Last Chance Saloon, Bill!

Comments (31)

I write this with only 22 hours to go to one of the most important deadlines in recent years. If we don't pull a rather big creative midfield rabbit out of our rather tight hat, I think we are rather 'buggered' (to excuse the vernacular!).

I fear our team morale/spirit will not recover... our great manager will understandably walk... and we'll be in Bust-Bust mode (let along Boom-Bust mode)!

At the start of the summer I extolled the board to 'Carpe Diem' (i.e. seize the day!) . Sadly we have 'let it all slip away'. Well done, Bill ? If the Kings Dock wasn't a classic example of a wasted opportunity, this summer has been a real doozey!

To paraphrase the Boss ? 'It's hard to be an Evertonian in the City' this summer! Any small change from the 'Magic Tour' Bruce? Stallone clearly hasn't brought in much via his friends!

I wonder with the departure of Wyness and the sale of McFadden, Johnson, departure of Stubbs, Carsley, Wessels, Fernandes, Gravesen and looking for cheap player's to sign, after a good season... Are we bankrupt? Does anyone have an idea what happened with Wyness ?

After the summer from hell the supporters and players need a lift. I fear we may not have the finances to get the calibre of player we need (we all know the one we want). If we can’t get the top quality players we still need bodies otherwise come next year the fade we saw at the end of last season will look small in comparison. Its make or break time.

If we don’t pull anything off heads answers are needed and heads may role.

I for one will welcome the relief come the next 20 odds hours. This summer’s events have been surreal.

Does anyone know where Moyes and Kenwright are right now? Surely some taboids must be tailgating them. Lisbon? (or is it Faro?) Newcastle? Or under some bomb shelter? See you all after the dust settles tomorrow!

Someone mentioned Wyness there in a previous comment. He more than anyone took MOST of the blame for our situation over DK and everything else that’s wrong.
I now believe that Mr Wyness was doing the job he was given to do at Everton rather well, stabilising finances and sorting out in that area. He was making the necessary moves and doing the unpopular things in order to get us on a sound financial footing, bearing in mind the road we’d already travelled very far down.
He’s "agreed" to maintain a silence over his decision to leave, and not for HIS benefit it would seem.
I don’t believe the creator of our present, undeniably atrocious situation, has left the club at all.

To correct the title of this post.

Today is ’Last chance saloon, Everton football club as we currently know it’

If it goes well, we MAY just have a chance of mid table and some cup success, if it goes badly we begin a slide that may be unstoppable. And it certainly won’t be under the stewardship of Moyes with another five year plan.

Be under no illusions otherwise.

Rob i’m sorry but i beg to differ.

Saturday we shipped three goals at home against a side that has just lost a few key players themselves like Muntari.

The last two times we played Portsmouth at home we have scored three goals past them and won. This time we shipped three and lost. That’s a six goal swing in one season.

Still think we have ’stayed at the same level’ do you?

Richard Dodd...
Give us the low-down on the signings today
How’s it going? Sweating yet? Still as sure of the top quality signings as you were last week?
Still certain that Bill isn’t doing a Captain Smith in the N Atlantic?
Sorry to point at you Doddy but you deserve it for inflicting yourself upon the readership; you set yourself up, with your ridiculous optimism/wind-ups, hints at insider knowledge and Pollyanna bleatings, as Defender of the Board
However, as agreed, I will be delighted to wear a facial omelette in the morning if you turn out to be right but it’s not looking like I’ll have to
Things are grim on the ’pushing-on’ front

Rob Wilkinson (or should I call you Bubbles the goldfish with a memory span like yours)

If you can, cast you rmind back to the last third of last year when we struggled to put a run together and it was only our good start that kept us where we where.

Our form in the last third was more relegation standard and this has continued into this season.

And to answer your question then yes I believe that it is possible for a team to finish 5th and then be relegated the next.

Listen to what our manager says and I quote ’ we are not ready to win a Premier league game’.

If that doesn’t frighten the hell out of you then it sure does me and many others.

The sooner Bullshitter Bill fucks off the better

Maybe it should be you thinking. before you open your mouth

After all it is better to keep quiet and let people only think you are a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it!!

Now hang on everyone, Im as anxious as most Evertonians currently are but I think its important to keep in mind that we were in an even worse situation heading into the 04/05 season. Im not suggesting we will attain Champion’s League status by next May or anything but based on the evidence of what our great club has achieved in recent years, I suspect the very worsed we can honestly expect from this season is a repeat of 05/06 (finishing midtable, disapointment in Europe) and Im basing this on the premise that we will not be signing JM or any other midfield general. If we do get Joao or someone of that ilk then I think we’ll do just fine and indeed push on.
The international break has come at a great time for us, with the following two week interlude the new signings and the overall squad has the opportunity to gel, Tiny Tim and the rest of the sick ward get a fortnight closer to match fitness and its not like we have a trip to Old Trafford awaiting us on our first day back.
In closing, have a bit of faith in our club!

COYB!!!!

Neil,
The sad thing is the missed opportunity to build on the solid 2/3 of last season

I felt we had a real chance of fruitful progress IF we could improve the quality in midfield particularly. That’s even considering the improvement in the teams around us

For whatever reasons - will we ever know the truth? - the opportunity seems to have gone. That is shameful but, sadly, not without precedent for our club.

I think Moyes has lost the dressing room. He’s got young players playing and others playing out of position and if that’s not tough enough for them to deal with at this time, he’s coming out saying we’re not ready to win a Premier League match at the moment and Kenwright sets his target for the team at the beginning of the season by saying we need money to get into the top four, which is probably true, but he couldn’t have said it at a more inconvenient time right before the start of the season. What kind of impact can this have had on the players? The team’s morale must be shattered, what kind of pathetic manager would come out and say his team aren’t ready to win a game? What a fool! It sounds like Moyes has given up already and if thats the kind of attitude he’s going to have this season he can do one, because its going to have a negative effect on the players. He doesn’t deserve his new fat contract acting like this or maybe the reason he hasn’t signed a new contract is because we can’t afford to offer him a new contract! I wouldn’t be surprised!

Agree with all that Phil.

Whatever ’the truth’ may be, the cold facts are that since Fiorentina we have been on a slide that has been somehow, and unbelievably, accelerated since the summer recess. I mean, three whole months to improve and look at us!!

And Rob, no-one enjoys not being upbeat but look at the facts for gods sake man. Three goals at home against a side that hadn’t scored a SINGLE league goal for OVER EIGHT AND A HALF HOURS!!

Fingers crossed for the day ahead. COYB.

Rob

Hiding heads in the sand and ignoring that on current form (ie last third of last season and first three games of this) we are in bottom quarter of league and in danger of relegation is the sure sign of a foolish act.

We can’t ignore this fact - something must be done to halt this appalling slide before it is too late

I, and many others including our manager (who surely has more football nous than all of us on this thread put together), are really concerned for our future - to call anyone who recognises this a ’slash my wrists im an everton fan ’ truly idiotic.

Who on earth would want to join a club on the verge of relegation who are too tight to buy one decent player instead buying scap heap rejects clubs want to throw in a waste dump, serves them right! This club is honestly the laughing stock of football, there a complete joke after reading this link below -Moyes, who checked on Everton?s UEFA Cup opponents Standard Liege last night, is now facing a race against the clock to bring in new arrivals before midnight.

A deal for Newcastle?s Alan Smith could yet be resurrected. And dont defend moyes, because he was way over ambitious with what he had to offer with cash to clubs. And what happend to the magnificant 6 or 7 new faces? Honestly the guy is full of shit, the tight ass deserves whats happend to him, i just feel for the die hard fans.

I still think we’ll sign one or two but they won’t be the proven players we are after.

Owen and Smith are about our limit at the moment and even they might prove to be beyond us.

The only big signing we can make is Moutinho. He’s made his bed about wanting to come to us so if we offer enough cash it can happen. But will we offer enough cash? I think not.

The comments made by Moyes and our failure to sign any decent players must now confirm to every Evertonian that we are truly skint. The sale of Johnson and McFadden were both obviously done to balance the books.

All summer BK has lied and lied and lied again to his manager and the fans. There is surely no defence left for this bullshitter and surely nowhere for him to hide. Even the likes of Dodd must now admit what utter crap our chairman is and how he has provided us with a false dawn only to take us back to the dark ages. And for those who think we’ll be okay, did you see us get spanked at home to 2 average sides? Imagine what a decent side will do to us.

On the contrary Steve, I do care - very much. I just think that writing nonsensical threats to somebody who is unlikely to read them is a bit of a waste of time.

P.S. It is a waste of time to write on this site as though you were writing directly to Bill Kenwright as he is unlikely to visit the site in the first place, let alone this thread.

P.P.S. I don’t know whether David Moyes reads the site either.

P.P.P.S. If either of them did, then i would hope that they are not today as there’s a lot of work to do!

depressed. kenwright out. He has taken us as far as he can. He simply does not have the money. Man City taken over twice in a year by different investors. They are out there so sell up and save yourself all the grief. Only at Everton. Best position in years to build and we f*ck it up. I think Moyes has a lot to answer for. We won’t sign Saha either. I bet he’s failed his medical. How long can it take? Hoping I am wrong

And apparently Obinna has been refused a work permit.
