sporting and pay 20 big ones for Moutinho and make us proud...just for once.

It beggars belief to me at times the ignorance of some supporters.

Is Stephen Hunt a holding midfielder?, FFS surely your having a joke.
We sign Castillo and that does not give you any clue that he might not be.

I dont know what football you watch but it cant be the same as me.

He would add no value to Everton whatsoever by the way.

Guys, Hunt is a decent player. Agreed He?s not Ronaldo, but he industrious and would, as Brian says, be a good impact player. No, I wouldn?t pay £10m for him (not that I?m suggesting we have) but if we got him for a good price then he?s a great signing. Let's face it, coming from Reading he can?t have massive wage expectations.
Good squad addition.

Ian,

Think they’ve just rehashed the story... we’re waiting on work permit, but that should be a formality after his role in the Olympics apparently.

Guys,
Hunt is actually a decent player with a super attitude and would not slot in very well. Could also be picked up for a reasonable price.
A note of caution though, if the Irish Evening Herald is being quoted as a source then be sceptical. T?is a rag.

Still not sorted the midfield. Hunt is a nuisance, not a bad player but methinks he will have the same qualities as Simon Davies, we couldn?t win a game with him. As usual too we get the poor end of the Uefa Cup draw but it will at least give the Everton administration an excuse for an early exit while we battle for Premier League survival. Where is the ambition?

@ Gareth Hughes, did the signings of Cahill, Lescott, Arteta etc.. make you proud at the time? I doubt it! Hunt is a decent player, did well in the Premier League and was Reading's best player last season. Also, Obinna is supposed to be a potential world class player in the making, can play on either flank or striker and is fast as fuck! We aint even got Hunt yet, and it might be bollocks like most stories.

Decent player. Seems like a bit of twat though. Not sure what I?d back that up with it just comes across in his attitude. I?m pretty sure that when we were linked with him before the headline was something along the lines of ?lairy 70s throwback...?!

I?ve been asking for a left sided player, he?s not quite what I had in mind though.

Just read, and I know its been changed a few times, that Moutinho was spotted at Finch Farm. Well thats what Wiki says. It said on his page yesterday that a 20 million euro deal was agreed but that part is now gone and now says he is at Everton. Probably the biggest joke ever but can only hope its true.

Hunt is a good little impact player.

He’s the type of player that every other team hates but loved by his own. I remember he came on a few years ago for Reading against Everton and scored the winner for them.

He’ll be a good squad player if true, the strength in depth that we need. But not the world beater we have been waiting for.

Depends how much TBH. Hot head which could go both ways, his agression may compliment Arteta?s skill.Wouldn?t pay more than about £3-4 million quid for him myself.

I'm quite pleased with Saha.If he stays fit and plays upfront alongside Yak I think they?ll probably end up scoring at least 30 goals between them and if Vaughan and Victor can chip in with 10 or so goals between them and with Cahill scoring 10 a season (again IF he stays fit) we should do well again next year.

If we do sign Obinna on a loan I think he should gain some very good experiance. Another type of player who will feed the Yak and Saha with some quality crosses. Should fit in well with Yobo, Victor and Yak.

I get a bit lost with the attitude that we need to ’splash the cash’ to make us ’feel proud’.

We entered a football league competition, not a ’who can spend the most’ competition.

If we can break the Sky3 and the RS without spending shitloads of cash that would actually make me feel a lot happier than doing an Abramovich.

That said, if my Euromillions come in Davey can have half.

"Lars nearly came here a year or two ago and now we have brought him in," said Moyes. "With Tony Hibbert injured this frees up Phil Neville to play in midfield."

Would be good for the squad. He’d provide a left footed option in midfield, which would be nice in tight games when we need to stretch the opposition a bit better than we currently do.
The only thing is that Steve Coppell is reluctant to sell any of his players at this late stage, and who can blame him?
While we are on the topic of Steven Hunt, I wouldn’t mind us looking at Kevin Doyle. Though I wouldn’t pay more than about 5 or 6 mil, cos even tough he had a good first season in the Prem, he was fairly average ast year. But he’s certainly got ability.

He’s a decent player, scores his fair share of goals and makes a few too. I know he’s a left winger but he reminds me a bit of tim cahill. Although there is something about his attitude that don’t seem right, just the way he acts on the pitch, seems very arrogant not sure really it’s just an impression i get of him.

Hunt would be a good signing, another of those players whose contribution is often underrated. Certainly can’t question his effort is also capable of grabbing a goal or two would be a good signing in my book. I really couldn’t give a toss what he looks like or whether he gets up people’s noses. Cahill’s pretty good at that, superb at winding up the opposition - works a treat.

No Jay, with respect, you and the other knockers of Stephen Hunt are wrong. This bloke is full of 90+ mins energy and doesn’t say die. I saw a number of full Reading matches on Sky last season and every time I thought ’this fella would go well with us’. With him and Tim Cahill in the side we wouldn’t be disappointed.
