Raising the White Flag again

If we are honest we could not really have expected a great result. However, we are fully entitled to at least witness an effort? In my 60 years of watching Everton, that was probably the most pathetic white flag performance that I can remember (from either side) in a derby match. Under Moyes we seem to constantly be afraid of having a go at any of these so called " big guns" (Chelsea & the Anfield derby last season; typical).
I do not accept the excuses of lack of funds, injured & new players, nor that we have not spent the money of our neighbours, there has not been one decent performance since the Fiorentina game. Yes, Mr Moyes has got us into a better shape than we were when he arrived he has also spent & wasted lots of money. He must be at the end of the road, his whole attitude speaks for itself, surely he should have the honesty, decency & his own pride dignity to realise he does not seem capable of going any further with this club and resign NOW.
True, we may not be able to choose a new man from the top of the pile but please lets at least find someone to provide some entertainment just on some occasions. These dour defensive line-up tactics he appears to love all the time are simply not working anymore, the defensive frailties are exposed (not least the goalkeeper in my opinion, look at our goals against & no clean sheets).
Moyes's one up front tactical style has destroyed two players who scored goals for fun at other clubs, Beattie & Johnson, it is starting to look like the hat-trick with the Yak. Sorry but it is time to say BYE BYE DAVIE, you have had your chances, now YOUR TIME IS UP!!!

I was a confirmed Moyes supporter until I read his £100 million excuse. Once a manager starts thinking like that, a professional move known as ’doing a Smith’ then that’s it for me, the manager has given up.
My big worry would not be who would be available to be the next manager but more like what sort of second rater Kenwright would be going for. My fear would be that with Kenwright on the hunt he’d be looking to pay Bolton compensation for Megson!
The contract thing - DM could have made himself a very wealthy man in 10 seconds with a fountain pen, and he hasn’t.
After Thursday I think he’ll sign or walk.
Some interesting comments. BUT Lets not become like City/Spurs/West Ham and god forbid Newcastle. Knee jerk reactions against managers do no good for the club. We are still not out of Sept. I?m not being Naive and Davey may shock us all by resigning after Thursday but let's not force his hand. We?ve got some good players and a defence that needs some confidence. For once let's encourage the fans to show solidarity and support and we will come through this poor home form.
Its kinda boring now isnt it? Moyes has always been a negative manager....shut out if we can.....and react when we dont. No surprise there. ps. nice to see the adverts on TW offering RS products from Amazon...we are all doomed.
"After Thursday I think he?ll sign or walk. "
Keith - not a lot of other options, are there?
David Moyes is obviously not enjoying his job. So please do the right thing and get another one.
If Moyes goes after Thursday can he take Phil Neville with him please? I am sick of hearing his bull shit every week. We wouldn?t give Carsley a 2-year contract because of his age but we give that cunt a 4-year one? On Saturday when I seen the team I knew we were beaten before a ball was kicked. Neville in midfield and the Yak up front on his own when we are at home. What a fucken joke. Everytime he played Neville in midfield last year we lost. So we stick him in their against Gerard? Gerard must have been laughin his tits off. Castillo gets MotM against Liege then gets dropped? Maybe if he cost £15 mil then he might have got picked. I'm afraid its time Moyes took his negative hoof ball shit and fucked off and hopefully takes his bum boy with him, because I've had enough and speaking to most of the boys they all feel the same.
Terry, Top post mate,
Couldn’t agree more.
I have to disagree with the general "abject surrender" nature of your article. I am not going to use the excuse of a poor and inconsistent referee, but there are certain facts I think you should consider.
I don?t think we would have got away with the " Dogs of War" type effort of 1994-95 and Joe Royle?s tactics given the general refereeing climate at the moment and the idiot who was put in charge of Saturday?s game. I know that Fellaini has yet to do himself justice, but I can?t help feeling that his yellow card after 6 minutes was rather harsh to say the least and affected his performance ? i.e. he had to watch his challenges from that point on.
The sending off?? A joke ? again it wouldn?t have changed the outcome ? but Cahill is now suspended for 3 games ??!
It?s not the dithering on Moyes signing a new contract which handed the red shite a 2-0 victory. It?s not the £100 million difference in spending. I?ll tell you what it is Dave.
It?s playing one up front in a home match. It?s playing the most incompetent club captain of recent memory in midfield. Again. It?s playing two players who both got sent off in the same fixture last year, one giving away a penalty in the process, again. It?s encoraging anyone in a blue shirt to aimlessly and easily give possession back to their opposition and then hope to weather the inevitable wave of attacks.
Not good enough, Moyes! I wouldn?t mind so much if we had a bloody good go at them and played some good stuff but were undone by a better forward line. To just try and hoof the ball around and hope to take one chance in a game is not good enough for our football club I?m afraid!!! What I would like would be for Dave to have to sit at work this morning and fend off emails from cocky Liverpool fans all morning without having a single retort to offer them.
David Motes can?t make a decision. Hibbert or Neville, Lescott or Jagielka... He can?t make a basic managerial decision.
Perhaps David Moyes should watch a recording of the Arsenal vs Hull City game. Hull didn?t exactly try to take Arsenal on in a contest of free flowing football ? they did get men back and defend in depth when they had to ? but they included enough attacking players to be effective in counter attacking whenever they had the chance. If David Moyes had been in charge of Hull City, I doubt whether Giovanni would have played ? no doubt he would have been replaced by a defensive midfielder or defender.
Also, when Standard Liege came to Goodison, they came prepared to attack whenever possible. I am not saying Moyes should never play 4-5-1 ? it?s just at times he seems to be obsessed with this formation. Yakubu was too isolated upfront and it was clear from about 15 minutes into the game the tactics were not working.
I am 61 years old and cancelled my season ticket two years ago. I switched off the match on Saturday when the second goal went in. I was embarrassed to be an Evertonian. The side has no pace. While the manager continues to play Neville we will struggle. The football we play is boring. In the 60 minutes I watched, we did not have one decent shot on target. When Walter Smith played one up front, Kevin Campbell said I don't mind away but I hope I get some help at home. We signed a sicknote from Man U. He's got a bit of pace so play him. Fulham became my second favourite team when they signed Simon Davies... any chance they want Phil Neville?
Micheal Brien, your two posts contradict themselves. You say you will not use the ref as an excuse then pour out all the excuses. I agree the Cahill sending off was outrageous and he was a crap ref. Then you say Hull played attackers up front. Is that not what I am saying at the start... ie, If you don't attack you raise the white flag and say come on attack us and we will hope to survive. Moyes has done it so often and it has worked on occasions but it has been sussed out. He shows almost NO tactical aptitude. We are a boring team to watch most of the time. Be honest, admit it. I am 69 years of age have watched Everton since I was eight and the tactics employed now are unbelievably BAD....
Vincent - I have to disagree with you about Neville - It seems that every time we get a bad result the same players are slagged off. I think the main reason we lost was down to playing the wrong formation i.e. tactically Moyes got it wrong. Feed the Yak and he will score - not with the scraps he had to go on on Saturday. Saha shouldn’t be dismissed as a "sicknote" - I am sure that being injured pisses him off more so than any fans.Given the chance I am sure he will come good.He is a bit short of match practice - the only way to overcome that is to play him!! I was very disappointed we didn’t play Saha and Yakubu and also Castillo. I just hope he doesn’t go with 4-5-1 again on Thursday. We do have players with pace and we have some good attacking players - but you can’t score from the suns bench. At times I think Moyes is obsessed with 4-5-1.Yakubu was isolated up front and that was clear from about 15 minutes. Their defenders didn’t look too clever when we put pressure on them - that Skirtel’s rubbish. But unfortunately we gave them too much time. They may have expensive international players - but any player can be forced into mistakes if put under pressure. No sooner was the ball cleared by Everton than it came straight back as Yakubu lacked the support. Hopefully Moyes will give 4-5-1 a rest for now.
