Moyes has to sign now

Comments (28)

Ok so after the highs and even greater lows of the last two months (the only high coming this morning when I read we had spent money), we can now start to settle into this season. The first thing that has to be done however is Moyes has to sign now while we have two weeks off. He needs to do this to settle the team, the new players and the fans. He has two weeks to get things right...

In my opinion, if this has not been done by the time we line up to play Stoke, then Mr Moyes has to be shown the door. I am not ridding Kenwright of the blame for what has happened, I am simply saying that Moyes has not helped.

Let my put this into perspective. Let's say Mikel Arteta was in the last year of his contract and had not put pen to paper, people would be on here telling him were to go and we would be wanting as much cash as we could get for him now. The exact same applies now.

From the team point of view. How are the team meant to look ahead when the manager is not certain to be there next season? Even if it had been true that Mouthino was in Merseyside at the weekend, who could blame him for not sighing the contract when his boss' future is in doubt?

So my point in this that Moyes must sign now to put everything at ease, and on the plus side if he does then we can all nicely throw our abuse at Kenwright come Wednesday night.

No matter how much Newcastle make me laugh out loud, they may just snip moyes away... who knows?

Keegan being sacked is worrying news guys.

A chief bookie from ladbrookes was being interviewed and he said his money was on Moyes to take the job at 6/1.

Let's pray he signs this contract

Apparently the betting on Moyes to be the next Manager at St James Park has shortened the odds dramatically in the last hour. Maybe not such a silly season after all.

If Keegan has left over the Geordies transfer policy which appeared to be sell before you buy, I can’t see DM jumping from the fire pan into the fire. At least I hope not! Sign your contract now DM!!! NUFC can have their true messiah back - Big Sam or Gerrard Houllier.

Come on lads,

Surely things are great at Everton. But Newcastle. It’s the poisened chalice. Surely not even a fool would want that job.

Shaun.
The Problem i have with your statement is this.
The Everton job was a poison chalice when Moyes took it over.
The man has balls and may well see it as a challenge.
I sincerely hope not. But football is a funny old game.

Keegan was pissed off cos he was promised cash and never got it. Sounds similar to Moyes and Everton, and Mike Ashley has less of an excuse than BK, we know BK aint got much cash but Ashleys a billionaire!! The tight bastard. On the other hand, most of Moyes’ past transfer targets already play at Newcastle so he might consider it his dream team. :0)

Dave Lynch, I wouldnt say Everton was a poisoned chalice before Moyes came, we were just shite and had a load of old players and no money! The problem with Newcastle is for some reason, the fans expect them to be at the top of the english game (despite never being there before) and they usually throw lots of money at useless players. Moyes would never be afforded 6 years to turn Newcastle around and he’d need double that!

Sorry Dan.
Don’t necassarily agree mate. Reckon Keegan never got cash cos he asked for extortionate amounts, and let’s face it he is a shit manager.
We have for the past god knows how long lived in the shadow of the RS, thats what i meant by poison chalice.
Lot of talent at NUFC, just needs to be channled.
Personally i’m fearfull of this situation.
We still have a fair amount of ageing players and no money

I think you’re a little off the mark saying we still have lots of ageing players (unless you mean it literally, we are all ageing) Dave. The average age of our squad is very healthy. Anyways, you are right about Keegan being crap, but I personally think Wise will get the job, save Ashley some cash.

If anyone seriously thinks Moyes would take the Newcastle job, then, you must also think the man is daft. For crying out load Newcastle are in the shit worse than us. FFS wake up people.

Davey’s no fool, and if he took the Newcastle job, given the presence of Wise and the reluctance of Ashley to bank roll the club too much more - he’d be the biggest fool of them all.

Moyes is a far superior manager to Keegan, whatever his occasional faults, but it’s THE poisoned chalice of the English football world (coming to Everton was not the same - we had no money, no expectations and no confidence - anything he did was bound to be an improvement for the club!)

However, I do agree with the central premise of the original post stating it’s time to sign the contract or walk away. He’s either sufficiently happy with what he’s got this time from Bill to put the experiences of this summer behind him and move on (like we all need to do), or he remains fundamentally unhappy and comes clean on any betrayal he has suffered. Sulking for the rest of the season is not an option.

I personally think he’ll sign and stay shortly, and I for one will be very pleased if he does.

"You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone..." Too right Joni.

Davey you can tell in his body language he isn’t happy at the moment. I will be surprised if he does sign his contract. I don’t think he is on his way to the barcodes but he is seeing his resume starting to get damaged so if we don’t spring for another one of his wants in the winter window I don’t see him here after next year tbh.

Maybe rumours of KK’s imminent demise at the hands of the Barcodes’ suits, which were surely swirling around at higher level last night, persuaded BK to shell out £15m as an act of faith to retain DM’s services. Unless his relationship with BK is beyond repair, I’d be very surprised if DM left for Skunkland. He couldn’t work with Wise (who bloody could?) and as Ashley wants out, the beloved Top Skunk is not going to shell out zillions on severance pay for the current lot plus mega-moolah for DM and his new staff, in addition to money for Cahill, Lescott, Arteta etc in the January window. Having said that, a statement from Moyes and EFC, individually and collectively, stating DM has no intention of waving to the Gallowgate from the centre of the park in the near future wouldn’t go amiss.

Mike Burgess,

"everything points that way" ??!!

What, after Moyes made a last ditch flight to Belgium to break the clubs transfer record for the third successive summer ? Really ?

It’s been a dismal summer, but if you think Moyes will walk away now, you must be crackers. If he was going to do it, he would have done so weeks ago. For the life of me, i cannot begin to understand how you come up with a hair-brained theory that he’ll be gone in few weeks.

He won’t . He’ll sign his contract in the enxt week.

You seem to forget Ashley approached Kenwright about Moyes’ availability before; then it was all covered up.

Like everyone else I sincerely hope it doesn’t happen, but don’t bet your house on it. Money talks.

well, NUFC with a chairman who promised the earth and delivered nothing (Ashley) could be compared with Bill, BUT Kenwright has shown loyalty to Moyes during the bad times.

Moyes is a decent man - no way he’d work for a fat, back-stabbing prat like Ashley (just my own opinion) and who would want to work with that tw@t Wise (again my own opinion).

I feel sorry for Kev and the BarCodes, they have it worse than us. Ashley - what a complete c*** (everyones opinion).

Steve,

You don’t think Moyes has had offers from elsewhere before ?

I’m so confident that he won’t walk that I will, indeed, bet my house on it.

I can’ t think of one single reason why Moyes would swap us for them.

Add Tim Cahill to those teams he’s back in full training and in fact has been for a couple of days! 2 weeks training and the fact he is a natural athlete and would have been keeping fairly fit on a bike etc i think he will be on the bench etc great news.. he has his faults yes but he scores vital goals and gives 100% a welcome return.

Latest on SSN is that Keegan hasn’t been sacked (via official statement from Newcastle).

I heard whisperings from a ’reliable source’ that Gus Poyet is being lined up for the job.

it will be a rolling contract with an initial period of 4 years....

All this talk about how Davie MUST sign his contract now, for the good of the team .... is just so much utter crap.

Davie, more than anyone at Goodison, deserves to be able to negotiate the best terms and conditions of his employment, and if that takes time then so be it!

He’ll sign, when it’s right for HIM to sign!
