Tim... Legend

Comments (33)

Have Everton had a better player in the last 25 years than Tim Cahill? Okay, he might not be the most gifted of players but for effort and commitment give me 11 Tim Cahills any day. When he kisses that badge, you know he means it ? not like the majority of the other pricks. When he puts the blue shirt on, he gives everything and would play with a broken leg. Also I'll never forget when he scored the winner against Millwall, no celebration out of respect ? something another so-called "Once a Blue, Always a Blue" should remeber. Timmy, you'll do for me.

LEGEND, and I reckon he genuinely loves the fans and the club.

Legend! Not our most gifted player but arguably our most important. Also a true blue!

I remember once he was commentating on Sky with Jamie Redknapp, doing the half-time analysis. Liverpool had a dodgy pen given against them. Keys says "That wasn?t a pen was it Tim?" Tim says "I?m a blue so I say that?s a pen". Genius

Tim Cahill is Mr Everton in my book. When he doesn't play we never seem to win. Cahill's goals are priceless and I believe he could easily play at a higher level than we can ever offer. Tim Cahill ? superstar.

LEGEND! nuff said

Second only to David Moyes in my opinion. Shame he is the wrong side of 25 really.

Billy, thanks for reminding me about that penalty incident! I think I will have Cahill printed on my new shirt!

Superb player and top blue. I would make him captain.

You get the feeling with Tim Cahill that whatever sport he played in, he?d be a winner!

He really is a talisman for Everton and Moyes should make him vice captain (who is by the way)? because he is such an inspirational figure for the Blues.

I just hope he manages to stay fit for the rest of the season.

Definetly a legend..Just has such an uncanny almost scary knack of scoring goals and has done ever since he joined us four years ago..You would have thought defences would have learnt how to deal with him over the years but he just gets better and better at being in the right place at the right time.. We could have a genuinly half decent midfield when they all gel together..

Let's hope for another three points at Hull next week. You could say if we draw then 7 points from the first three away games is great takings but one look at October's fixtures suggest we ought to look at beating Hull and one things for sure at least we won't face another bombardment of throw-ins and long balls. Glad we only play at the Brittania once and more than happy we got out with three points.

Potentially a legend, not quite there yet. Cahill, Yakubu, Lescott and Arteta are all potential legends at Everton, hopefully they all stay and claim that tag.

Talisman Tim delivers again! LEGEND!!! Glad to see him back and can't wait to see him play with the Socceroos too!!! He?s defo important for both.

Good effort from the boys in a very tricky game and great to see some passion back in Moyes. Don't think he?ll be going anywhere. Let's hope for more good results from now on.

Well, why not with a broken foot, then?

25 years? So that’s 1983 we’re going back to... erm, he may make it into the top 10 just through the ’talismanic’ role he gives.
Don’t want to get all High Fidelity on the other 9 so don’t ask! :)

Agree with Nick. Timmy is certainly heading in the right direction but not quite a legend yet. If you want to suggest a signing that has made a big difference to the club then he certainly is, as was a midfielder signed with a reputation as being a "crock". I would put him ahead of TC as a legend - for now.

I remember many people wanting him to be transferred a couple of years ago.

Where are they all now?

Good example of a player still willing to work hard and improve even at this stage, he has definitely made himself a better player with the ball at his feet in the last 3 years in particular. He is massive for us, today proved it. What about the Yak too? World class finish again today and excellent all around play as well.

It?s funny how even though he was completely rusty, and nowhere near match fit... he still managed to pop up and win the game for us. He does the same thing for Australia too.

I?ll never forget the World Cup... 1-0 against Japan with 10 mins to go... Tim pops up and scores two goals. LEGEND!

Great to see Timmy back. He is a huge asset for Everton and a legend in Australia. He may not be the most technically gifted midfielder but in terms of heart and being in the right place at the right time to finish, there would be few better in the world. Let's just hope he can stay on the pitch for the rest of the season.

Talismanic, maybe, Legend, not yet, plus any others you might put in.

But the one that comes to my mind is, instinctive, you can?t teach or coach that knack of ? leaving late and getting there early?. He is instinctively committed and competitive, its taught to them through the Aussie system, play to win. Has anybody seen an Aussie team of any code, including cricket, take a backwards step, they might lose but they don?t lie down, you have to work for it..

I cleaned up during the World Cup coz the Aussie internet bookies couldn?t see past Kewell and Viduka. I got 7?s for Tim as top goalscorer. Money for jam.

My favorite player by a mile... I remember reading last year that Cahill?s problem "was that he could only score goals." Aside from whatever comes out of Sarah Palin?s mouth, that might be the dumbest thing I?ve ever heard. Seriously. He is the antithesis of the modern, spoilt brat player. Loves the club and the club loves him back. Legend or not, if Everton NEED a goal, you know where it?s coming from. Enough said!

According to the TV yesterday Tim only played 18 League matches for us last season. I wonder how Liverpool would cope without Gerrard or Man United without Ronaldo for approx 20 matches? Whether or not you think Tim qualifies for "Legend" status - he is one of the best signings Everton have ever made.

"I remember many people wanting him to be transferred a couple of years ago.
Where are they all now?"

One of them would be Timmy's agent, acting on Tims behalf, as I recall? Demanded more money on the back of a new deal cos he?d had a good season??

I think Cahill is great and hope he stays forever but I stopped believing the badge kissers when the Latch, Dobbo, Kingy and co demanded more money in the 80?s for finishing 6th! Rooney was the final straw!

I hate the badge kissing - I?d rather they didn't do that stuff.

Lampard’s badge kissing is vomit inducing, infact anyone at Chelsea doing it is not good. I don’t mind Chelsea, but we all know why those players are there.

He gives Everton what Gerrard gives Liverpool-passion, commitment, desire and goals.Great to have him back, now stay fit and get Pienaar and Osman back and we might get a good result by the time the derby comes around. We just need the luck of getting no new injuries and we’re a good team with everybody fit.

We are a different team when he plays.

Interesting stat from yesterday. In the 18 games he played for us last season we picked up 40 points. In the 20 he didn?t we picked up 25.

For me he is our best player.

Got to admit that I never realised how important he is to the team. I always thought we could manage without him and if he goes I’d be sad but not too much. Yesterday made me realise how important he is to us and he’s a great match winner.

Absolutely spot on. By far our most important player. Severely missed for far too long. Let's hope he stays fit, because if he does, we?ll be climbing the table in no time at all. He gives his all and spurs on others to do the same.

You say hes not the most gifted player, which I agree with to an extent, but what about his unbelievable bicycle kick against Chelsea last season!?!?!? I don't know too many players capable of such brilliance of execution... at least not in our squad!!

Far too early to call him a legend in my opinion. I love him, he’s my favourite player, but he’s only been with us 4 years and he needs to leave his mark on the club by helping us win something. That will cement his place in the history books of Everton FC.
He couldn’t have done much more for us though in his time at the club. Long may it continue...

Any top flight club would be strengthened by him. EFC and Moyes gave him the chance and hasn’t he grabbed it with both hands. He loves this club and we love him - total committment on top of his excellent technique. And that fabulous trick he has of making people think he’s a ’small’ player and therefore no threat in the air. Don’t tell anyone, but he isn’t small, and in any case his timing will beat a ’big one’ any time when it counts.

Legend? Not yet. One of the greats? Getting there. Are we glad he’s back?

Do we need a show of hands?
