Gosh, why is there no balance? We lurch from supreme pessimism to supreme optimism with little chance for anything sensible in-between.
Moyes always but always introduces his new players slowly. Do you really, really think that he would put THREE new players straight into the starting line-up? Unheard of!
Then there's the question of their fitness / match-readiness... And finally, the tricky Krøldrup-type question: will they actually fit in effectively to play Engolish Football?
Realism, eh? It's a killer!
These are the types of articles that I love for their optimism.
Sur Jo, I agree with MK - Moyes will not introduce 3 new players in the 1st game.
I personally think it will be: Baines in place of Castillo and Vaughan for Saha (at least initially). Even so, it is a damn good line-up. The back 4 looks strong, the mid-field looks MUCH better, and the front-line is not half bad, IMO.
We need to start getting results starting with Stoke, and who knows, we may yet have a decent season.
Remember, we have Cahill, Pienaar, etc to come back from injury.
I don’t think it’s unlikely that all three could see a start.
Remember, we’ve got two full weeks of training before Stoke, and besides that what better team to experiment against than a relegation favorite? (Who are 2 spots above us in the table, I know)
I think the line up will be more like this:
Howard
Neville Yobo Jagielka LEscott
Castillo
arteta, Osman, Fellani, Baines
Yakubu
I think your right Sur Jo, Moyes will play all three. He normally waits so long to introduce a new signing you feel he’s wasted half the transfer cost, but this is different, needs must, Baxter and Rodwell have to be rested before we damage them any further
I cant help but chuckle at some of the comments I read on here, for years the people who dont understand the game have been saying Carsley is shite but rejoice that it cost us 15 million to replace him.
Lets hope others lessons have been learned, the Jag has to be fucked off out of midfield and played at center half, Lescots a terrific player but has shown on several occassions he doesnt have the concentration to play center half, get him out to left back
we wont suddenly turn into an exciting winning champions league team, but I feel the bare minimum signings we have made may well mean we’ve already seen rock bottom
Fellaini at 6’4’ should start to quieten the "we have no height in midfield" brigade! I too have been very worried about our lack of activity this summer but imagine how Moyes has been feeling. I think it is unfair to the man to have so many liabilous comments about him. Yes, he didn’t retain Carsley on a 2 year deal that would have seen him become a squad / bit part player but he was approaching 35 and at the time of Carsley leaving wasn’t Moyes under the impression that he would have significant funds to strengthen? For me Nash is an experienced sub that will play Carling games. Right back has been a problem for a while. Hibbert and Neville have awful distribution and playing a centre half there is not the answer either. No-one has even seen Jacobsen play so who can comment? Castillo on a season loan makes sense. See if a South American can cut it in the Premiership before a permanent deal. Didn’t Masherano and Tevez have deals at West Ham like that? Most South Americans struggle over here. Look at all the one Man City have had and gone recentley. Saha. If he can stay injury free then we have one hell of a player. Quick, both feet and heading. Positional play is good. All the traits of a classic number 9 who I think will be a great foil for the Yak. Now the window is closed and the (almost) 2 week international break is here we should now EXPECT Moyes to sign his improved deal. No more excuses about working with my players, transfers to sort out. If i was on 20K a week and someone waved 60K a week for signing a piece of paper i would cut my finger to sign it in blood! A new 5 year contract and if we sack him we have got to pay massive compensation to him! One winner. If he is clever he will insist on a clause if one of Europes big clubs comes knocking he is allowed to speak to them. Unfortunaly Blue Bill will never be able to back the man to live with the mans ambitions. Imagine how Moyes will react if he has to go though another summer like this one next year.
Saha wont be in as he is injured and is four maybe five weeks away from being fit.
Ah well he can go on the lash with Shandy Andy.
Sorry about that got of post. Been on my chest for a while!!
Stoke Game.
Howard
Jacobsen Yobo Jags Lescott
Arteta Fellaini Castillo Baines
Saha Yakubu
Nash Neville Gosling Rodwell Osman Vaughan Anichebe
Lescott Captain
Not sure Saha will play at all, would love him to do a Peter Reid and prove me wrong, but I dont expect him to suddenly have long injury free periods - by the way how thorough was his medical if he has a calf injury ?
I still expect Moyes will play Jacobsen, to let Neville recieve proper treatment.
Castillo and Fellaini have to replace the youngsters
SAHA WONT START. HES STILL GT A KNOCK OSMA WILL PLAY
I’m all for a bit of optimism and I’m really looking forward to seeing the new guys play. But does anybody actually know that much about Castillo and Fellaini apart from the stats that they have read on Wikipedia?
We have to go 4-4-2 against Stoke. Width with Arteta and Baines. Solid in the middle. Strength with last seasons back 5 and 2 strikers. Must score goals against teams like Stoke. We are already starting to look at a bad goal difference. Sorry about putting Saha in my line-up. Thought if he had passed his medical that he must have been fit. If not Saha then i would go for Vaughan with the Yak.
I think Moyes has it in him to get the best out of all of his signings, im not too worried that we dont know much about them because thats when Moyes often has his biggest success stories. Felliani looks class and if he and Castillo make the centre midfield their own, then we finally have some real presence and power in there! Now its time to forget this summer and window (though maybe not forgive it just yet) and get behind what could be a very strong team! COYB!!
Dont forget lads the next two weeks are international weeks and Felliani wont even join us until a week Friday - 2 days before Stoke.
Dont know the Ecuador fixtures but Castillo also probably away .
Saha is injured , so I suspect next two weeks wil be training with our current squad of 10 + 10 academy players
Christ the fúckin night!
Why do people insist on suggesting we play players out of position..
baines has shown what he can do in the left wing position ...and now people either wanna move him to the bench (and play lescott out of position) or move him into midfield...
the mind boggles at times..
but then again, we could have had the ’quality not quantity signing of stephen fúckin hunt.....to add to the third best midfielder from liege.
5million net spend. Utter bóllocks.
3rd best midfielder from liege Ciaran???
what have you been watchin lad?
what have i been watchin?
er....its called football.
What I think Fellaini will give us that Carsley couldn’t is the opportunity to play 2 up front comfortably. Fellaini is a giant, young, quick, strong and 6’4". Carsley was magic at protecting the back four but that was it (apart from the occasional screamer from 20+ yards). When all fit a midfield of Piennar, Arteta, Cahill and Fellaini with Osman and Castillo as back up will do for me.
ciaran, smartarse comment there.
You obviously dont understand what your watchin if you think fellaini is the 3rd best midfielder at liege
Lets hope these next two weeks DM can sort out contact, get players fit and lets start our season, only negative BK !
Talking of optimism; didn’t we take 10,000, turned it into a home game and win the league the last time we played at Stoke?
Ciaran
On the subject of Lescott at left back that allows Jagielka to move back in to his best position in central defence resuming a back four that did so consistently well last season.
In my view Lescott is the best left back at the club and playing there he will be less exposed than of late wilst he gets through his dip in form.
Fellaini produced 2 excellent displays against the RS and for me was the best Liege player on view. Your view on him is a bit premature - lets give the lad a chance and see what he does for us - like the other new signings.
Sounds to me like you have a bit of a shitty on after yesterday.
we all have our views mostly aimed at Bill Kenwright where it belongs not at our new players who deserve our unreserved support as does Joleon Lescott (Saturday's boo boys take note).

Add Tim Cahill to those teams he?s back in full training and in fact has been for a couple of days! 2 weeks training and the fact he is a natural athlete and would have been keeping fairly fit on a bike etc i think he will be on the bench etc great news.. he has his faults yes but he scores vital goals and gives 100% a welcome return.
