Segundo Castillo

Comments (18)

Does anyone know if Segundo Castillo has recieved his international clearance to play for us yet? I didn't see him play for Equador last night and I haven't seen any official news from the club.

WIll we see Castillo pull on the famous royal blue shirt live on Sky next week and if so do we think he will start alongside Fallaini??

This could be a good starting line up :- Howard; Neville (if Fit) / Jacobsen, Yobo, Lescott, Baines; Arteta, Castillo, Fellaini, Osman; Yakubu, Anichebe.

It could all start to come together... let's not forget Saha, Vaughan, Cahill, Pienaar and VDM are all a couple of weeks from returning to action.

The future's bright, the future's BLUE!!!!

I think Yobo is injured. Thats why Yak is captaining the Super Eagles.

Nothing was said about Castillo?s international clearance as yet. He flew through the work permit though as he has played for their national team for years.
Didn?t see him play, though Fellacio got an assist and had a goal ruled out for offside.
Just warming up for Stoke. Cant wait.
Nice to see a positive post mate

I haven?t heard any confirmation, but surely he would have had international clearance by now. I saw a bit of the Ecuador game last and Castillo looks a very strong physical player and made some impressive tackles and blocks to help out the back four. I haven?t seen enough of him yet to know how good his distribution is, but he should be a decent signing hopefully and will give us some much needed physical presence in the middle. My only worry is aren?t Castillo and Fellaini a bit similar to be playing together? I think we could have done with a more creative player to partner either Fellaini or Castillo. If we can get everyone fit, I think the midfield will be Arteta, Fellaini, Osman, Cahill and Pienaar and it will be up to Castillo to prove he?s good enough to get into the team.

I think there was no headline or article on the international clearance as it only makes headlines near deadline as to whether it’s in time for the weekend match. I think we can be confident it was probably received 1st or 2nd September at the very latest. Yobo was indeed injured as i think he’s had a long standing ankle problem.

I trust Moyes in that Castillo and Fellaini are likely to be very good acquisitions. I was desperately disappointed with a player i admire, Osman, who clearly failed to track back with Johnson to let him score in the Pompey game. Hopefully Castillo will settle into the Carsley role as that is the sort of run to be picked up.

OK, with playing an extra player in midfield again we’ll likely revert to one up front, but with a defensive minded player there it should give Osman the chance to support Yak, although the site if Cahill resuming full training is fantastic as i don’t think anyone plays that role better.

Fingers crossed we get these players back, don’t suffer many more injuries and we can start to repair some of the damage done of losing our first two home games against teams i feel we really had to beat to stand any chance at all of finishing in the top 6.

Don’t forget that Fellaini can’t play in Europe until the later rounds, so we’re going to need Castillo for at least 5 or 6 games

I saw most of the Ecuador game, but they were playing against 10 men for all but the first 17 mins of it. Castillo did very little except get booked (harshly), as Bolivia didn’t offer much, although he did look like he could pass a football. His outstanding moment was a beautifully struck 20 yard overhead kick that went straight to the keeper.

He also has a silly pattern shaved into his head and pulls his shorts up too high.

Saw Castillo play last night on sky sports, probably not one of his best games but he did look decent enough, you can definatley tell Moyesy as got him in for the Carsley role, he just sits infront of the back four, hardly ever breaks forward, only time i ever saw him go forward was for corners but he did seem to have more to his game than Carsley did, he looked big, strong and athletic, good in the tackle and could definatley pass a ball long or at short range with accuracy! the main thing for me that makes him different in a better way than Carsley was that when he recieved the ball he did’nt play the way he was facing all the time, in that i mean when we had Carsley right, say if Yobo passed him the ball, Cars would just pass him it straight back or play it to Neville or the other full back wether it be Baines or Lescott but Castillo when he gets the ball he turns on it and looks to play the other midfielders in or looks to put the strikers through on goal and likes to get the game going further up the pitch! as for Fellaini he likes to get about the pitch, hes more of a box to box player, very good at both ends of the pitch, likes to put his foot in at times but also likes to get on end of things too! i think Moyesy could of pulled of a couple of quality signings in these two!!

haha! Aide Dews, I think what you are reffering to is colloqually known as the Lee Carsley "crab"(tm); an innate innabilty to turn anymore than 180 degrees.

With our current injuries does anyone think Moyes will play a centre mid pairing of Castillo and Fellaini for our next game against Stoke. I would hope so, but I can’t see Moyes risking a CM pairing with zero PL experience. I’ve got a feeling he’s going to stick Neville in midfield to "child-mind" either Castillo or Fellaini. Well atleast that beats the thought Moyes sticking with our current line-up (shudders at the thought of Jagielka attempting an ill-advised cryuff turn outside our box)

Castillo is obviously a very physically strong player, and can actually pass the ball short or long.

Last night he didnt quite cut the mustard for me , his role foe Ecuador was to sit in front of their back 4, which he did. The problem was that he didnt mark or pick up anyone who ran past him , he only marked space.
I’m sure Moyes will want him to learn how to mark , pick up players . The other thing Carsley did well was to give orders, dictate to other players - castillo doesnt speak English yet and Moyes wont just throw him in, he have a few weeks to learn how we play.

Felliani will get in first as he has a better all round game and can speak English.

Moyes himself admitted that he?s only seen Castillo on tapes, which I would assume was given to him by his agent (his best bits) he?s definately in the ?wait and see? category.
Can?t be be any worse than Jagielka in that role.
Stoke game I would imagine

Howard
Neville Jagielka Lescott Baines
Castillo
Arteta Fellaini Cahill Osman
Yak
I know its early for Cahill.. but if he's half available he's a whole half better than Rodwell/Jags

It was a very hard game to judge him to be honest, it was at a slow tempo and Bolivia had 10 men for alot of the game. It’s hard to judge players in slow paced games and especially defensive midfielders.

From the glympses I did see he looked decent. He looked as strong as an ox and physically good. He worked hard and he was tidy in possession. Not a play maker by any means but made some nice passes, he set up the pen with a nice through ball.

A funny thing I noticed is he has a weird run, almost Gravesen like running style. That and he had suprisingly big legs, he’s not the tallest but he’s certainly well built.

All in all I’d like to see more, against a better team who play at a higher tempo. I think they play Uruaguay soon, that’ll be alot better to see how he is.

I hope we see him and Fellaini against Stoke, the team needs fresening up and the midfield especially needs an injection of presence, quality and athletisism. Hopefully Moyes throws them both in, I want a settled midfield going into the Derby.

Let’s not forget about Rodwell. I think it’s been overlooked because of Jags’ inability that Rodwell has down a pretty good job. I think Castillo will be competing with him while Fellaini will compete with Osman once the injuries come back.

Even if last nights performance was’nt is best i’d still put Castillo in midfield a head of Neville and Jags and maybe even Rodwell, his tracking of players and marking up was’nt the best looking at last nights game but he could definately play and certainly had an eye for a pass which is more than can be said about two of the other three and even probably Rodwell but he’s only just learning his new midfield role and is still only a kid. i’d throw both Castillo and Fellaini straight in, what have we to lose, we cant honestly keep on picking Jags and Rodwell in center mid or shift Neville in there! Castillo and Fellaini are good midfielders, Fellaini a potentially top player, so why not put them straight in at the deep end and see how good they really are?!!

Once everyones fit I’d like to see this:

Arteta---Fellaini---Osman---Pienaar

That for me has the right balance. Obviously Cahill/Saha and Yakubu would be infront of them in the forward positions.

Moyes said he wants Fellaini to play the box to box role but I think he’s more defensive minded personally and doesn’t offer alot of creativity. Having him and Castillo together wouldn’t be the best way forward, as of now it’s fine with the likes of Pienaar out.

Osman, Pienaar and Arteta obviously provide that passing ability and creativity that’s much needed at home and in European games, it’s needed having someone who can pick a pass in the middle and someone who’s more attacking minded.

For away games Castillo and Fellaini would be very useful, we certainly wouldn’t get bullied. Against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Portsmout they’d also come in handy.

Obviously it’s nice to have options for once, Pienaar and possibly Van der Meyde coming back would give us more options outwide.

I'm a very positive Evertonian but I can't believe that anyone would want to persist with Baines for the Stoke match. He has been far & away our worst performer this season so far. Neville was MotM against Portsmouth and isn't a bad RB although distribution needs to be better. His defending & organisation is solid.

v Stoke:

Howard
Neville, Yobo, Jags, Lescott
Castillo, Rodwell
Arteta, Feillaini, Osman
Yak

When all fit:

Howard
Neville, Yobo, Jags, Lescott
Castillo
Arteta, Feillaini, Piennar
Cahill
Yak

Subs:
Nash, Valente, Baines, Osman, VDM, Vaughan, Saha

Also Baxter, J?witcz, Anichebe, Rodwell etc.. all waiting

Next year I've heard the UEFA Cup is being changed to the Europa Cup (a sort of Champions League style format) that will make the tournament more valuable. The fully fit squad should get us there so fingers crossed we don't miss out once the money starts to come in to the UEFA!

Cheers

John, I disagree, Castillo, Fellaini and Rodwell are all too defensive to be playing together in the middle. We need to be more attacking against teams like Stoke and I think we might be better suited to playing two upfront so the Yak has got support with Fellaini and Castillo sitting in the middle and Osman and Arteta out wide. Vaughan would make their defenders panic and he made a big difference in the away game at West Brom. We really need Pienaar back to give us that extra bit of pace and quality out wide and allow us to move Osman back into the middle to give us more creativity and then we could revert back to 4-5-1 and hopefully Cahill will be back soon. Also, John I agree with you on Baines that we should go back to our back four of last season, he?s not a bad player but we?re conceding more goals with him in defence.

I think it’s a bit harsh to jib leon osman off like some of you’s are!! I know we’re only three games in, but he’s been my player of the season so far. The only who shows he wants the ball and do something with it, and wants to win!! People already casting him off for two players unknown to the premier league!!

Fair point versus Stoke & Hull etc... Anthony. Although i have heard that Feillani is more of an Essien type box to box than a Cars/Makalele type so could be useful still.

Watched the Ecuador game twice just to verify my findings. His role was attacking central-midfielder. Struck me as being very mobile and athletic although some of his play was quite naive. About 50% of the time he would give the ball away as a direct result of a pass or he would get caught in possession. The remainder consisted of short passes or acurate and telling through balls to the front line. (i can see Yak relishing this guy’s involvement). Finally, one part of his game I was impressed with is his tackling. Quite meaty at times, though fare. Pity about the daft haircut. Won’t give too much away suffice to say it’s quite unique. Think of Golf umbrella!
