What Do We Need?

Comments (41)

A Goalkeeper. When Do We Need Him? We Don't!

So, we have confirmed the signing of Saha to add to three other players that have cost us precisely naff all. Weren't we told before the window opened that we had £20m to spend before the considerations of £5.5m for MacFadden and circa £13m for Johnson. Add the reduction in large salaries that departed there and with Stubbs, Carsley, Wessels, et al and we should healthily be looking at a total of £40m to spend... shouldn't we?

Moutinho looks to be a no go and, to be honest, even if he were to arrive it would be ridiculous to put that amount of pressure to save a whole squad on any one player's shoulders. What is the incentive for any quality player to come to a team that cannot secure their manager, or even stay suitably safe from the danger zone after the first few games? I know, we are only three games in and I am being a doom monger but there is very good cause. No disrespect intended to any of the three teams we have faced so far as they are all solid enough but (possibly with the exception of Pompey) they are not teams we should feel threatened by and are not going to scare any of the 'Sky Four'.

We have some excellent players who just seem to be sapped of all enthusiasm and spirit and, let's face it, who can blame them? Any Billy Numbnuts knows that we are in a desperate state with depleted numbers from an already perilously small squad and what do we get when we need midfield and striker reinforcements? A new 'keeper! What is it with Moyes' obsession with them? Is Iain Turner not a solid understudy? What about John Ruddy? Both were supposed to be the next international No 1 for their respective countries of Scotland and England. We shouldn't be surprised that they haven't flourished though considering our track record.

Paul Gerrard, Steve Simonsen and Richard Wright were all going to be the next England No 1 and commanded good prices but failed to shine even in a club jersey, let alone on the international stage. Let's face it, we should stop wasting the money we clearly do not have on goalkeepers and replace the eminently likable but clearly incapable Chris Woods with the inimitable Big Nev.

Either that, or let Blue Bill continue fiddling with his train set whilst we watch Goodison burn and the likes of Manchester City find incredibly wealthy new owners to railroad the transfer of pretty much whomever they want. I never thought I would find myself being jealous of a Manchester City fan. Again, no disrespect is intended to them but how are they more attractive than us? I suspect the answer lies in the boardroom.

What about Stephen Appiah? He is a free agent. A central midfielder, excellent quality.....am i missing something? In my own limited opinion i think he is good enough to wear the navy blue jersey? Can we sign him please?
Maybe we should become like Ebbsfleet and be a fan owned club, we couldn’t do much worse than the current administration can we?
It’s clear we have no money, i don’t believe for one second any of the big money offers were genuine, i would be happy for the club to prove me wrong.
Though as rumours go i wouldn’t believe your radio till they are officially on the website in the blue of the club....so yes Stephen Appiah please I would like him to sign for Everton, what say you??

Mark, surely you mean ROYAL blue jersey?!?!?!

This pre-season has been an absolute farce from start to finish. Luckily for me I now feel somewhat de-sensitised to it all and am able to chuckle a little bit at the crazy goings on.

No-one can deny the Bullsh1tter than Bill is, but one thing he said is absolutely spot on: "we’ll do our transfer dealings the Everton way". This summer has been done the Everton way and then some!

Sorry yes you’re quite right my mistake.....cheers Billy.

It is a farce, in fact all appears a bit carry on....all we need is Kenneth Williams showing up shouting ’infamy, infamy they all have....etc....’ or maybe that is Kenwright in disguise?

Mark, I have been praying we sign Appiah ever since the last world cup. I feel like he could be the defensive midfielder we’ve been looking for. He has excellent distribution and is a commanding presence in the center. Unfortunately he has his heart set on a move back to Juventus and is in no hurry to commit anywhere else while that is still an option:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Mark, but Appiah has stated that his preferred destination is Juventus, so we’re going to have to look elsewhere.

I maybe wrong here, but if Appiah is a free agent, his signing wont be limited to the transfer deadline.
Just when we think its all going to end one way or another, this one could actually roll on for a further day or two. Thinking about it, from his personal point of view as a decent midfielder he could soon become in high demand by clubs that miss out on the one they wanted?!
Fingers crossed for Moutinho, or A.N Other big signing to boost morale.

According to the echo website, Nash looks like the only deadline day signing for us.

We should have kept AJ and Carsley.

We’re in big trouble.

Something has happened and I feel Moyes will walk before the transfer window closes... Its a guess but there no flight left in his face, after what has happened this summer. He looks like a man with the world on his shoilders, I feel sorry for the man as he’s done well for us in the last couple of seasons.

Clearly Moyes doesn’t have faith in either Ruddy and especially Turner. Why does he continue to keep them at the club. Ruddy’s still young so I can see him staying, but Turner can’t really be classed as a young player anymore, and probably fetch us up to 500K if we sold him. If the rumour about Nash is true, then why isn’t Turner being shipped out to get us some much needed cash.

He?s had a few emergency loan deals in his last two clubs, Wigan and Stoke...

He can?t be coming to Everton can he?? He?s looks old on pics on Google and he?s Wigan's third choice and was second choice at Stoke...

It?s now turned 5pm, the end of what is considered to be the working day, and what do we have to show for it? A failed tribunal, the confirmed signing of an injury prone striker (on a free), and the possible signing of 35 yr old keeper who is no less than third choice at Wigan.

We have less than 7 hours to save our season, and quite possibly our Premier League status, safe in the knowledge that there will be no last minute ?world class? signings, or worse still, any signings that actually involve a cash transaction. We have not only been left behind by the BIG 4 this summer, it now looks increasingly likely that the likes of Man City, Spurs, Aston Villa, Boro and perhaps one or two others will also move ahead of us, and leave us competing with the likes of West Ham, Blackburn and Sunderland aiming for 10th spot.

As things currently stand, 10th place would be an achievement, as if is likely that Moyes walks and others like Arteta, Yakubu, Lescott & Cahill follow, it is safe to say that we will be fighting amongst the dead men for our Premier League survival. Somebody please wake me up and tell me this all just a bad dream.

2. Bill’s keeping anything we have for the white hope/elephant of Kirkby

Our great club is a joke, the laughing stock of the premier league for our transfer policy. 3 years hard work blown up in 3 months. We are skint we must be its the only explanation. Moyes looks like a beaten man and i expect his resignation soon. Big Sam will get the job while Billy Liar is on the fone 24 hours a day trying to get the investment most other clubs can attract.

Surely there is no one out there now that can defend Kenwright’s regime anymore?

How can a club finish 5th and qualify for euro football in the toughest league in the world and then not spend a penny on strengthening the squad for the next season?

We need to organise a bloody riot next home match - it is an absolute disgrace.

You know every year its guaranteed that - being the lazy bastard that I am - I rush around town at 4:30 on Xmas Eve spending 3 times as much money on shite presents I know people won?t want - but its fookin Christmas so I also know you have to buy them something...

i think that's gonna be the case for Everton tonight buying a load of shite we don't need, well Moyes has done it before and actually got lucky once with a pair of slippers (Nigel Martyn) that was well used before the heels fell off.

... And just like Xmas the window will pass and we?ll all settle down and quickly forget what crap you got bought as it turned out a lot of other people wasted shitloads of cash on expensive food blenders that never see the light of day from the back of the cupboard,

So my advice - sit back, enjoy the sprouts and remember to smile and say how fucking great your new Carlo Nash socks are - ?they?re just what I needed grandad - brilliant!?

this might rub people up the wrong way but i firmly believe we need a midfielder who takes no messin,or maybe 2 midfields like that.
that is why i believe alan smith and joey barton would bring serious fight, quality, and strength in depth to our club.is there a central pair that would battle as much as them?even if at some point we replace one of them for the return of cahill but until we have players fit i think these 2 would be ideal and instil fight into the rest of the team.

See your point there Scott Mason, only would signing Joey Barton possibly bring a little too much ’fight’ to our team? ;-) I’m hoping we can sign that Standard Liege midfelder (Fellaini), as they looked a very decent side and we could be in some trouble against them considering our defensive frailities at the moment! What about a raid on Metalist Kharkiv’s squad also, they had some good technical players? Albeit a bit late now sadly. Here’s hoping we pick up anyway, if we can ship 3 goals against Portsmouth and Blackburn at home we are looking like certain whipping boys for the big-4!!!

I’m pretty sure we’re still in the market and I won’t lose hope of another signing (or two) until the club or, rather, DM, comes out and says "that’s all folks". DM has a track record of stating when the wallet’s shut and he hasn’t done so yet. Let’s hope he has a good ’un in his sights and that he bags him, or even a brace (we can but dream).
