The price of shirts!?!

Comments (30)

Just looking around on the Everton website, and thought I'd take a look at this season's home top... I almost had a heart attack when I saw the price! £45 for short sleeve and £50 for long. Now I admit I have a memory like a sieve, but I'm sure last season's were £35 ? thats nearly a 29% mark up.

I became curious if this was on a par with other clubs; I checked Fulham, Arsenal and Man Utd... all were £5 cheaper. Now I know a fiver doesn't seem much, but we're the most expensive in the league, and it's not like there's any justification for this. I had all 3 tops last season; I won't be doing that again... Anyone got any ideas why we're so expensive? The Kirkby £78M has got to come from somwhere I guess....

Specially when 5 pound is a lot more in my currency.. Then that’s an even bigger difference! :(

Well we didn’t get Fernandes so I won’t be buying another top this year anyways. Unless we pick him up mid transfer season.

Hopefully the tops will dramatically change next year, to something different to my 06/07 Cahill one :) Then I’ll be interested in getting my next one!

Probably an Arteta or Yakubu or maybe Lescott. Was going to get a Johnson but I guess I was a little slow there.

Mike,
Be glad that you were slow on the Johnson one. I already have a 05-06 Cahill and 07-08 Arteta. I had bought a Johnson one but left it on a beach in Fiji!!! I just hope I?ve made an Everton fan of someone there.
I presume when you?re talking about the currency exchange you?re referring to Australian dollars. I have the same problem. An Aussie dollar only gets you 40 pence most of the time, so it costs an arm and a leg to get any supporter gear from the club. To hear there?s a 10 pound increase is shithouse to say the least. Considering it already costs 20 pound for postage....

Simple answer. Don?t buy one ? it's not compulsory, honest.

If you do buy one.
Don’t be soft enough to get a players name on the back either.
You only look a twat when he’s kissing the badge of another team after being transfered to balance the books or line his already cash stuffed pockets.
Or get your own name on the back.

I could only afford a new youth kit for the lad. I’ll be wearing last season’s. Too expensive. Are we in the CL already?

Dave L: or get Dixie Dean as name on the back, I’m thinking of that for some time now.

Everton and shirts will never be a great combination, we’re not the barcodes.

The last time I bought a shirt I thought I won’t get one again till we win something... so the 95 Danke shirt is still my latest.
Thing is though, no shirt since has looked better since.
And why no collars any more?
That’s why I liked Fulham staying up, they were a one team crusade to bring them back.

Cahill was a safe bet for me when I got a player name on the back ;)

Until he moves to A-League when finishes up playing in England.

Personally, I wear my lucky pullover to the match.

Its got MY name on it, on a little label insde the collar, written in magic marker, just in case I leave it somewhere. I think my gran knitted it.

You really don?t have to buy some UMBRO endorsed crap manufactured for 50p by Vietnamese street urchins for a bowl of rice a day. Give your 40 quid to something deserving.

The training tops are always a good alternative. They’re only £20 - £25 and look good. Better than the away kit anyway.

Plus, it doesn’t matter when the club bring out new kits next year as not many people notice if you’re wearing last season’s training top!

I paid over 60 pound for my Everton top with Cahill on the back when I was in Oz, only for some Korean kid in my hostel to nick it off the washing line. Cheers pal.

The only thing I have merchandise-wise connected to the club is a gold ring that I have had for 15 years, and a t-shirt with St Domingos on it. Would not buy anything now.

Nick i thought the one-2-one shirt was the best we had personally.

Dave, I have to agree with the player names. The last time I had one printed I picked Ferguson thinking he’ll not go anywhere, and he went to the barcodes 3 months later!
Don’t want to jinx any other players...

In answer to your shirt problems. Why not get a shirt made with a legends name on it? i.e Dixie Dean, Tommy Lawton, Alex Young, Alan Ball and so on. I’m sure it would be much cheaper than the club one and last a lifetime. History doesn’t change. Who knows it may create a new trend in sports attire.

,,,,,,and I wear my lucky pants, so why are we conceding so many goals ? Perhaps our defence should be wearing lucky pullovers and pants for every game :0)

Might not be ethical but I picked up one on e-bay direct from Thailand or wherever. Looked just like the authentic. Even had an official looking little plastic Umbro badge near the lower hem. Cahill 17 on the back. $10 plus $6 postage. They don’t always have the Everton shirts though. Need to be a serious Top4 force to get that kind of recognition. COYB Keep up the spirit.

There’s nothing more embarassing than a middle aged man in a replica shirt.

Do we really want to look like Newcastle fans?

Show some dignity.

Given that the Kit only seems to be " current" for one season I had the idea to wait until the end of the season to buy it.I recall back in March 1997 towards the end of the ’96/97 season I was able to buy the Royal Blue "Danka" shirt for half price. That tactic doesn’t always work though - at the end of last season I saw that the Home shirts were on offer for £15 - but they were sold out of some sizes - including mine - within a couple of days !! Good idea about the players names - I would have my own name or the name of a famous ex player e.g. Alex Young,Derek Temple or Alan Ball. I have a replica late 1920’s early 1930’s shirt home shirt from Toffs - with a number 9 on the back - no need for a player name on nthe back of that !!!

I REALLY think I have jinxed players...
I used to always get my favorite player’s name on the back of the shirt throughout the 90s...
Limpar, Amokachi, Kanchelskis, Barmby (!!) - and they ALL left within 6 months of buying the shirt.
I then stopped doing this for good (although was very tempted to get a Claus Thomsen shirt) - but I DO like the idea of a Kenwright shirt...

Why not just have the words "Dog Shit" written on the back... this can be used for the whole back 4 then....

They can?t win can they? We are constantly having a go at the merchandising dept and how badly it is run, yet when the put the price up to generate more revenue they are called for everthing.

As another poster stated, you don?t need to buy one so don?t worry about it. The fact that they sell out so quickly on the Megastore site shows that someone is doing something right.

I haven?t bought a home top for a few years now as they all look the same and the design is boring. I will buy another one is it actually changes and looks good, no matter if it has gone up £5 from the year before.

They are still £40 at www.soccerscene.co.uk, although the away kit is £42 for some reason.

Am I looking at a different site?

The prices on that site you posted are £34 and £36.

Unless you have already included postage or something?

Where’s our new road safety away kits?

Looking forward to an AWESOME 09/10 kit ;)

I gave up buying replica kits for myself a long time ago.But the last couple of seasons ive always bought my son the home and away kits. This season Everton have lost a oner from me as his replica kit will not be a replica!. Some people might think that is silly but living down south you dont see too many Everton tops on kids and im guessing people(especially kids)will think hes wearing a fake.I dont know about up in Liverpool as im sure people are aware of the situation.(regarding advertising)

There must be a trend here. I have only twice had players name on the back of my shirt in 20 years. Unsworth left 6 months afterwards, and so did Rooney. I don?t do it now so as not to curse anyone!

Also, it used to be a new kit every other year, the home kit one year and then the away kit the next year and so on. Now its all 3 kits plus the keeper?s EVERY year! What!!!!!!

Mike Coates, you might want to check if that is FROM £34 etc. All adults sizes are extra 5 - 10 quid. Those default prices are sizes based on our midfield players.

25 quid for "Rest of the World Delivery" is the real joke! I thought they were making an attempt to grow a global fanbase!

Presumably all the Asian/Aussie/African fans who post on here have to get there stuff from eBay or local sellers rather than giving any funds to the club!

How hard would it be to just set up an office in say Bangkok and ship a bulkload of stuff there for on-posting to customers nearer there than the UK.
