Blimey - what a shock, both Castillo and Fellaini make their debuts and are joined by CAHILL STARTING!!!!

Lescott to left back with Jagz in defence and Vic up front with the Yak.

It seems like a bit of a narrow midfield but glad to see Cahill back and Fallaini making his debut. I’d imagine Castillo will still play in a holding role in a 4-1-3-2 formation. Hopefully we just attack attack attack and keep Stoke on the back foot. I’m sure we’ll see Baxter provide some width at some point today coming off the bench. Hopefully Osman’s injury isn’t a long term worry. He missed quite a bit of preseason with a knee injury as well.

Oh sorry, figured everyone watching the game since its the only game on tonight?

I can do a proper commentary if you want.

Also I thought Fellaini came in when it mattered. Using his height and heading the ball out of defence.

No one is near him in the height department and he was winning them all.

Sure he needs more creativity but perhaps that’s more Peanuts and Arteta’s role?

Ok, excited by the line up, but practically it will take a few games to settle.

Castillo looks great in the tackle, short distribution great, longer passes off the mark...promising. Felliani looks strong in the tackle, but a bit off the pace, not really sure of his position...first game though, unfair to judge.

Anichebe isn’t confident playing so wide, I’d get baxter on the wing or commit with Anichebe with Yak.

Stoke don’t have much but we cant give em any silly set pieces, they have height and decent distribution. We need to push and take a few risks for a second, then I can only see us running away from it.

Give the lads a chance, FFS!!

This 11... the bench... together with what ISN’T available should remind everybody that the squad is NOT in a terminal state.

Fellani and Castillo are playing with the team for the first team with ZILCH time to integrate with the squad... Cahill is playing for the first time in six months. Is it any wonder they haven’t altogether gelled... yet?!

Not a great first half, but not a totally hapless one either. Castillo actually looks the better at the moment. Now playing the holding role, looking for the ball, making himself available, tidy in his passing - all on the floor.

Fellani, not looking as though he has got the pace of the game yet, but still has had one or two nice moments.

The goal... first rate. Nice head down by Fellani and good lay-off by Timmy. Great, quick feet and finish by the Yak. And the defence looks so much more solid with the established back four from last season.

We’re winning - fucking enjoy it!!!!

Corner...

Blimey, that was close. Deserved 3 points, given the fact Stoke were of little danger when they actually had the ball (but, admittedly were terrifying whenever Delap got a throw). 2 things:

1. I wish Neville’s long throws were as effective.

2. Why is our defence still so nervy? Was Carsley really that good?

The legendary masochism of being an everton fan!! We deserved that - superior side, but if you give away two goals away from home to any team you are going to rouse the crowd and make it damn hard.

Practically the win gives us confidence and more time to bed down the new players without the tension of being in the bottom three. Every game we should get better - very impressed with Castillo...carbon copy of Carsley almost. Felliani will adjust better to the pace of the game. With peanuts on the left and arteta on the right our balance will improve as well. And as for cahill, skysports statistic about last season...in his 18 games we won 40 points! Goes to show how crucial his goals are.....all after an international mid-week as well!

The sun is out...Everton are winning (who cares if its only Stoke)...its like summer has finally arrived

Im off to lie down!

Deflects it to his right, past the keeper and into the goal.

Nick E - thanks for the link. Worked well for me out here in Catalunya.

Not a good match for the blood pressure, but 3 good points and we would have been slaughtered with our last line-up starting today. We may be back on the up.

And DM said after the game that - with "respect" - he would apologise to the ref if he was wrong when he had seen the replay. Quite rightly, he said the ref should do the same for him if it turned out to be a bad decision. The bastard in the black had already pointed to the spot, then bottled it by running over to the lino.

Respect?

Also watching (as I didn’t look to see b4) Cahill’s celebration.

An Everton supporter (I guess, wasn’t in colours) ran onto the field as he headed towards the flag.

Went to high five him, Cahill, scrambled past to do his punches.

Anyways. The supporter hugs another Everton player (I think Anichebe) before the masses of security lunge on him.

AND I think, Anichebe (if it was him) from what it looks like is trying to tell the security to not be so rough with the guy.

Although I am trying to freeze frame and rewind a very zoomed out angle here.

Still the guy was silly to be on the pitch to start with!

Tim.H. ---- getting feeble these days. Hate his long kick. Maybe the twitching affecting in... some botox?

Lescott --- Looks better at left back. Scary freekick giveaway at the end. but phew.

Jag --- Looks better at center back. Nice header brother.

Yobo --- Calm and composed. no complains.

Phil Nev --- Overlapping well at right back. looks good so far. Perhaps learn a trick from Delap in throwing in.

Castillo --- looks good, getting better as min goes. Only first game.

Maroune --- hmmmm .... poor ball control.. no pace. Good presence in the air though. First game, still early to judget.

Arteta --- Sometimes you love him, sometimes u hate him (esp. delivery). Overall we all love him.

Tim --- His presence always mean something.

Anichebe --- Decent performance.

Yak --- Classy.

Ok.

Looking at Foxtel.

There’s 4 Champ League games on Fox Sports Thursday night.

And one UEFA cup game (teams to be announced) at 4.30am here in Melbourne.

It might be the Everton game, I’ll haveta check closer to the date.

And if so, I’ll have to check with mate if I can go round his place and watch.

Then I’ll use his laptop to I guess commentate for those without the game.

IF not on Foxtel, I’ll stay home and try and find a stream on myp2p.eu to watch it and commentate.

At that time I should really be sleeping and going to work the next day, but guess just an EARLY night the evening before ;)

Howard - 6 - Confidence lacking. But who can blame him with the current pressure abound. And those damn dangerous long throws from a lesser side with a dude with powerful forearms! He’ll get it back!

Neville - 7 - More confidence. Although in the first half looked lost and like he didn’t even know who his own players were (which is forgivable with all the new faces)

Yobo - 9 - Great work. Even under the pressure of breakaways. Feared the worst when the goal went in, but he was brought/pushed down by the opposition so didn’t count!

Jagielka - 7 - Not sure what he coulda done. He either jumps and heads it or his keeper yells at him to leave it. Howard should really be throwing, punching out anything that is coming to him no matter what. In Futsal I kick it at the keeper all the time to see if he’s concerntrating, sometimes it pays off.

Lescott - 7 - Much preferred in the left back position. Which sadly means no place for Bainsey. Had his moments, but didn’t perform to his usual top best. But did well enough.

Fellaini - 7 - He may have bee criticised for his pace and ball skills, but this guy has got HUGE pressure on him at the moment. New in the lineup, biggest signing. HUGE expectations. His height is a definite factor and he won every header.

Castillo - 8 - Great ball control, and with the pressure all seeming to be on his fellow debutant, he excelled and made the passes. Although both he and "Mo" crossed paths in the same position alot, he still held his nerve and did well.

Arteta - 8 - Great kicks, Great corners. I just realised I may be giving everyone an extra score than they all perhaps deserve, since we almost drew the damn game. But we won it and we fought hard, and so did Arteta and we pulled it off.

Cahill - 9 - He let down a little in the first half, looked lost, didn’t quite add up and as he ran back from the back line looked unfit, tubby and out of puff. BUT he means so much more when he’s able to come back after all this time, assist one goal and SAVE the game when it matters!

Anichebe - 6 - Scored a goal, had some decent breakaways and cruelly pulled / tripped over as he made his way forward. But looked nowhere near as dangerous as his counterpart.

Yakubu - 10 - This guy does it all. If no one is pulling their weight back in midfield, you’ll find him making his way back and setting himself up, with a pass to someone else, then getting up forward to kick a goal. When he started he was just a forward. Now he’s a playmaker/striker in one.

SUBS : Won’t bother mentioning. Didn’t really get involved from what I saw.

Overall a good result today, even though it was only Stoke, they will deffo trouble a lot more teams this season. The penalty we should have got today, probalby evened out the mistake by the ref, concerning the dissallowed Fuller goal, the more they showed the replay on Sky, you could see, that Yobo stumbled, not pushed / tripped,so we got away with that. Back into the top half of the table, which makes better viewing. At the end of the day, happy with 3 points, but Moyes has got his work cut out, getting us sorted out at the back, apart from Yobo, the rest looked a little shaky at times.
