I've given up...

Comments (12)

...with Everton, with football... I'm done, finished, bored even.

Other than Man Utd, not one team can break even ? let alone make any money. It's not a game where different teams can win, it's a game where whoever has the biggest pockets rule and I'm sick of it.

I have followed Everton for 25 years and didn't think I'd ever feel this low. All Evertonians ever moan about is getting a billionaire owner ? to do what exactly? Spend huge then, when they get bored, the club goes under, like what will happen at City and Chelsea. Overpaid and average players thinking they are gods? I've had enough; at least in other sports there is a chance of change, in football there isn't, unless we sell our souls and get a suger daddy owner.

Nope, thanks for the memories but I'm off, I'll fill my time watching amateurs kick lumps out of each other and watch rugby league where the wage cap at least means everyone is on same playing field.

It wasn't that long ago that different teams won the league and every season brought with it the chance to potentially win something, this without the need for £100m worth of new players.

Thanks, ToffeeWeb, and goodbye... my final rant is over and I feel like a weight has been lifted. All that is left to do is click submit and I'm done. Ya know, it's a lot easier than I thought it was gonna be...

So how do you reckon we’ll go against Stoke then?
You can’t just walk away, they’re in your blood.

Actually, Keith, he can.

I reckon he’s not alone in feeling that way.

At thr sik of incurring the wrath of my fellow Evertonians, I’ll admit there’s many a time I’ve wondered recently exactly what the point of modern football is exactly when 95% of the teams can’t win a thing. They start the season eyeing off fifth place, maybe fourth..not top. Fifth.

Us, Villa, Abu City, Portsmouth, Spurs, Blackburn we might, if we’re lucky, finish fith. For God’s sake, what is that?? And which ever club finishes "best of the rest" will probably fall about 25 points shy of the eventual champions. Fifth. Big deal. You win nothing for it. No one cares when the history is written.

The point of modern football is to make money. Nothing else. The players are out for it and the clubs are too and it’s distorted the game beyond belief.

The champion’s league is largely to blame. Four clubs from one league, what a joke! So are the Uber-wealthy owners who are tipping not millions, but hundreds of millions of pounds into clubs.

You know, when sportsman talk about retirement they often say when you start to think about it, it’s time to go. I’ve thought about giving up supporting Everton often, and instead, just watching the caricature that’s become football as a neutral.

Anyway, I didn’t want to rant so I’ll stop. But I wanted to wish Simon well. Hope he finds happiness and joy in making his decision. I reckon, one day I’ll be joining him.

Good luck Simon!

Hey Simon,

If you ever come back to read this - I do understand what you mean as I am also becoming disillusioned and sharing the pain. Football, and Premier League particularly, has become so artificial nowadays - it is just a billionaire?s playground indeed. Premier League is almost just about money nowadays and there is no more a prospect that the minnows are going to challenge the big fish.

Nil pecunia nisi optimum ...sigh.

Cheers,
Ant

Sobering stuff Simon

When I read that last sentence I could have sworn I heard a hundred clicks, not just on Toffeeweb but on its counterparts up and down the country, maybe it’ll be a thousand next week

The Geordies are taking to the streets.

While some Hammers maybe happy, all decent football people are horrified at their managers treatment

RS look on helpless, 40 years of running the club properly is about to be dismissed by the wave of an Arab chequebook -

Spurs fans are tearing their hair out, the pay a fortune to fund the wage’s of arrogant overpaid "second tier" players who never seem to make any progress at all

Baggies have to fork out an average of £38 a game FFS

Arsenal have done EVERTYHING you could want your club to do, but can afford no one

Na, its not just Evertonians, people up and down the country are pressing the "I’m out of here" button

Football in England stinks at the moment and the sooner Monsieur Plattini takes a steam cleaner to it and hands it back to the people, the better

I feel the same. I’ve been kept interested because we have been punching above our wieght and its been worth telling my UTD,SCUM and Chelski mates how great we are to do what we do with so little resources whilst silently waiting and hoping for a sugar daddy to come and make everything good again! And then came very dark blue, or should I say sky blue monday!! I like City, always have done and its not without some amusement I have watched my munich mates squirm and explain to me that City will never be as big as them, they dont need to be with £500 million to spend in january and not mortgage payments to meet in the face of dwindling corporate revenues as reported into days Mail. The same article reports that Gillette and Hicks are doing the rounds of London and New York trying to mortgage the SCUM, so its not all doom and gloom is it? Anyway, back to matters in hand. Bill has maintained that his shares have been availible since he bought them! We all know that isnt true. BK is an out and out die hard supporter. This is the problem. Its been proven over and over again that having a fanatical supporter at the helm does not bode well. Whilst we should not forget the state the club was in when BK took over and brought in Moysey, he and the boared have missed ample opportunity to move the club on alot further than has happend. The truth is, BK doesnt want to sell!! He loves owning the club, I think I would in his position and thats the problem. We need a businessman at the helm not a supporter. Whilst I have joined the chorus of fans bemoaning the state of the English game and how football in this country as lost touch with the grass roots supporters and the local community, I secretly yearn for an Abramovich or Dr Abu Dabi to come in and do the same for us! I hear this morning that the worlds sixth richest man - an Indian steel magnate - is flying in to London today with Newcastle UTD at the top of his shopping list, again, I’m envious and cant help asking "Why not US"? I love Everton, I have loved how well we have done in resent times on a shoestring, but I remember not so long ago when we were top dogs and I want it back! If that means selling our souls to compete then I say "come and get us"!!! As disillusioned as I am with the Blues, I could never give up on them. COYB

Simon- spot on mate. I’ve been a Blue for 48 years...since the day I was born- like my father, fathers father etc. I felt the final nail in the coffin came ironically enough on what was a very special day for me- the day my son was born, which also happened to be the 17th birthday of you know who...now happy winning things in a red shirt. I don’t want to go over the whole Rooney saga again but the delays in him signing his contract/the machinations of his scummy agent/the very obvious wooing from the manc scum etc all made me lose heart. I’d already given on England (and I’ve been to 60+ England games here and abroad), and had become heartily sick of the bloated Sky4, tabloid reporting/WAGS/out of town glory hunters etc etc, and the Rooney transfer finished it for me. Everton is in my blood- I can’t get rid of that, but, and this hurts, my game has been stolen from me by money grubbing shysters, I no longer have the heart for the game anymore. Everton can never compete now- and whats more, neither can the vast majority of other clubs. We will have a Eurpoean/World league in all but name within the next 10 years,,,,and I wont be watching it. Rant over....I could say so much more but what’s the point?

Oh ye of little faith, get a grip.

1. Since 1878 Everton have had many ground move problems

2. Since 1878 Everton have faced many challenges, been relegated twice, been unwilling to pay exhorbitant transfer fees (one William Ralph Dean at an inflated price of 3000 pounds!)

3. Since 1878 have probably suffered more European farce-ridden entry failures/refusals than any other club, due to all kinds of ridiculous rules (e.g. Inter Cities Fairs Cup - one club one city rule! 5 year Euro ban after being awarded best fans accolade 1 week earlier)

4. Since 1878 have been "first" in most football achievements - what’s to say they won’t be the first, yet again, to break this monopoly of the Sky 4.

Never mind the frustration, get behind your team - when we win another trophy, which we are more than capable of this year, then the pride that you will feel will have been worth all the shite you’ve had to put up with over all those years, and will also prove to the world that money isn’t everything. Don’t give up, wear your shirt with pride - we ARE Everton, only TRUE football fans will understand and respect that.

You hit a nerve with me Simon. The games gone sour. I agree totally with Paul, Dave, Christopher and Steve. I am so sick of the so called SKy 4 and the posturing poseurs who masquerade as sportsmen but are with the odd exception the worst possible role models. They care little for the clubs they play for and less for the supporters. Money is the God and after 50 years of supporting EFC, spending thousands and travelling the country to do it, like Simon I’m at the end of the road. This is my last season and at best it will be part time. It’s not Everton I’m going to leave cos that’s in my blood but it’s today’s football and specifically the premier league that’s done it for me.

I’m glad I’m not alone then.

Everton are in my blood but I’m fed up of having my weekends ruined by a bunch of millionaire mercenaries who will never care about Everton a hundredth as much as we do. When I see people like Phil Neville making obscene amounts of money (from us) for no talent whatsoever then I find it hard to fathom our undying loyalty.

What are we playing for nowadays? To crack the top 4? We’ve done that once and where did it get us?

Football needs salary restrictions, points docking relating to your debt levels, some incentive for fielding home grown talent or something to make it competitive. None of the Sky 4 will ever agree to anything that could diminish their stranglehold on the money.

As long suffering Evertonians, we’re almost being turned into closet Man City fans in some desperate hope that they will force Liverpool out of the Big 4 and we can gain some satisfaction from that. It’s bollocks!

Football has had it!

Simon........... I think there are many many fans across the country who feel the same.

Anyone know if there is a forum / site anywhere that is dedicated to this view and campaigns against this excuse for sport ? for all fans regardless of club?
