Not quite the news to set Everton pulses racing but Davey obviously thinks we need captain Pip to lead from the middle! Still think we may spring a surprise and grab the points ? just sorry I couldn`t get a ticket!

Sorry DM bringing in Hibbert so soon in this game is a big mistake. Better to have put Jagielka at right back and Lescott at centre with Baines at left back. I hope I am wrong. Castillo should have stayed in.

Chances are that knowing how many times redshite fairy tales happen in Derby games that Gerrard will score his 100 goal and Keane will score his first.

That is assuming Everton's defence is in generous mood yet again.

I actually think Riley is doing ok, the yellow card was a typical ref trying to stamp his authority on the game early on. There are plenty of decisions going our way as well, which, if you were a redshite, you would be shaking your head at. I agree though, I wish he would let the game flow a bit more, instead of blowing for everything. By the way, are we actually the home side? The shite are playing all the football, but thankfully they haven’t got anything to show for it. Another game were we resort to hoofball, which isn’t doing the yak any favours. I just wish for once, Moyes would have just gone for it. We are always being told by plenty of you lads on here, that we are just as good as them, so for once, why not have a go? But, the mentality of Moyes for the first half, seems to say we are playing for a draw.

Do some of you actually WATCH the game, or just repeat presumed stereotypes...?

We are NOT playing hoofball out of defence ...

The only long balls I’ve seen played have been out of necessity - that is, sensibly clearing the lines when the defence is under threat.

There has been some very nice link up play throughout the whole team. Even Hibbert has picked out sensible short passes to feet.

We have clearly been the better team as an attacking force since the 20 minute mark and have had the best chances. Timmy could have done better on a couple of occasions and Fellaini - even though he didn’t score when Carragher cleared off the line - should NEVER have had a foul called on him when Reina dropped the ball...

The one concern I’ve had to date is the space at time down their left, on our right. Fortunately, Keane hasn’t been alert to overlapping players to take full advantage of the threat.

An encouraging first half, IMO...

Piss poor. Shows the limitations in Moyes?s game. Reacts to situations rather than changing for the better. Why did we have to go 1-0 down before he even contemplated making subs? And by the time he did it we were then 2-0 down. Game over.

As for the players, I thought the back four played quite well considering. The game was lost in midfield. Fellaini looks like he can only pass backwards and sideways, no influence from Cahill or Osman. Yak looked too isolated up front.

Saha looked bright and he has to play from now on, probably at the expense of Osman. I also thought it was a mistake to leave Castillo out. I am gutted, but unfortunatley not suprised.

Painfully disappointing second half. If we need to score two goals every game just to draw, then we are going to struggle.

Once again, the defence went missing. How can a player with the reputation of Torres be left with so much time and space in the area as he had for the two goals? It appeared a combination of players switching off for a nano-second and not being alert to a threatening situation (Keane getting to a ball to the byeline and crossing for the first) and players simply not picking up their man by either running past them themselves or allowing their man to run past them. At this level it is inevitable you will get punished for it.

Jags was the most solid of the back four, Hibbert perhaps next best... Yobo and particularly Lescott have a nervous flicker in their eyes at the moment. There is almost a tangible fear in their play. Howard is exempt from any blame for the two goals.

People in this thread are hanging Fellaini out to dry, but this for me was his best game so far. I accept, he has not yet fully adjusted to the pace of the EPL and for a big lad he needs to stand up to the physical challenge more. But from what I saw, he didn’t hide and he does have technical ability. Right until the last minute he kept looking for the ball AND trying to pass it. Compare his performance today with that of Arteta and I would argue that Fellaini contributed much more. When I first saw his failed header in the second half, I thought he didn’t go for it, but when you see the replays his shirt was fully in the grip of the ’poo defender, preventing him from jumping, and it merited a pen. Cahill’s red card was not justified, but Tim didn’t facilitate the situation by walking away and refusing to return to Riley when summonsed. Not smart...

Always horrible to lose to the ’bours. Confidence is evidently very low. Everybody, but EVERYBODY within the club need to get this sorted before the season goes down the pan before the trees are barren of leaves.

And top of the list is the Moyes’ contract issue: sign... or go. The "imminent" signing has dragged on too long. Everybody, the players in particular, need to know just where we stand on that score.

Forever Blue...

I can?t wait for Pienaar to make his comeback, that derby display was fucking hopeless, 4-5-1 doesn?t work if Cahill is non-existent.

Team for the Newcastle game: Howard, Neville, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Fellaini, Castillo, Osman, Saha, Yakubu. The position we are in at the moment we cannot afford luxury players. DM can say all he wants about contracts and so-called panic buys but at the moment he can't pick a decent team formation to save his skin.

I think it is way too early to jump all over Fellaini, he has to be given time to settle in. I see a young player, being played out of position by Moyes, finding his feet in an environment he has never seen before. What do people expect from him?

He is not the creative force we want he is a shield for the back four in the Carsley role, but he can pass he is ok technically and he will improve, which I believe was the scouting report on him when he signed!

It is not his fault we paid over the odds for him and it is not his fault Moyes didn?t buy anyone then bought two defensive centre mids (to make three with Neville) for one position. He was never going to be Moutinho fellas, get off his back, it is not his fault we are shit.

No Brian Waring - not "easily" pleased... and nowhere in my post do I say I am. I have made absolutely no observation, at any time, as to the value of Fellaini. I haven?t seen enough of him to judge and nor, I suspect, has any one posting on this site.

Nor am I as quick to condemn as you and others appear to be. Totally disagree in your assessment of Fellaini and his passing. If and when he did pass backwards or sideways it was in a typical continental style, if you like, short "give and go" passes, forming effective triangles to pass through the opposition (a lá Arsenal). Isn?t that what you and others crave of Everton...? Equally, he DID play some cute forward passes, but in your rush to condemn him (to indirectly condemn Moyes, perhaps...?), you choose to edit that out of your memory banks.

Now whether the rest of the team are on his wavelength yet, or he on theirs, is another matter.

He... the other new players... ALL the players have not been helped by the late recruitment of new faces. But THAT is another issue for which Fellaini himself cannot be held accountable.

Everton does have some good footballers, capable of playing good football. They demonstrate as much in just about every game we play... and Fellaini will, I hope, contribute more and more to that style of play. Hopefully, this will result in ever-increasingly more attractive football that every supporter craves for, over more sustained periods of individual matches and the season as a whole.

If we were playing 4-5-1, why were the shite picking up all of the second balls in midfield and running at our "defence"? (because 3 of those midfielders were Osman, Cahill, and Neville).

If children and babies knew that the redshite would run at Hibbert on our right and test his match readiness (he wasn?t) and our tactical changes, how come Moyes didn?t know that? (because that?s what Moyes always does - there is no reason)

If we have 2 strikers like Yak and Saha, how come we couldn?t get a shot in?(because we didn?t have a midfield capable of getting the ball to them).

If the game is being refereed by Wiley, how could we expect anything else about the cards? (we didn?t - and while I wouldn?t call him a bastard he sets the standard for why kissing cousins shouldn?t).

If Moyes doesn?t want to sign his contract, why is he still here? (fucked if I know)

It’s too easy to knock Fellaini, he might make it or he might not but he’s only just arrived and needs some time to get used to the Prem. But what about anonymous Osman - another big game and he disappears, what does he contribute in games like this? too small, too slow and completely ineffective against anything other than crap sides. Cahill only offers enthusiasm and energy no ability on the ball but the biggest issue of them all is the manager and his tactics.

No imagination in his tactics, always reacts to situations and is never proactive, sticks to runners and chasers. Against a passing team like Liverpool selecting Neville in a 5 man midfield might as well hand them the initiative right from the start. The balance of the team is crap and that is down to Moyes, his selections and his buys. His midfield lacks width and lacks anyone with guile apart from Arteta.

Its time for Moyes to go, his body language says he wants away so why doesn’t he just go - waiting for us to get dumped out of Europe no doubt!! He’s reached his ceiling and will never progress with any football club other than as huffers and puffers and Everton demand more than that.
