Transfer Deadline Day

Comments (28)

Well, here we are, the day we have all been waiting for (or dreading):

  • The Moutinho 'Will he, won't he?' saga ends one way or another today.
  • Alan Smith will either delight, upset or not affect two sets of supporters today with the stroke of a fountain pen.
  • Will Sean Davis finally sign for Everton years after his failed medical?
  • Can David Moyes and BK restore some trust in the way they have conducted themselves over the summer by surprising us all with a massive deal to turn our frowns upside down?
  • Will we add another little known name to our books again with another loan deal or two?
  • Will Louis Saha perform a miracle and pass his medical or will will sign him regardless just to add another name to our tiny squad list?
Today is make or break for us. I pray for a miracle. God speed Blues!

According to the OS, the Obinna deal has fallen through. Not good.

Well, 12 hours to go and that's it... It's better than Christmas!

The fat man in the red suit will have been. Will he or won't he bring us the presents we so much desire? Somehow though, I don't think there'll be any PS3 or Wii for us this year, I reckon it's another tangerine and sixpence (showing my age there) for us. With the time difference here IT IS just like Christmas here in Perth, Western Australia. Sneaking up in the middle of the night and switching on the computer to see if he has brought us any magical gifts.

A question before I go. If you buy someone today, do you have to cram in the medical before midnight or if they turn out to a be a dud... do you get a refund? If you don't it sure seems a crazy way to take a punt on someone. COYB

No Obinna..just gets worse
He’d have been gift-wrapped and personally delivered by the Employment Dept (Work Permits Section) if Utd, Lpool wanted him

Obinna binned. Bah! I see that Moyes, Kenright and Harrison were there. They’d better be doing a bit more business whilst they are all in the Big Smoke. And Stoke have had a bid accepted for Ledley. I guess that’s another phantom £5m bid from Everton then.

Its amazing how many young brazilian, argentinian, colombian or whatever can be signed for other clubs, then of course we ask and it gets flat out refused! I know im just being paranoid here. I think the Sean Davis rumour could be true with Harry coming out saying he will have to sell someone, if so, then lets just hope he puts in performances like he did on saturday!

It is my first day back in the office after a week off, and instead of knuckling down properly and catching up, I find myself checking the official site, BBC, Sky Sports etc. in a borderline-obsessive fashion expecting there to be some announcements shortly (and by announcements I don't mean speculation or rumours).

I'm a big fan of Moyes ? the less said about Kenright the better ? and am generally an optimistic Evertonian who tends to steer away from scaremongering, so haven't obsessed over the lack of transfer activity all summer. But I find myself glued to it today... Why???

  • We haven't signed anyone of any significance all summer; why will that change today?
  • We are talking about loan signings and 1 year contracts for questionable players; why am I holding out for sudden REAL signings of quality players that actually cost money? (Do we have any money? - different subject, I know)
The behaviour of the club this close-season has given me no reason to remain optimistic - but I am still obsessing. Would anyone be suprised if midnight came and went without a sniff of an anouncement ? ? no Saha, no Smith, no Obinna... and certainly no Mouthino ? because I would not.

I am an optimistic person by nature, so I am confused at my current mental state ? is it pessimism or realism? Time to close the web-browser and get on with my life I think!

Stu Gore, Everton bid £3 million a few months back for Ledley but Cardiff wouldnt sell for that. Maybe Moyes doent think he is worth more than 3. Never really seen him play personally.

Richard Woods is a CB i believe! why would we want yet another CB Brian?

We need to just pay up the money Sporting want for Moutinho, although I think thats dead in the water, Moutinho has been named in Sportings squad for a match tonight.

if anybody thinks that Moutinho was ever a viable option then they are naive.

Moutinho was and always will be the smokescreen. The player that we "tried" so hard for. But in the end we spent the money on 4 or 5 players that we would’ve spent on one.

Moutinho to Everton? Pull the other one, it’s got bells on....

Last years postion was the blip.....

This year we’ll end up right down at the bottom of the shite heap again. It’s only Kenwright and Moyes’ own fault though.

So if BK, DM and Dave Harrison all went to the work permit appeal there was absolutely no intention of signing anyone else was there?

Very disappointing all we really actually need is a defensive midfielder. Mountinho was only ever a pipe dream as he should be playing for one of the champions elite, which sadly I now know we will never become.

Get out the club Kenwright and carry on with your stage shows and let a business man take over and run it like a business as opposed to the comical stage show you have made it.

Even if we have zero money, which it looks like we don’t, the quality, quantity and belatedness of the freebies we have brought in is unacceptable, irrelevant of ANY external circumstances.

We deserve an explanation of who and what has gone wrong here.

We had a stronger squad at the end of last season.. Very poor, EFC; embarrassing.

I’ll tell you what happened. We borrowed the cash off Earl to buy Yakubu last year. Now he wants it back, leaving us with Geoff all to spend on new signings.

What a joke, the whole of the footballing community are laughing at us.

Im really losing all confidence in us signing any one before the deadline! with just over seven hours to go were just hearing nothing with regards to bids, links to players that were genuinely interested in, i mean whats going on, the silence is deafening!! i just hope to god that all this silence and no noises coming out of Goodison is due to the fact that Moyesy and Kenwright are as busy as chuff working on deals but im not holding my breath!!!!

Just wondering, how long is it OK to have ’Breaking News’ up on the official site ? Every time I refresh that thing I think we’ve got a new signing
