Hello SKY FIVE!

Goodbye to 5th Place - Hello SKY FIVE! Well... if you were awake into the small hours with only Sky Sports News for company then you'll know where I'm coming from.

Was it just me or did the final day of the transfer window leave you utterly gutted ? not so much at our lack of activity ? but at the fact that the Sky Four became the Sky Five thanks to a rich Arabian doctor...

Add to this the lack of any real exciting signings for us, Spurs, Villa etc means the gulf at the top of the league is set to broaden further - I could see the Prem being a carbon copy of the SPL within a couple of years.

Although they only managed one signing last night (Robinho!!!) just think what will happen in January... Berbatov's signing was almost a side-note on SSN last night as they we're going (understandibly) crazy over the events over at City.

For me this means one thing - 15 Premier League teams will be fighting for one European spot from now on; unless an oil rich investor looking for a new toy happens upon us.

Still hate the idea of DK??? I can't help but think that if we had our flash new stadium we may have been a more attractivbe proposition than City given our superior trophy cabinet and European pedigree. Although I am a Southern Evertonian, I have always been in favour of redeveloping Goodison (Although DK would have been easier for me to get too) but the events of yesterday really highlight what is needed to attract investment.

While I think Blue Bill and his rotund former mate Mr Wyness have done a hell of a lot wrong, I think this shows that the general idea of a new state of the art stadium (even if it is out of town) would have lead to future stability for the club.

NB: The stadium design for DK and the fact that a Tesco would be sat on it were both total crap in my opinion however!!! and the lies we have obviously been told are unforgivable.

In summary I think Blue Bill had a decent enough idea of what was required to get some real investment for the club. Unfortunately the execution of this has been embarrasing for all of us.

I hate seeing teams come in and buy the title overnight but I wouldn't be gutted to have seen us sign the likes of Robinho from under thew noses of Chelski on deadline day...

It is Sky 4 unless UEFA have changed the rules allowing 5 CL places. I welcome the new challenger(s) and most interested in what would become of Liverpool or Arsenal not making top4, and/or ManU, Chelsea not winning the league. Those laden with debt, how long would they hold out without winning/CL income? Interesting times..

While we were all sitting in front of our TV screens or frantically hitting the F5 key on our PC until the early hours of this morning we could be forgiven for not fully appreciating the effects of other events taking place around us. A fifth ?porker? has entered the pig sty, but unfortunately the trough is only big enough for four snouts. One little piggie is about to thrown out of the enclosure.

That is to say that Manchester City will undoubtedly replace one of the clubs who have for so long considered themselves to be untouchable. One of the clubs will be removed from the ?gravy train? that is the Champions League.

Looking at the clubs concerned I would suspect that ManU and Chelsea (unless their owner walks away) would be relatively safe which would leave either Arsenal or our ?near neighbours? as the sacrificial lamb (pig). Whichever club was removed from the ?elite? group could (would) end up in severe financial crisis.

But where does this leave our beloved club? Well if anyone still had thoughts of breaking into the ?Sky4? then this is no longer a possibility (even if it was after our summer of inactivity), but even a 5th place Premier League position becomes almost impossible unless one of ?the 5? ends up destroying itself.

We may have to accept that our chances of ?moving to the next level? have disappeared for some time to come...

The new found wealth of Manchester City might have the knock on effect of depriving one ’big four’ club a Champions League place... and who might that be?

Our loveable neighbours from across the park perhaps?. And if they don’t qualify for the Champions League spot for a couple of seasons then the whole deck of cards that is their shaky financial well being might collapse... now wouldn’t that be nice?

Personally, I’ve not completely given up on us breaking the top four... that would be nicer

I suppose ths will generate the question as to why Man City attracts investment and not Everton. new stadium? I doubt it - I think that for investors who are not all that clued up on English football the "Manchester" is the tipping point - Man Utd is not available, what about Man City? I bet that if we had been Liverpool City across the road from Liverpool United (or whatever) we would have attracted investment ages ago. In other words, Man Utd has made "manchester" a brand and Man City are riding on their coat tails. Everton has nothing in common with any of the top teams for someone who doesn’t know the game.

It will always be 4 because thats where all the cash goes, a couple of season outside the champions league places for Arsenal or Liverpool and they will become one of the rest of us! Platini needs to sort this out 1 way or another with some new rules, like he suggested that only financially well run clubs to be allowed in the champions league (I know that rules us out)!

Jim. Yes SSN was depressing last night but i am not sure we are going to get a SKY 5. This Man City takeover has put more presure on Liverpool and Arsenal, One of these could end up missing out on the champions league, they both have loads of dept, in Liverpool’s case they could be going into financial meltdown in January when the £ 350 Million loan has to be paid back. The likelyhood is that the one that misses out on Champions league could drop like a stone below ourselves, Spurs, Villa, Pompey etc. This will just shake up the mix and there will be further investment in other clubs in the future. As far as DK is concerned there is probably some truth in the theory that the call in has put off investors, causing short term cash problems but you will never convince me that edge of town is better than inner city when it commes to filling the stadium, and increasing demand for corporate hospitality with resulting improvements to income.

If City did clinch 4th spot it does not mean they will automatically enter CL , remember the team who wins the CL has to defend the trophy.

If either Arsenal or Liverpool look like ending up outside the top 4 you can bet your bottom dollar that they will play weakened teams in the PL and go all out for that CL trophy.

City in Europe due to fair play league hmmmm...what that about refs favouring the Sky boys?

How on earth are you differentiating between the dull predictability of the Premiership and the SPL?

Competetive English football only died a little more yesterday. Not even Liverpool going bust will rejuvinate it for me.

I dont think it died a little more. Man City may have just been put in the running for top honours, probably not this season but they should build up over the next couple! I believe this season should prove exciting, with the emergence of Man City, Spurs and Villa spending a fair amount and ourselves with a little bit of luck, should be pushing them too mainly due to the class we already had. I just hope that someone can push all the way and knock the shite out of the comfort zone, lets see how long Torres sticks around.

I don’t understand how BK has been out searching for investment and has managed to miss out the entire Oil Rich Middle east region. I though city didn’t own the stadium, and that the council owned it so i can’t see how the stadium issue would be a problem.

City won’t get anywhere near the top four with their defence. Poor players like Ball, Dunne etc don’t suddenly become good players because of the investment money.

Despite the money man shitty will still struggle to break into the top 4 as they don’t at present have the quality of the other teams above them. Silly money alone does not mean success as Newcastle and Spurs prove year on year.

City will be battling it out with the rest of us for 5th imo it might change next year though.

Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim says he wants to buy Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres among others in the January transfer window!

I figure he is just trying to bait up the top four... and I think it will work. As a consequence I can see the "top 4" being clawed back instead of peeling away.

I can see them (top4) losing a record number of games this year with no gaurentees in results.

This will of course make me feel ALOT better with losing to Blackburn and Pompey.

If Chelsea can buy the Premiership then City can surely buy themselves into the top 4. Consequently one (maybe more) of the Chelsea, Arsenal or RS will underachieve!

Fingers crossed eh folks!

Liverpool being pushed out of the SKY4 will only accelarate their eventual takover by DIC and lead to an enormous middle eastern smith v jones battle between city and the shite.

This will not change the appalling leadership at EFC Limited who I would sooner focus on. We need a complete overhaul corporate and marketing at the club regardless of any small or large investment within the current ownership.

Brian Egan - FFS, do you see Dunne, Ball etc there this time next year? NO neither do I.

How can this happen when Bill has been looking 24/7.

I alo agree thatManchester is a brand thanks to the Man U/Beckham effect. - just look at Twaty Deansgate.

To be honest the start reality of City now attracting there 2nd Billionaire, is just too hard to swallow. We must somehow attract a new owenr, I fucking hate the present one.

I can see Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim flexing his finacial muscles in January..can you imagine...Ronaldo? Sure, here’s £120m...the Glaziers would snap his hand off, as would the Shites’ owners if a similar amount were offered for Torres. I heard earlier today, in an effort to illustrate his vast wealth, that if the price of a barrel of oil rises by $1, his wealth increases by £250m. A day.
This may be of some amusement to a neutral observer but it can only have a detrimental effect on Everton. Their will be one fewer Uefa place to fight over.......and NEXT season City will be going places.

You have to laugh at SWP though eh? Joined Man City and thought he would be playing regulary again only to find that the club gets taken over and he’s back on the bench behind Ronaldo and Robhino ect...!!! Im sure he will hold the record one day for winning more tropies than games played in!!!

The thing I dont get is none of the current top 4 is making a profit, go figure huh!

I think the earlier comments are right: there will not be 5 big clubs because it is only Champions League income that can maintian a club at that level, even with a shiek board.

Tycoons don’t invest in clubs because they are fans, but either for ego trips (Chelsea / Man City) or because they think it is a good investmnet (Liverpool, Man Utd). Owning a club that isn’t in the CL meets neither of these criteria so the tycoon walks away and buys a Formula 1 team instead, leaving the club in the shit.

Therefore either Man City break into the top 4 and chuck another club out, or new owners investment hits the road. And, very sadly, of the Sky 4 clubs, it looks like Liverpool are the most likely to drop out - of the current Sky 4 they have the worst team, most debt, and dodgyist owners! what a sahme!

I see according to sky sports that new billionaire at Man City is already bragging about offering £135 million for Ronaldo in January

"Ronaldo has said he wants to play for the biggest club in the world, so we will see in January if he is serious," Al-Fahim said in The Guardian.
"Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160million (£90m) but for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more; I would think $240million (£135m). But why not? We are going to be the biggest club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United."
He also states that he wants to bring in a minimum 18 new players in January. Sure does look like another case of someone wanting to buy their way to the top.
It does sadden me though that he stated that he looked at buying Liverpool, Arsenal etc but no mention of Everton (are we really that much of a poor prospect? even to a man who is 10 times richer that Red Rom?)

Don’t believe he would have wanted EFC. With Man City he buys a club with the city name and less debt.
It is bad news and a dark day for the EPL. The top four which will now include Man City will now go from strength to strength and the rest will fall apart. Either Liverpool or Arsenal should be the most worried because their days as numbered unless they can find a similar investor. Soon we will be in a situation where there are many wealthy clubs and no enough world class players to go around. Then it will get interesting!

Just wondering what all the conspiracy theorists think about the City takeover ?What will happen to the Sky 4 once they have no CL?? If what the new owners are saying is true, than one of the Sky 4 are surely going to be removed from their perch, and face the consequences of not having the riches of the Champions League.

It destroys our chances of breaking the top 4 but what will happen to Liverpool or Arsenal should they not qualify??
