Tonight I wish we were Man City!

Comments (21)

Sky have just announced that the Manchester City take-over by the Arabs has been completed.

I can't help but be envious. There they are with a mega-rich owner, a cracking manager, Brasil's finest players and publicity to die for. Here we are with a luvie-duvie owner, a boring manager, Phil bloody Neville and never a mention in a national newspaper!

Forgive me if I'm pissed off but I'm fucking jealous ? and I know I ain't the only one!

Believe it or not, I’m not. It’d be nice to have so much money swilling round in the coffers of Fortress Goodison BUT there is something very distasteful when so much money is attained by no effort on the club’s part. Of course there is rejoicing in Middle Eastlands, but ultimately those laughing hardest are the thickest of the Citizens. What goes around, comes around...a normalisation of the football circus is long overdue and when it happens, it’ll be those with mega-earning mercenaries on their books that will suffer a real culture shock.

We need investment urgently not to bolster our playing staff, but to shore up our perilous financial status.

What is the point of success if you?ve simply gone out and bought it? And, they?ve won nowt yet.

Really, there can be no genuine pleasure in having something so easy. Where is the sense of achievement or value? Only a cynic with no soul would relish being able to have something so easily.

It?s like comparing true love and Rooney buying a shag.

Harvey, agreed, but in the mean time we’ll be long forgotten to a bygone age.

And how would the faithful respond when the new owner said you’ll have a new ground where I say it will be - vote? You must be fucking joking. What do you think we are? Democrats?

Wow Tony,

Let's not count Man City chickens before the season ends, we have seen it every year with Spurs. We have seen it at the beginning of last season; let's have this chat at the end of the season when the dust settles.

Agree with Stefan it?s a marathon not a sprint.

Didn't City lead the Prem for a long time at the start of last season?

The Arabians have been stated to have no interest in football, they are just out to make the point that they van do whatever they want. That’s not something I envy and it doesn’t sound very healthy for the long term future of Man City.

I’m sick to death with stupid comments berating "buying success". Isn’t that what LFC and Man Utd have always tried to do down the years? Oh, but their success came from hard work and tradition... Nonsense. It came from money gleaned from masses of bandwagon-jumping glory hunters.

What is the more distasteful? Obtaining spending power from a wealthy benefactor or from masses of glory hunters? To me there is no moral absolute to consider here. Wealth, from either source, would be very welcome for any club.

At least Man Utd had all their young players come through in the 1990?s to become stars. Its success like Chelsea?s which is based on nothing but money that is meaningless.

I?m not a fan of Blue Bill but he is right in saying Everton cannot go on like we are. Man City won?t be the last club to gain an investor and if Everton don?t find one we simply won?t be sustainable on an off the pitch. All football fans would love their club to win in a meaningful and hard fought way. The problem is I doubt many billionaires fancy waiting years on a meaningful journey before they see success. Would people prefer that a billionaire comes along only to give us £30 million a year rather than £30 million for each player?

I think it’s great for the Premier League and the battle for the top4 slots more interesting. And Arse Wanker can piss off. Michel Platini saw right through you. Every club has a right to aspire to the top. You think Abramovich was a Chelsea supporter from birth? Well, you’ll just have to fight for a top4 spot like the rest of us instead of having it handed on a plate every boring season.

When talking about money and being successful as a result you cannot forget your history, Everton Mersey Millionaires. We had so much more money than any other club for such a long period of time. It was a regular occasion for us to go out and buy the best new players. I would like to say we never exploited our wealth at the time but I very much doubt we didn?t. Football is exactly like life there is no level playing field and that?s will always be the way.

In truth, I suspect very few Evertonians wish we were Man City! There is a club that changes ownership every five minutes, has a largely untested manager and a growing band of boys from Brasil who wont fancy an English winter one little bit.

On the other hand, we are a club in the stable ownership of a life-long fan, have one of the Prem?s very best managers (with ten years of experience) and a team which is being improved upon year on year.

As Thaksin has proven, these foreign owners are here today and gone tomorrow. Our Bill does right to be extremely picky who he lets into our camp!

Richard Dodd that?s one way of defining a totally inept and story telling Chairman.

I wish more than anything we were bought by Bill Gates or Bruce Wayne or anyone with money, with a dream to turn us into the best football team on the planet....Ah if only.

Only problem with my wish is that the person who owns us has the shutters down and a sign that says not for sale.
