Neville...

Comments (29)

What on earth was Phil Neville doing on Sky Sports News this morning banging on about the Liverpool vs Man Utd match? I know they would have approached him, but why comment? Does this not get right on anyone else's tits?

There's the small matter of a vitally important game on Sunday that will determine whether or not HIS team is back on track for the remainder of the season.

Do you think prior to the Derby they'll wheel out Wayne Rooney to add his spin on the build-up? No, I didn't think so!

They probably were talking to him about our game. But knowing what Sky are like, they probably cut all of that stuff out (you know the stuff that isn?t about the ?Sky 4) and just play the part of the interview that interests them. The question was probably slipped in at the end as they are the other game on tv this weekend.

Still, I agree he should have not commented. He sould have refused to as it has absolutely nothing to do with him.

Isn?t it a free country? He can say what he likes as far as I?m concerned. Why
do some gobshites come on here slagging him off at every opportunity? As Gareth says, Sky have probably cut the interview to suit themselves. The part concerning us will no doubt be played before the Stoke match.

OK... Gareth and Ray, very good points, absolutely spot-on what you?re saying about Sky?s editing. I?m sure it?s clear from my post that my frustration is as much at Sky as it is at Neville. The point is the public Neville/ManU thing won?t go away will it? Hence my last line re Rooney

What a useless post. media knobs edit out what they want, we all know that. Has the anti-Neville brigade found a new low? He was probably asked what he thought of the Man Utd game and answered it. What was he supposed to answer?
"Erm better not answer that one as TW posters will have my bollocks on a post on Scotty Road as I can?t seem to do anything right in there eyes as I?m obviously shite and I can?t put a pass together (which he can?t normally)."

Phil is media friendly and will talk the hind legs off a horse.

He is a Man U lad, always will be so of course he is going to comment on the team his brother plays for.

He would look more of a twat if he told the interviewer to do one.

None starter this one and I agree with Marc

I seem to remember both Joe Royle and Peter Reid both happy to talk about Everton when they were managers of other clubs. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Pip has won every club medal with United and he’s bound to have a affinity with them. Once he gives his best to Everton on Sunday, it’s irrelevant.

Also remember Big Dunc at Newcastle when a reporter asked him how he felt about losing that day and he answered, "Lost? I thought we won"

Newcastle had lost, Everton won.

Dear God: Neville can’t do right for doing wrong, can he? I look forward to the day when we’ve got a squad of twenty-five lads from Merseyside, or preferably L4, who came through the academy, who’ve had nothing whatsoever to do with any other team. That’ll be grand, won’t it?

Liam R - Love the Big Dunc comment, what a legend. We could certainly do with him in the dressing room and coming off the bench.

As for Phil he is bound to be asked about Man U vs Liverpool. For two reasons: 1, he played for Man U; and 2, he now plays for Everton!!!

The fact is that Phil Neville still thinks of himself as a Manchester Utd player. That’s why they ask him and that’s why he does it. His record against his former club speaks for itself. I think Ferguson has a "gentleman’s agreement’ that we DO play him.

Let's concentrate on how he plays rather than what he says, he?s definitely improving, he hasnt lofted it into the top balcony since. . . The Blackburn game

It gets on my tits too Alec.

P Neville will always be wedded to Man Utd, which is understandable given he spent his formative years there.

As much as his attitude and professionalism are to be commended, I cannot believe he is the captain of our football club.

If Neville was actually a decent player do you think we’d give a shit about the stuff he spouts in the press? It’s because he’s crap that he winds me up so much.

His most memorable moment playing for us was his own goal against Man U at home which handed them the title. Man U legend that fella.

No, Terry Maddock - what it sums up is the pathetic state that Everton FC is in and some fans reflection of it. That is what is shameful!! No amount of deflection can hide what a laughing stock EFC are.

spot on carl - he is a good captain. what is some peoples problem with him? I can understand people having a dig at his footballing ability, although i believe he can do a decent job for us at right back, but why have a go at him whenever he says or does something off the pitch? get off his back and get behind him and the rest of the lads. hes entitled to his opinion about the liverpool manure match, and im sure he can still be just as focused about the stoke game on sunday, despite doing a short interview for sky sports in mid week!!

If you think EFC are a laughing stock why dont you take the short walk. I dont think the club needs you turning up and spouting that kind of comment. Sure if you dont like events fine, but how can a fan pass that off as justifiable.

What a joke of a post. Phil Neville will never be accepted by a large section of fans because he played for Manchester United. True he is not a gifted footballer but his professionalism and application cannot be faulted. I also think he is an excellent captain for the club. He is a right back - no question about it. The fella he dislodged out of that postion is one of the best tackling full backs in the Premiership. Unfortunately Hibbert is also hopeless once he crosses the halfway line into the opposition half. Because he is a local lad most people give him some slack - something Neville will never be afforded.
