What were we expecting?

Bids for Kaka? Ronaldinho? Riquelme? This transfer window activity (or lack of) is nothing out of the ordinary. Historically we have never signed in bulk or held ransom to crazy prices. We're very good at plugging gaps on the cheap (starting from back in the day with Marcus Bent). We have done just that - Carlo Nash plugs that gap of reserve goalkeeper. Castillo plugs the gap of defensive midfielder (although we may see one more signing there). Jacobsen plugs the gap of backup right defender. Saha plugs the gap of backup striker.

That's it. Overall zero dollars spent. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe we ARE skint. Maybe we are saving up for a real big signing. In any case I'm just glad that the window is closed. Now at least Moyes can concentrate on the football.

He (and consequently the entire team) has appeared very distracted this season so far. Now they can build some sort of tactic - one that doesn't rely on poor Rodwell.

Fellaini for sixteen million to Everton

BRUSSELS - Standard closed yesterday in the final hours of the transfer window the most expensive Belgian transfer ever.
FOOTBALL

It was vice-president Luciano D?Onofrio himself from Standard last night that the transfer of Marouane Fellaini arranged. After a first, even though very high, Everton bid was still afgewimpeld, The Toffees were there even more and eventually took a crazy bid of sixteen million euro on the strong midfielder.

That is one of the most expensive transfer verpulvering ever for a Belgian. D?Onofrio in London quickly reached an agreement yesterday and at ten o?clock at night Fellaini left the Red Devils to a allerijl to fly to England and there is a contract for five years to sign.

"It?s all okay: Marouane signs for five years and Standard gets sixteen million euros," said Christophe Henrotay, the manager of Fellaini. Yesterday at midnight, the closing of the international transfer window, had the official documents are signed.

So it was a race against the clock. But there has already been heavily Standard some experience. The fact that the club wanted to contribute to the transfer of Fellaini is hardly surprising. The annual budget of the landskampioen amounts to 21 million euros: there is now just a slap 75 percent.

Fellaini left this weekend at Standard uitschijnen still want to continue, but now do both the player and the club financially gold case.

From England, there was already interest from Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa and last year even though Manchester United. Manager David Moyes Everton on Sunday saw Fellaini still working with Standard against Roeselare. Moyes was also Schiervelde to Standard scouten as a future opponent. On september 18 and October 2 plays Everton at the Rouches in the first round of the Uefacup. Fellaini is not speelgerechtigd for those matches because he already played in the Standard preliminary round of the Champions League against Liverpool, Everton of the stadsrivaal.

Everton state after three Matchday seventeenth in twenty teams in the Premier League with three points. Yesterday was even though the French spits Louis Saha (30) Manchester United won as reinforcement. The flankaanvaller Nigerian Victor Obinna, who would be hired from Inter, had no work permit. Also, last-minute offers for Stephen Hunt (Reading) and Henrik Larsson (Helsingborgs, ex-Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United) did not transfer. When Everton played with the Nigerian Joseph Yobo already an ex-player from Standard.

Fellaini, 21 november 22, broke two years ago by suddenly Standard under Johan Boskamp upon him by injuries of others gave a chance. Fellaini, which the youth recently played at Anderlecht, was immediately impressed with his strength and gait. The Moroccan Belgian was rapidly fixed value at the Red Devils. (gdv, blah)

Since endured and witnessed the highs alows, many lows and some highs in recent times. supporting this club is like a roller coaster ride : your up one minute and your down the next.
Just as you think we?re gonna kick on from the last two years of fantastic finishes in the league all the hard work is undone, so many answers to so many questions need answering wouldn?t know where to start.

But one thing is for certain - we aren't going to finish 5th in the League this season. It's my opinion but the gulf has just widened even further with Portsmouth, Villa, Man City, Spurs all well ahead of us now in squad quality, money etc.

In answer to Nigel. No I wasn’t expecting Kaka, Ronaldhino, Riquelme, or any other world-class player. What I was expecting was some top quality players or at least one. What I’ve recieved is a crocked foward and a 34 year old has been goalkeeper on transfer deadline day. Sorry, but not good enough. This club is a joke. I do however, reserve judgment on the unknown players we’ve bought as I know nothing about them.

I think I’m gutted so far because after the highs of last season, I honestly believed we were a club moving foward and this year we’d signone or two well known quality players to just help us push for forth. Instead, last season already seems like that will be the best we’ll have in years as take two steps back. Please prove me wrong Everton. I will gladly hold my hands up and say I was wrong to be so depressed and whingy if we do manage to finish the season on a high

This is sounding promising. Translated loosely from Standard’s official site:-

"Marouane Fellaini was transferred to the FC Everton. It signed a 5 year old contract. The contacts were in hand since more d’ one week and they concretized this September 1 in extreme cases extreme of this day of transfers. Marouane Fellaini will not play the 1st tower of UEFA Cup in accordance with the payment of this one. Marouane Fellaini wished to thank the Standard for Liege for the formation qu’ it received with the club and the respect which the club always testified to him. It will always keep the club in its heart and thanks these supporters particularly. Its only regret at the time to cross this step: not to have been able to obtain the qualification of the Standard in Champion’ S League."

News from Standard Liege?s Website

Translation: Fellani is transferred to Everton fc, he?s signed a 5 year contract, the talks have been done for a week now but only pushed through at the very last minute of the transfer window.

He won?t be available for the first round of the uefa cup for his new club.

He?d like to thank Liege for their training which he enjoyed The club and supporters will always be in his heart etc etc thanks for their support.
Only minus point was his inability to help them qualify for the champions league.

No surprise that with an accountant Liverpool supporting background, our new CEO has failed to spend / invest in any new worthwhile talent. No disrespect to those guys who have chosen to join us, but where oh where is the quality that we were promised?

Do any of you feel just a bit foolish now?

MF looks like he fills the most important positional gap.

He’s a record signing.

Of course they were going to make it as painful as possible for us because that’s part of our collective DNA.

With him, Timmy and Peanuts back we’ll be OK.

Don’t feel foolish at all. When the deadline was done we hadn’t signed anyone really worth noting.

If we would've signed Obinna from Inter Milan along with what i believe will be great signings in Saha and Fellaini then surely it would've been one of the greatest transfer windows in Everton FC's history.

Now I know we didn't but I honestly believe it wasn't through want of trying. I now believe it will spur the rest of the lads on to have another good season and maybe, just maybe we will buy again in January. Now come on Davey, get that contract signed so we can all forget about this long horrible summer.
