Did anyone see Moyes interview on setanta before the game when he was speaking about wide players, the shortage of. He mentioned missing out on one by tribunal??? Unsure what he meant & who it was.

Anyone shed any light, just curious really.

That must have been a reference to the hearing held at the Home Office in which the work permit for Obinna was denied.

I thought that too.

Key jigsaw piece missing in my book that, and such a shame for it to be lost on a technicality.

So is the application dead then or are we allowed to go back in january?

It isn’t over - Inter are pushing from their end - and we could still have him at some point this season.

Try Baines down the left, he was our best player against Pompey. Nothing wrong with his crossing, just needed better anticipation. Cahill would be on the end of a few I'm sure.

Losing out on Obinna on the work permit appeal was a blow, good that Moyes is on to it though.
His success in getting a striker, keeper, right back, two centre mids and nearly a winger was just what we needed I think. Arteta and Pienaar can play wide so we’re now too badly off there, assuming they are available of course! Hopefully Moyes will add depth (with pace in January).
Maybe we’ll have been taken over by then and get Ronaldo in (and pay for a brain transplant for the narky diver bit in him well!)

I have been away for 2 weeks. The day after the transfer window shut the Mirror ran a story saying we had agreed to buy Vagner Love in January... is there any truth in that?

I think Baines should be a left midfielder. Not good enough at left-back for a top 6 side as too small and gets caught out, whereas Lescott much stronger at left-back. Baines however excellent at going forward and can score and create. Will provide some sort of defensive cover in midfield (even more than Arteta, Pienaar, etc) and will stay more on the left flank than come inside (ditto Arteta, Pienaar) and give us width.

According to Setanta Sports on 3rd September, CSKA Moscow came out with a statement saying that the report wasn?t true because they?d received a "more attractive offer" for Love from another un-named team.

Adam,

Have you learnt absolutely nothing from the summer’s transfer window and attendant nonsense? How many players were we "linked" with?? How many of those players finally came??? Go Figure...

Hell, our biggest signing was Big Mo, and we weren’t ever linked with him until the final day, despite the club being "in negotiations for months" with Standard Liege.

Baines in midfield? Have you seen him try to play there - shocking!! It's the only word for it remember Tottenham last season or Blackburn this...

The lads a left back and thats it. Whether he's a good left back or not only a decent run of games will tell...

We actually have a decent wide player. The desperately unlucky AVDM. I think pre-season that he showed that he still has something to offer.

I must be honest though, and admit having a vested interest in seeing him fit and playing. During the summer I posted a defence of him in which I stated that come Cristmas if AVDM had not proved himself to be a genuinely top class player I would happily admit to being a "total wanker who knows fuck all about football". Ffs, get fit soon Andy.
