Departing from the party line

Comments (17)

Moyes has alternated all summer between toeing the party line saying "we have money" and then making comments to the effect that we have no money.

A few weeks back he made a remark in response to Ian Ross' statement about funds being available which was something along the lines of "well, if that is what the club statement says then so be it." Roger Boli, agent of the Guinean trialist, said there was disagreement between Moyes and his "president" over the failed transfer. Moyes said last weekend that he would have to sign 6 or 7 players this week for "nothing".

Today he made the point again about spending no money and seemed pretty miffed. Kenwright and Ross appear to have been lying and Moyes is no longer able to toe the line and make it seem like one big happy family. He is probably as miffed as we are when Villa agree a £12m fee and terms with Milner and then we offer
$2m less.

It makes him seem like a retard who can't get his act together when clearly Kenwright and Ross are doing their usual smoke-and-mirrors trick. It really is time for Kenwright to leave. In all the years I have never seen such a pissed off reaction from a boss to new signings. His comments on the newbies today were basically "one is a squaddie, one has a pulse and is unknown and one is crocked and we're praying for a miracle. All in all the team sucks and this situation is a joke."

Inspiring words from a broken fall guy.

When Dave walks as he will ,even if he runs his contract out I hope the fans show him the appreciation and respect he deserves.

Agree with Kieran and Roy on this one. Moyes’ public statements have made interesting reading this summer and they have definitely described a curve of confidence that would logically seem to follow what he is himself being "assured".

Initial enthusiasm seems to have given way to patient silence and then to ever more frustration from around the time of the pre-season trip to the US as it became clear that the sort of cash both he and us thought would be available is not!

If Moutinho is magically delivered all cries of dissent will turn to cheers but you have to wonder where the money suddenly came from if it wasn’t available earlier. Who has BK borrowed from this time and at what return?

What seems clear is that this "rabbit out of the hat" trick that delivered the Yak last year and maybe some signings this year is no way to go on and it has to change if BK’s tenure is to survive much longer.

If he loses Moyes and fails to make a similarly inspired choice in the next mnagerial apppointment he will have nowhere to go...

What is very frustrating is the inconsistencies.

From what I remember we bid £12.5M for Fernandes last summer, received £5M for MacFadden in January, £20M at least in Extra TV money this season for 5th place, £10M from Andy Johnson’s sale, plus £1M from Rooney’s success with Man U. This is a total of £48.5M extra from season 2006/2007.

Even allowing for extra wages and UEFA cup costs we are missing around £40M if what Moyes’ statements in today’s papers are true and that we have ’little’ cash.

Everton should be sending their accounts to their shareholders, does anyone know where this money is going to?

Milner isn’t worth 10 mill, or 12 mill for that matter, there’s a chance that spending 20 mill on Moutinho is also pissing money up the wall, who says he’s any better for Everton than Arteta, and would you value Arteta at 20 mill ? I think Arteta is awesome but he’s 12-15 mill market value max, it’s probably a good thing that someone else other than Moyes is brokering the deals and not being held to ransom for over inflated prices for players that might not even cut it in the prem. It’s like buying a car, if someone’s got a second hand motor with all the right add-ons and in the right colour, would you pay 20% over asking price just because it’s the player you want, sod that, that’s how the market got fucked up in the first place, teams blowing loads of cash they didn’t have on ’desirable’ players.

Moyes is just playing a canny game to eek a bit more cash out of BK, I mean, where’s he gonna go ? Celtic maybe but we’re never gonna stop that, Manure, doubtfull, Hughes or Keene have that one sown up, so then, Newcastle or Spurs being other likely options and one’s with cash to spend, but again, if he wants to leave a team he’s built up over years we’re never gonna stop it, maybe they’ve just been too busy chasing shadows to sort the contact out, and maybe he’ll leave next Summer, but we’re in a far better position than we were when he arrived

lol..

I am who I say I am, I don’t pipe up very often, I couldn’t be arsed with the negativity going on all summer so I bit my tongue, I think the last time I piped up apart from the last couple of days was to try and write new Goodison chants, one being to a tune of Walzing Matilda for Tim Cahill.

I’m a miserable old git but weirdly I’m always positive when it comes to what the future holds with Everton, if anyone cares I think we should stay within the city, strongly consider a ground share, and do what we can to get rid of any debts the club might have (paying interest on a loan of millions is pissing money up the wall), even if that means going through a whole summer without actually paying for a player, agents should be regulated, transfer fees should be set by an independent body and Liverpool City Council should be busting a gut to keep Everton within the boundaries of the city, you don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone.

I believe that I have just seen on Sky Sports News that the shite are not going to be building their new stadium yet due to the "Global market ?" So that really rules out a groundshare.
I believe that Moutinho would be as good, if not better, than Arteta for Everton. However the chances of getting him appear to be slim. This probably wasn’t helped by submitting derisory offers to Sporting. I mean, for pities sake, £11.8m ?
I suspect that he may be worth at least £15m, in the current climate, and I don’t think Sporting are being unreasonable.
Can you possibly imagine our midfield if we managed to get any of our alleged targets ? It would be awesome ! Sorry just dreaming again.
I too can see Moyes leaving and then the shit really will hit the fan.

A long time ago it seems now, but whilst waiting our usual hour before kick-off we were discussing who we wanted our new manager to be. I said that there was a cracking young bloke at Preston that could do a good job for us. My only worry was that I thought he would be like Martin O’Neill was at Leceister, ie the team would be greater than the sum of it’s parts, so if he did join us then left we would be in serious trouble.
Now I think more than ever that I was bang on the button. I don’t think that Moyes will walk out on his contract, I think he has far too much honour and dignity. But, I can see him going next summer when his contract expires and then who will we get? Don’t fool yourselves into thinking "Which club would want him if he leaves us?" There are a whole stackful of clubs that would love to sign him up and deliver the backing that we apparantly can’t at the moment.
I fear for the future, I really do.

Simon,

Wash your mouth out with soap and water.

Arteta £12-£15 million? Barry is £18m. Milner £10. Asharvin £20m. I’d say Arteta is worth £20m. £25m if he was at a top four team. He had a poor last season due to his tum tum, but this season we’ll have him back to best.

A couple of quick points:-

1) Moutinho is possibly worth £20m (well worth more than Arteta) simply because of his age and potential re-sale value. Thats why EFC have reportedly been perusing him ahead of Arshavin ? plus of course Arshavin is earning twice as much already.

2) The extra £20m TV money was spent before we even got it on players last year such as the Yak. It's how clubs are opperating at the moment, spending money before they get it. Rather dangerous me thinks but a fact of life.

I would also add that on his day Saha can be a good player, he just doesn't have his day often enough; however, for a free transfer it is worth a punt (hopefully we agree a pay as you play salary structure).

I would love for Moyes to come out and talk straight. He’s got us all watching his body language to search for the truth.

I really hope that Kenwright will now see that spin and lies, will not fool the fans anymore.

I think that in order to clarify matteres Moyes himself should read out any club statements. .

Moyes is delaying his contract until DK is decided. He desparately wants if for the potential investment.

If it doesnt happen he will walk at the end of the season

I would stay if I were DM its the easiest job in the game...he cannot be blamed if we fail and he will be a messiah if we do well. He is in one of the most solid managerial posts in the Premier..why should he leave..he can get a regular job forever aqs this board has absolutely no ambition other than staying in the premier.

Trevor,

Bang on mate. I think Moyes would be safe from the sack by Kenwright if he got us relegated to League 1.

Kenwright has far too much to thank Moyes for.
