Depression...

Comments (24)

After listening to the Pompey match today, all I can say is that a deep feeling of loss and depression has fallen over me. For various reasons, I feel that the performance today summed up pretty accurately the feeling of all Evertonians.

We were well and truly beaten by a better organised and physically stronger side. There seemed to be a lack of real leadership and positive morale in the side.

After the emotional heights of last season, I believe that we are in for a very tough year, probably the toughest since Moyes took over. What can we expect when we send boys out to play a man's game? When the money people won't bring in the players that they promised and when the manager won't commit himself to a sinking boat... who would blame anyone for feeling depression?

There will be much better teams than Portsmouth to play in the coming months. I fear that things will only get worse before they get better. God help us all.

Cant help but compare the start of this season with that of 2005/2006 one. Both times had good previous seasons looking to kick on and challenge further. Both times struggling to sign quality players. Both times signing injury prone players (advm and now saha) Another tough looking draw in europe! morale low throughout squad and supporters!

Depression? couldnt agree more Paul

If we look at today’s performance and nothing alone the following points stand out at me.

1) The defence was at fault for Pompey’s 3 main chances turning into goals! Yobo/ Howard/Lescott had awful games.

2) We were incredibly unlucky. We hit the bar, had a ball cleared off the line, and Yakubu missed a penalty (Even though it should have been buried).

On any other day I feel we could have comfortably beaten Pompey or at the very least matched them.

Surprisingly, I’m coming home for once not worrying about the attacking side of our team, which created excellent chances even with Jagielka in the middle of the park, but its the defence that worried me. Yobo and Lescott are far too quiet, and Baines looks great going forward but so suspect at the back.

Looking at the overall picture I’m fuming with Kenwright and haven’t stopped, he is responsible for not meeting the asking prices of Moyes’ targets. He is responsible for the club having no money and being mismanaged at the highest level.

I can’t blame him for the defending we put in today, but boy oh boy if we had had some signings to play in midfield then we wouldn’t have defended so poorly as a unit against Pompey, and expect kids to do the job each game for us!

Overall, good attacking show, awful defending, awful management off the field.

There will be people baying for BK’s blood at the EGM- depends whether it will be all smoke and mirrors again..

Also I think its highly likely people will question Moyes’ loyalty to our club. How can he expect to attract top names to the club if he doesn’t show his commitment? It works both ways you know...

Hmm, it’s amazing how irrational Everton supporters can be. I seem to remember us having a terrible start to last season, too, and everyone moaning about relegation and "lost potential" after we lost the Derby. We’ll turn it around once the new, more experienced players come in, once Cahill is back, and once all the complete idiots in the stands stop booing the team at half time. Oh, and Bill Kenwright has absolutely fuck all to do with the team losing three nil, unless he’s been teaching Yakubu how to take his penalties.

I went to the game today and yes, it turned out shit, but it was never a 3-0 defeat performance. We had good chances including an open net for Arteta and a penalty which I cannot for the life of me, figure out why Yakubu took it! They hit us on the break and were very good at it today with each of their goals, they by no means dominated the game! It highlighted even more that we need proper midfield players in the middle and not defenders and hopefully that will be sorted in time for the Stoke game with a couple of new signings and maybe the likes of Pienaar and Cahills return. One thing though that has been poor is our defending, even in previous seasons when we have lacked creativity, we have always defended well and kept clean sheets, Moyes needs to address this by breaking up the pairing of Yobo and Lescott, as I think for the next game it should be Yobo and Jags and maybe Lescott sits it out, he looks out of form! Baines looked good today, we have a really good left back in him, heres hoping to a sucessfull couple of days in the transfer market and a much stronger looking first 11 for next game!

Barry, you can keep your blind optimism - we’ve just been shipped 3 goals at home for the second time in a fortnight.

If you don’t think BK has anything to do with it who do you think writes the cheque’s ?

Reality check please.

Bill lKenwright has fucking everything to do with todays result. His stewardship of our club this summer has been a complete and utter fucking disgrace.

Barry

I am one of those many idiots who booed in the stand, I even stayed on till the end despite my family insisting we leave, why, so I could fucking boo even louder.

Did you go to the first few matches of last season because I can’t remember the terrible start you refer to. That must make you an idiot or you set your standards way to high.

You must be happy with the shite they are serving up now and not the fantastic football served up last season!!

A lot of fans are saying when, if, but and maybe. The truth is we did not compete nor did we last week, the week before etc etc. Writing is on the wall so please sort out this fucking mess because I am loosing patience and yes I will keep booing because that today was shite.

Why didn’t Everton parade the new signings prior to kick off. It could have boosted us poor suffering souls and even sent out a welcome message to potential signings that you are welcome here.

OK, it may not have changed the scoreline but yet again it shows our shite PR machine at work. We deserve better but we settle for shite - idea there for a new motto me thinks!

Everton Pull Off Sensational £16M Signing of Joao Moutinho: Moyes to Beat Barca, Chelsea, Arsenal & Manchester United

Joao Moutinho: The Next Big Portuguese Premier League Star?Once again Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have produced another top talent to follow in the ranks of Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Quaresma, Nani and Miguel Veloso. The newest homegrown star is their attacking midfielder Joao Moutinho who is at the centre of a bidding war between a number of the biggest clubs in Europe though it?s Merseyside giants Everton who currently lead the pack.

The 21-year-old is already captain of his club side (the 2nd youngest player to ever do so) and a regular in the Portuguese national team. He also played in all 4 of Portugal?s Euro 2008 matches (3 starts). Press reports earlier this summer suggested Everton?s David Moyes had stolen a march on the rest of the interested clubs by preparing a bold £16million raid on Sporting. However, nothing materialised and now Chelsea are being strongly linked to the player who played under Felipe Scolari in the national set-up though the Toffees are thought to be stepping up their bid..

Some of Europe?s football giants are also casting admiring glances at the player such as Manchester United, Arsenal and most recently Barcelona. After all, Moutinho has a proven track record at every level of club and international football. He made his Sporting first team debut at 17 and was brought into the national side at 18. It?s only since the 2006 World Cup that the youngster has managed to cement his place in the national side and is now regarded as one of the key players in the squad.

Joao Moutinho: Sporting Lisbon?s Captain on the Move?In his first season in the Sporting first team the club reached the Uefa Cup final before losing out to Russian side CSKA Moscow. However, by beating 2 English clubs in that run (Middlesbrough & Newcastle) he was brought to the Premier League?s attention and his progress since has been monitored very closely. Despite being a creative player he has shown great consistency belying his tender age. Moutinho has made 108 career League appearances (105 starts) for Sporting and scored 13 goals. He has also won 17 caps (1 goal) which is impressive considering the type of player he is and the abundance of attacking talent which is produced by his nation. If Everton could pull of this signing then it would be a bold ambitious move by the club and enhance an ever improving small squad at Goodison. He has emerged as the club?s number one signing and could form part of a new midfield combination with Rennes defensive midfielder Stephane M?Bia.

Unreliable as it is wikipedia has him down as an Everton player as of today and Bluekipper has him down as being on Merseyside this could lift alot of depression .

As noted above, one surprising thing that we would never have expected is how bad the defence has been this season. I agree we should get Jags back in there. I think there is a lot of evidence now that Lescott and Yobo are not a good pairing together, as good as they are individually. Jags organises the defence and fills the gaps they way Stubbsy used to.

The reason the defence looks so bad is because they have lost the protection that Carsley used to provide. Jags admitted himself he's a shit midfielder, if he thinks hes creap in that position himself then there is not much else to be said. I do feel sorry for you guys that went to the game today you deserve much better.

Note to Evertonians: stop taking out your frustration on players who are doing their best, eg at the sight of a misplaced pass by Jack Rodwell, and direct it at the chairman and the board instead.
Note to Evertonians who stay away from Goodison Park on some point of principle: try getting to the match because the team need you.
PS And yes, we had no luck today (including the League Cup draw).

Totally agree with the number of threads stated how poor Everton were today. I feel so frustrated that last season we a least seemed to have pride and passion, but todays performance seemed to lack cohiesion and players whos confidence seemed to have been shot even this early in the season. And as for Barry having a go at the fans who booed, if you were at the game and thought that was an acceptable performance and didn?t react, you're a better person than me because that performance today was totally unacceptable. As for the derby match, Liverpool will murder us if we perform like we did today. I hope we get some quality in before the close of the transfer window, otherwise I feel our season could be over within a few weeks.
