Stop sulking, Moyes!!!

Comments (16)

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the current fiasco, it is time Moyes stopped acting like a sulky schoolboy. His obvious contempt for the club's recent signings is nothing short of a disgrace.

He is not the first manager to be promised money which doesn't then appear and he won't be the last. I suspect the problems have been made much worse by Moyes's own inability or willingness to react quickly to the fact that no one was willing to sell at the prices we were offering. We know he is an outstanding Plan A man but a very poor Plan B man.

As I said, though, none of this matters now as he is extremely well paid to be positive and make the best of a bad job. His 'we are all doomed' act is shamefiul and is in my view translating on to the pitch. If he feels he has been stitched up by Kenwright (haven't we all!!) then he should resign ? he wont of course until such time as he has a better-paid job to go to.

When he joined the club he knew we didn't have enough money to compete with the high rollers and that will never change unless we find a new Abramovich. He was happy enough to get on with it 2002 and he will have to do the same now.

We need a leader to get the players motivated. Anything else should be said in private to Kenwright. If his current strop continues it may well be Kenwright who gets rid of him.

In saying the above I would consider one possible other cause for his recent behaviour and that is he is actually suffering from stress or depression ? if so the club should get him some help quickly as things can't go on as they are.

You know, John, that is probably the most perceptive post I've read on here regarding this tricky subject. Of course, none of us really knows what's going on but his lack of fire just when it was needed most by the team really is his job and his only ? one that he is already paid exceptionally well for.

I think you're right: if he doesn't buck his ideas up, and pronto, he'd best be shipped out and we'll let the next one (whoever that may be... "Your mission, should you choose to accept it...") get started on his "Mission Impossible". [And please no-one ask who that would be; it would be entirely up to Bill Kenwright to select ? his job, not mine.]

Well even at the best of times, he’s not exactly the type to spontaneously start whisling zippety-doo-dah out of his arsehole - to quote Chevy Chase. My guess is that come tuesday night when the gong sounds, he’ll take a deep breath, then we’ll either see him walk, or perk up - probably depending on what happens between now & then. It seems like all at the club have been caught unawares by the apparent sudden change in the transfer weather - and why did it have to happen this of all years, dammit? I bet Dave’s dreaming of summer ’06 when you could bag Lescott & Johnson by June & then get straight off to benidorm. Cut him some slack though - the five year plan may be about to go tits up & what a real shame it’ll be if it does.

John,
My dad made a similar point. How can you motivate your employees if you come across as very down in the dumps. He needs to be instilling a siege mentality to inspire the players much as he did when he took us to 4th place.
He may rightly be very peed off but it does no good to show this to the team.

And yet Saha states that it was Moyes that persuaded him to choose Everton - so he must still be promoting the club positively.

How about at the next match a round of "Cheer up Davey Moyes" from the fans - the old Monkees song that Man City / Sunderland fans used to sing to Peter Reid?

I wouldn’t lose any sleep if Moyes did walk or was even pushed. Only problem i’d have is who would replace him? With Kenwright in charge anything’s possible. Bryan Robson anyone?

As far as the press conference on Everton TV & I think on the Telegraph website I’d agree with you, but after the Pompy game he seemed back to his old self, highlighting some positives in what I believe was an unlucky scoreline.

I think some of us are over-reacting to what was probably the result of a few late nights and just a bad day. We don’t know that before the camera’s started rolling DM didn’t ask that he not be asked about new signings because he wasn’t able to talk about them.

If it happens again I’d think about getting concerned, but for now, as long as he knuckles down and sorts the results out, and doesn’t suffer another dummy spitting interview, I’d go away and concern ourselves with something worth concerning ourselves with, like how long it’s gonna take before an England manager realises you can’t play the English out of position.

Let's not forget that it is around a year ago near enough to the week his mum passed away. Who knows how this is affecting him.

John, a spot a post, the dummy has well and truly been thrown out the pram, Moyes has known throughout the off season what he has available to spend, ffs go and spend it.
If he is as unhappy with the situation as he looks, then be a man and resign, the current body language he portrays is currently reflected on the field of play.

I agree with the sentiments of this article, but if Moyes was coming out all positive about the situation and our recent performances we’d be accusing him of not understanding how serious things are and of misleading the supporters.

Moyes gets flak for defending Kenwright and the club hierarchy and then he gets flak for coming out and admitting all is not well.

It must be extremely hard to be motivated when the club you work for is an absolute joke. That said, hearing him say we are not in the condition to win matches is alarming.

Personally I think he is ready to walk.

Very well put - as a manager I know from personal experience that a sulking employee achieves the exact opposite of what he/she wants to achieve. However, I also recognise as an EFC fan of many decades, the frustration Davey is showing.

As I’ve said in many summer posts, I’m waiting till Tuesday morning to assess the situation - but BK needs to do a bit of ’Lazarus raising’ to turn this one around!!!!

With the Celtic fand already at Strachan’s neck - I fear a certain scenario taking shape that will do us no good whatsoever! Brian Hamilton or Bobby Gould anyone? LOL

Personally I would love to see Micky Adams take over the reigns at Goodison should Moyes go.

Usually the ones in the office that do leave keep their cards close to their heart. They hand in their resignation and are off in a week/month. No fuss at all. It’s those the moan and moan and moan that are actually indecisive. They talk the talk but don’t walk the walk (Johnny Cash song?nevermind). There’s around 24 hours to go and I think he will be able to decide by then.

Moyes may have changed his mind since 2002, when he spoke of the need of quality to take us to the next level (Carling Semi defeat). Can’t he change his mind? It would be silly to be so stubborn. It’s like a conference team winning the FA Cup. Romantic, but all love stories are heartbreaking at the end.

There is nothing ?perceptive? about this. It is just another excuse to have a go at David Moyes. Now he is to be criticised because he?s not a good liar. Apparently he should be saying to all Evertonians who may have thought otherwise ?No, what ever it may look like we haven?t been scrabbling round ?last minute dot com searching for anything left on the shelf. These are exactly the players I had in mind when I gave the chairman my shopping list at the end of the last season. Just wait till we get our hands on the Sky 4 with these improvements to the squad.?

For myself, I thank him for his honest heart felt realistic response. It made me realise that there was no need to waste my time on the Moutinho?s on Merseyside stories and that the truth of the matter was that we did not need to sell to buy, we needed to sell and we could not buy. I?ve had enough of optimistic papering over the cracks, of ridiculous rumours which the club are happy to let fester so as to delude supporters into a hope that there is a gilt edged signing on the way.

Moyes will of course get the best out of the new arrivals ? he nearly always does ? and will get on with the job without complaint and shoulder the blame for things which are not his fault. But he should be forgiven ? and indeed praised ? for providing a moment of realism, sincerity and honesty in a season of misinformation and deception. David Moyes is far from being flawless, but this I promise you ? you?ll miss him when he?d gone. Sadly I fear we all will, sooner than we think.

How about this for a nightmare scenario? Moyes walks because he’s finally realised all Kenwright’s promises aren’t worth a light. No decent manager worth his salt would dream of coming in, so Bullshit Billy hands the job on a player manager basis to Phil Neville. Why else would a 31 year old be given a 4 year deal???

DM has done a trendous job at efc and long may that continue. BUT he needs to be promoting a positive approach. not sulking. Tell the players and supporters "We have a BIG opportunity to show how good you are and how brilliant I am". Yes push and push hard for what you want but don't sulk. Head up and be positive. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Ditch the suit and brown shoes ? it's track suit time.
