Bill's Barclaycard

Comments (22)

I hope Bill Kenwright paid for Fallaini with his Barclaycard as if we lose him at the airport next week he will be able to get his money back!

The lad looked lost last night as another inept defensive and midfield display put paid to the Carling Cup for another year. Screech seemed to move in straight lines and passed safe and square too often. I am sure there is more to come from him but really unless he was following orders or something was lost in translation, he's not a player taking any initiative. He and Castillo on this showing can't play together. They both rooted themselves in front of the back four and apart from Fellaini's odd forage forward to the head the ball on the edge of the Blackburn box, he did little else. I willed him to win the ball and one time there was a lovely tackle followed by a brilliant turn, we all gasped and waited for the incise through ball to Saha............shit he bent it 40 yards to the invisible man and Blackburn swept up!

I thought we lacked balance and confidence all night with just Osman and Saha showing any real quality. Vaughan tried to fight and win the ball but his increasing frustration and occasional kung fu attempts at blocking the keeper's clearances was madness. He even tried to get sent off on a couple of occasions but the ref said to him, "If I 've got to watch this shite, then you're staying too!"

The only thing I will say from a miserable night is that we have defended poorly and started slowly for a number of seasons. The Champions League season shows lots of similarities. Also last season until he introduced Carsley back into the team at Metalist, we looked vulnerable at the back. Cars is sadly missed and I just hope his expensive replacement doesn't turn out to be Krøldrup in a Fellaini mask.

Fellaini has his big game at the weekend, providing he is not the one dropped to the bench this week!

"Just Osman and Saha showing any real quality". I’m still getting used to Louis Saha being an Everton player (just like when the Yak was parachuted in), but I’m very pleased to note such a positive observation of our own reared lad.

A problem with being part of a family is that you are always ’the kid’, or whatever. Leon Osman is a class act, was always going to be so, and is proving it.

Yes, because Carsley would have bossed the game yesterday in a 4-4-2 wouldn?t he. Laughable to be honest, he got overrun time and time again in a 4-4-2. I?d say we miss Stubbs a lot more at the moment, he?d be a a lot more useful than Carsley.

As for Fellaini, things take time to be honest. He?s a youngster, he?s went from a mickey mouse league to one of the best in Europe and he obviously isn?t the finished article by any means.

It?s not his fault Moyes bought him for £15 million and I hope Evertonians give him time and don?t get on his back like we do with a lot of new players. We tried to do it to Yak, Fernandes and Jagielka last season, thankfully they came through and proved their quality.

I’d like to know how much Fallaini actually cost? I’m willing to say he cost nowhere near £15m. Anyway, give the lad a chance. I bet a lot of people writing messages here would struggle going to a forgeign country ,working with people speaking different launguages, whose colleagues are low on confidence, at 20 years of age dont forget would struggle.

I remember people slagging Pienaar off after 3 games last year and then he turned out to be one of our best players.

I would be very suprised if DM played both Fellaini and Castillo on Saturday based on their performances so far. The derby can make or break a player, and a poor performance from either, especially Fellaini with the reputation he has come with (not to mention his price) could take a very long time to recover from. I never thought I would hear myself saying it but, I would actually put Neville in the middle and bring Hibbert in at right back for what will potentially be the 2 games that shape our season.

OK granted Fellaini had 2 briliant games against the shite last month, but he was part of a midfield that he played 40 odd games alongside last season, not to mention the fact he was able to communicate with them. He looks like light years away from this replicating this form at the moment. The fact that Neville can speak the queens and therefore bark orders out the middle of the park could prove priceless should Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano click and get into their stride early doors on Saturday. Anyone got Danny Cadamarteri?s mobile number ! ! ! ? ? ?

I know enough about football to know that if you can't talk or communicate with your teammates you are in sh!t, especially against one of the world?s best midfielders, in his local derby, against fans he fuckin despises.

Couldn?t agree with you more that Neville cant pass for fuck, but he?ll get stuck in and have a go on Saturday and he certainly won?t go missing or hide which is more can be said for Fellaini on his showing so far.

Neville has been one of the few Everton players so far this season to play with confidence. We even got to experience him do a couple of step overs, go past a man and then complete a pass to an Everton player. In one run down the wing at the Stoke game. There hasn’t been much more class than that this season from players you would expect it from in midfield, never mind a right back.
Some of them carnt even find a blue shirt. Forget the school of science lads and just get back to doing the basics, because thats what they are missing at the moment.

If you?ve looked at Fellaini?s body language in all 3 games he?s played its obvious he?s wondering what the hell is going on a round him. The speed and ferocity of the games has completely overwhelmed him. It will take him at least 3 months to get used to it and hopefully he will be able to demonstrate to us that he?s got what it takes to become our "leader" .

Castillo - as I said after watching him in his last 2 Ecuador games does not pressurise, close down ? he fills space, he?s played only against teams who play to feet, slowly, look for gaps/weaknesses etc. He?s used to dropping back and hopefully clearing up any loose balls etc ? he repeating myself DOES NOT CLOSE THE OPPONENTS DOWN.

Moyes said himself that he see the start of a new team at Everton - I think what it means is that we can't do the old high tempo, aggressive, pressuring game he always done because Fellaini and Castillo cant do it. They are undoubtedly better footballers than we had before in the centre but we need to see it demonstrated - I?d say about mid December. Hope to god we are still in touch with 5/6 places and we have a good 2nd half to the season.

Fellaini will come good, give the kid a chance ? he?s played against the shite before remember and he had a good couple of games against them too.

I have an inkling we?re gonna win on Saturday.

Why are the new lads not given time to settle? New team, new language, new style of play ? faster for a start. It's not their fault that we got them at the last minute, instead of giving them the pre-season to come to terms with what they face. And I think we will get at least a point on Saturday.

Maybe Moyes just wanted to get shut of the Johnson money quick in case Fulham asked for it back. Seriously I hope he comes good but but he must settle and learn the language first, then loose that scary (Andy Murrey) hair-cut.

?Screech?, very good.
He needs time but I?m not even sure he is better than Fernandes and we could have signed him for £10mil.

I?d love to know how not speaking the lingo affects one's ability to pass to another player in the same colour of shirt!

I'm sure Fellaini will improve and Castillo will start closing down quicker.... but they?re certainly not, at this stage, ?the quality not quantity? we were promised.

Just a thought on the communication problems with Fellaini;

I believe that he only speaks Flemmish/Dutch? If this is the case then why can’t we use Pienaar or AvdM to make sure he gets the message (we might actually get AvdM earning his wages!)? And if it is Wallon/French, then I’m sure Yobo and Saha could do the honours.

My belief is that once Pienaar is back in the team Fellaini’s game will improve.

You have to remember Fellaini is only 20 yo and is not the finished article. He?s not only playing in a team that is low in confidence but also the added stress of moving to a new country where he doesn?t speak the language.

I lived in Belgium for almost 2 years and played football at a reasonable level over there. The game is completely different to over here, much more technical and far less aggressive, so much so I was forever getting booked in my fisrt few months.
Good players will adapt however (I?m not putting myself in that category), but need to be given time to adjust.

Very few young players come over from European leagues and are immediately a hit. Just look at Tottenham, they?ve made some good signings but aren?t performing at the moment.

I reckon Fellaini will come good, just don?t get on his back and give him some time.

Just a small addition to the Fellaini debate, if it took a player of Ballack?s experience and ability time to adapt then surely a 20-year-old will also take time. I also think that centre-mids take the longest to adapt due to the nature of playing in that position.

Fellaini looked well off the pace against Blackburn, and for one so tall,he seems to have no spring in his feet and gets beaten in the air too often by shorter players.I hope he improves for all our sakes.
Another point, does anyone track Phil Neville’s passing percentages.Even tossing a coin would yield a 50% success rate but Neville invariably finds an opposing shirt!
