John Paul Kissock

At a time when Everton are crying out for a bit of width, why hasn't this lad been given a chance?

He did well on loan in the SPL, he's a set-piece taker, and he's been the subject of bids from Man City and Chelsea.

Is there anyone who may know, or at least have theories, on why he hasn't been given a chance above say, Jose Baxter, who is younger, less physically developed and less experienced?

Because Moyes would rather play other players out of position rather than bring players like Kissock in...

Maybe if Kissock was a defender then David Moyes would play him in midfield :0)

Moyes brought in Rodwell before he actually had to. He’ll bring players in if he feels it is beneficial for their development.

Maybe...and this is just a crazy thought..just maybe he may not be good enough to play in the premiership yet. Just a wild theory I like to throw about every now and again.

Then again we can revert to form and blame Moyes, Kenwright, Kirkby or Madden and Richard Dood ;-)

Kissock give us width? He’d offer us as much width as Osman does, not very much at all. He’s naturally a central player to be honest, best behind the front two.

Baxter is ahead of him because he’s better really, simple as. Kissock showed a bit of promise when he came through but he hasn’t progressed at all, not physically or technically.

People have compared him to Osman, Osman was on a completely different level in his youth. Osman was running games, creating goals and getting goals. Kissock looks very normal at reserve level.

There’s a reason why Moyes doesn’t use him, there’s a reason when he never even gets sub appearences aswell, he’s not up to the level required.

I’d be very suprised if Kissock made it here to be honest, if he does he’ll be a late bloomer like Osman.

Geof,

as soon as he is in and has a bad game, the "midget" brigade will be out asking what is with Moyes and slow, lghtweight, Champioship quality players...

You see its not that easy to please everyone and beside I think that our problem is not in the midfield "crying" for a width, it has to do more with the defence. I am very happy averaging two goals per game scored, as long as we concede less than two, which is not the case at the moment

I know why - the manager doesnt think he?s good enough or the manager doesnt think he?s ready.

Besides you're wrong that a lack of width is our problem - defensive mistakes are our problem and I doubt a winger will solve that. Not to mention the fact that you would be dropping leon or mikael to fit him in and they have been two of our best players

I have seen Kissock a few times - including a pre-season friendly at Accy Stanley where he made a number of errors from showboating. Unfortunately for him, DM was briefly at the match.

The lad has flair, no doubt; however, he is a wee bit off Prem standard IMHO.

One for next season/season after. Reckon in the meantime a loan to a Champ side would help him toughen up and reduce the showboating / errors.

Darrel Pugh,

That?s in your mind my friend. Osman is a class act, his strengths by far outweigh his weaknesses and he always wants the ball.

He?s got a big heart as well, he works his socks off and he plays through injuries for Everton footbal club.

In 06-07 he was a bit of a boo-boy at Goodison, players like Davies and Beattie cracked in that situation whereas Osman battled through and has shown what he?s all about. Obviously moving centrally also helped him.

I know a good player when I see one, Osman is a good player and will only get better with age.

He is only about 5?-5" ? if he had his hair cut he would lose about 2 inches and a stone in weight!

My suspicion is that it's down to his attitude ? I always get the impression he?s a big too big for his boots, something that DM clearly won't stand for in a player.

He probably needs to grow up a bit, stop all the pointless showboating that Amanda mentioned and get on with playing football ? the kid's clearly got talent, he just needs to learn how to use it.

Look at Baxter and Rodwell, clearly got sense beyond their years; Kissock, perhaps not.

David Alexander,

Lack of width isn’t our MAIN problem, bit its still a problem IMO. There is no back-up for Arteta and Peanuts and even Arteta is not an out-and-out wideman.

Why do we only breed midgets?

Is there something in the water missing?

I think Moyes likes his wide players drifting inside and getting involved at all times, that’s why he plays attacking central midfielders in wide positions.

Alot of managers do it, Arsene Wenger is a big believer in it, he uses the likes of Rosicky, Hleb and Nasri in wide positions over the years.

Moyes did say recently though that’s he’s looking for an out and out winger to give him more options. The likes of Stephen Hunt and Victor Obinna where on his radar.

I saw JP a few times in the SPL last season; he as got talent but he is really, really lightweight still. I don?t think he is anywhere near Premier League standard yet: and it would not do him or the team any good to send him in against Blackburn. Give us Dag&Red in the next round then it?s a different matter

Hmm well its been said before but it never did any harm to the likes of Messi, Saviola, Owen, Zola, SWP. If you are good enough size doesn’t matter. In fact I remember one day in Gwladys Street staring in disbelief at Ian Dowie on a football field. Kissock is either not good enough or not yet ready and Moyes will tell.

Osman has a great work rate and scores too. Also, he played on in the game Sunday with a dislocated thumb.

JP will be given his time once DM decides he is ready. On the Osman matter. Can you imagine many other clubs in the top half bidding for him?He over plays for us as his heart is Blue, but im sure if he went to the likes of Fulham etc, he would quickly disappear from the PL.

Firstly, Moyes can be slightly over protective when it comes to youth players in my opinion. Rooney for example was only used for about 20 minutes a game for ages. Then, as soon as he go to manure he plays 90 and bangs in a hatrick.

Secondly a wide man is not the answer to our problems. One of our problems however is that we rely so much on passing the ball outwide to cross it in the box. Therefore it make us look like were missing an out and out winger. Why we cant ever play down the midle of the park is beyond me.

Thirdly Osman is a decent player yes he is small but technically he is gifted.

Won’t have a word said against Osman, committed, skilful, can score superb goals, he’s a real asset to the team and, frankly, I think we miss him more when he doesn’t play than we do Arteta in all honesty (though I would also like to stress here that I AM an Arteta fan too and am noyt knocking the best little Spaniard we know!!).

Geoff - I am sure that JPK will be given his chance in the future. Baxter looks to be an exceptional talent and to be fair to Moyes he has not been reluctant to give youngsters a chance. Rooney,Vaughan and Baxter have all played for the first team at the age of 16. Yes he has more often than not used these lads from the bench, but give the guy a break ? I doubt whether there are many managers in the Premier League who have been as willing to give younger players a chance. Joe Royle held the record for Everton?s youngest player in a League game for 39 years - from 1966 until 2005. James Vaughan broke that record but only held it for 3 years - that shows that Moyes will give youth a chance.

As regards Osman - I sometimes think we don?t really appreciate what a "diamond" we have in that player. As the great Joni Mitchell once said, "Don?t it always seen to be that you don?t know what you?ve got 'til it?s gone." Osman is certainly far better than an average player and when he is injured I think we miss him. Where you there when Derby came to Goodison in April? The Derby fans gave Osman a brilliant reception both before and at the end of the match - they remember his period on loan there and certainly appreciated his abilities.

Chris,
what has Rooney done lately? perhaps that proves Moyes point even more so. He was a much better player aged 16 & 17 than he is now and ever will be again.
