Blackburn vs Everton

Comments (182)

Well... What can we expect from tonight?

We've been up and down so far this season. The easy has ended up being tough, and the tough, ended up being annoyingly difficult.

Will we be able to reverse the score in our first game of the season, and keep up our generally decent away form? And POSSIBLY pull off a winner this evening? And who will we have to help us? Who do you think will make the starting line-up?

  • Howard (will he play? virus?) or NASH
  • Neville
  • Jagielka
  • Yobo (recovered enough?) or Lescott
  • Baines (as we've been told, is starting)
  • Arteta
  • Fellaini
  • Castillo
  • Cahill
  • Saha (starting birth?)
  • Yak
Will there be any tv coverage available ANYWHERE? Or is the Carling Cup that unimportant? Is Everton TV even screening the game?

I guess we can only wait and see...

Roll out player and manager expectations of a 'great cup run'.

I imagine Cahill will be rested.. and I’m not sure if Arteta is fit.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Saha and Vaughan up front.

I reckon it’ll be Vaughan and Vic up top. Judging from Moyes’ comments about Saha in the week, it seems like he doesn’t want to rush hime back and risk his fitness any more than he has to. I’d also hope the likes of Fellaini and Castillo start, they need games to get into a rhythm and bed in.

Hey I like what you’ve done with my post (the whole, dot points and all).. And understand the removal of the previous game scorelines ;)

True a lot of players may be rested and the kids MAY start up front if Anichebe is ok? But seeing its Blackburn, I’d like to see our top players used to get some vengeance in this one!

Regardless of the outcome and the team Blackburn is fielding, the line-up, with no Yakubu and no Cahill, shows the level of interest David Moyes has in this competition. That’s a pity because it’s a winnable competition, worth good money in the latter stages and a portal to Europe.

In answer to Brett, I too am nervous about the amount of money we spent on Fellaini. For that sort of money you expect a complete player, and it seems Fellaini isn’t great at distribution (possibly heading as well). Give him time though. I just hope he comes good.

The Blues have real problems defending as we have all seen of late. Chances are it isn't going to improve overnight. Only way to get around this for now is to stop giving the ball away cheaply which has been criminal in games so far.

The long balls to the front men are wasted for the most part because they fail to control the ball long enough and a big improvement is needed by the offence to correct this weakness. Saha seems to have more of this ability and his inclusion may help Everton keep possession longer.

As for the League cup. Expect nothing. Most Prem teams will play weakened teams and take their chances. With the Derby coming up it would be wise for Everton to play some of the fringe players.

Sopcast and TVants (among others) are not an exact science, you cant expect something free to be top quality Paul/Mick - they do work well sometimes and I’ve watched all EFC’s games in the PL this season perfectly online. You have to have great patience to get the feeds working and it helps if a) you get to the feed early, and b) you have a fast connection of 4Mb upwards.

Like I keep saying Paul, join the freefootball.org forum and you can get loads of advice, not to mention all the links to all the feeds for free footy not just in the PL, but Spain too - also feeds for cricket, boxing etc.

Admittedly we miss Carsley for defense, but the players we have are good enough to sort themselves out eventually.

I think we?re more in long term trouble due to the absolute lack of options to provide any width or creativity to our lads up front. If we could just feed them some chances, we?d take pressure off the whole team.

Some of you guys really need to get a grip. it’s not the end of the world at the moment. We’re not playing well but we have a lot of new players. Tonight we would have been much better if Arteta and Pienaar were playing. We’re in desperate need of players that can keep control of the ball, and as soon as we have a fully fit team, we should come good. The defence is shaky at the moment, but last season was proof that they can work together.
Give it time guys. We’ll turn our fortunes around. There’s far too much class in our team for it to go that bad.

Manager and board have to take responsibility for lack of appropriate signings I think. We have no proper wide players, no-one who can create. Even Arteta is a CM and looks much better in that position.

We had Vaughan, Rodwell, Ossie and Cahill on the wings at times tonight. Too many square pegs in round holes. Too many defensive midfielders. You can?t blame the players if the balance of the side is completely out of whack.

Terry, of course we are supposed to be building on from last season. We could be out of Europe soon but we?re not as yet. We?re 9th in the league, but it?s early days. String a few wins together and see us climb up the table. I know it?s hard to see that given the shite football being served up (and i do get just annoyed as the next blue about how crap it is at the moment) but I think it will come good.

It was no fluke last season conceding so few goals. Our defence has not changed (bar one Mr Carsley), and I?m not of the view it?s down to him alone. It?s just been complacency and individual errors on behalf of each of the back four. It?s been shit seeing us play so bad, and I know cup competitions are a good chance to get some exposure, but we haven?t ?ruined? our season as so many are claiming. It?s still mid-September for Christ's sake. Lots to play for.

Let?s start by beating the red shite this weekend. COYB!!!
