The BIG question
Comments (13)
I wanted to ask all Evertonian's on ToffeeWeb one question. Perhaps the most important question. Not about players. Not about the ground move or transport links to and from. About our Manager. IMO one of the best manager in the league. Possibly our best asset.
The following is taken from a recent interview given by Phil Neville, our club captain.
"I am really proud that the club has offered me a 4-year contract. I've been here three seasons now and I have to say that I've loved every minute of it. From the outside looking in you don't know what to expect but I found when I came here that the spirit and the togetherness of the club is fantastic.
"Loyalty is a big thing in my life and this is the only club that I want to play for. It's a great club and I want to finish my career here.
"At the end of last season I spoke to the manager, and the chairman and it was quite easy. When you've got two parties who want the same deal and are happy with each other these things only take a couple of hours. I can't understand players who go into negotiations for six months because that tells me that one party involved isn't happy about things. But that wasn't the case with us. It took one meeting and one telephone call and it was as easy as that."
My question: Why is it taking so long for our manager to commit himself to our club?

It is concerning and it speaks volumes, to be honest.
Maybe he spoke with Kenwright in May and said, "Look, Bill, I really need assurances that there’s going to be enough money and early enough for me to improve this squad for next season."
And maybe Bill replied, "Watch this space..."

Ha ha! I thought we were done with baseless rumour and pure speculation. Another false dawn...
Surely it is that Kenwright is unable to give Moyes sufficient assurances that there will be sufficient money available to strengthen the squad? Clearly Bill only just managed to pull some last minute money out of somewhere this summer (as he basically has admitted).
Moyes presided over yet another summer of farcical transfer activity, going for players we were never going to get, not going for players we could have got and then getting players in far too late and you call him our best asset. It’s laughable. When will people wake up to the fact that Moyes isn’t good enough. Keeping the squad together and making a couple of good signings early in the summer couldn’t have been easier but we’ve now had a disastrous start to this season. Just like 3 years ago. Another wasted opportunity. But just keep rolling out the excuses for him. I know you will !
With all the uncertainty at the moment it would be a boost if Dave signed on the dotted line.what confuses me is Moyes himself insisting he will sign. I can under stand if he said something on the lines that I have doubts that I can take this club any further on the current budget and I am waiting for Bill to clarify that this latest fiasco will be the last before I sign. I think the fans and indeed the players should be told what the problem is as if everything is fine he would have signed surely.
The club must be fully aware of all this speculation, and the harmful effect that it’s having. Surely to god there will be some kind of announcement or statement from the club in the next few days.
Waiting so long to sign a contract that has already been agreed to verbally seems rather odd. Something is not right.
I can?t blame Moyes for not signing yet.
He?s spent 6 yrs making us a top 6 team, regularly qualifying for Europe. He now wants to push on again but knows he can?t do that without more funds than what BK can offer. Unless investment is found before next season Moyes will go, could we really blame him?
I agree with Dave Wilson - DM is going nowhere - where is there to go? So we have financial issues. So do all the other clubs in and around us that would potentially be looking for a new manager. Better to be broke with a team that you have built and have led to a position near the top of the pile, than broke with other people?s player choices, no more money, less influence and probably less overall player quality.
Everton is not a great place to be at the minute but it is the best available option for DM. When he does leave it will be because he is sacked one day in the distant future or he will walk mid-season in the future when a genuinely richer big club poaches him.
Not signing gives him more leverage on BK to get off his arse and sort out the finances. Signing a contract now would weaken his position. BK knows that if we lose Moyes we’re buggered. He can’t take the risk of losing the one decent thing he’s managed to do for the club.
I wouldn’t be angry if Moyes left after the summer fiasco. I coudn’t blame him either.
Unless things change financially and we find a rich owner, I’m sure he sees a future of bargain-basement buying on deadline day and stunted progress while richer clubs progress at a quicker rate.
And if he were to leave, what kind of a manager would want to replace him?
Limited funds, disgruntled fanbase, stadium uncertainty, we’re not really an attractive proposition at the mo.....
I like Moyes and feel that he has more to give to the club. It’s such a shame we’ve got no cash to support him....
I honestly can't see him signing. I think he has been bullshitted like the rest of us. Remember all that stuff about money being available and his response. Sounds to me like hes not happy with funds or with having to shoulder some of the blame for a horrible summer. I think he was given assurances and Im not sure he feels assured. Then again as usual its all guess work as Big Chief Bullshitting Bill speaks with forked tongue.
