My complaint sent to Aunty re Alan Green

Comments (19)

Dear Sir/madam,

What is the procedure for deciding who commentates on which matches?

My concern centres around Mr Alan Green. I do not expect a commentator (certainly one working for the BBC) to posses such biase in their views when commentating on a match involving a particular team. Two teams centre around this, one being Liverpool, of whom Mr Green is clearly a supporter. The other is Everton who Mr Green clearly does not appreciate or enjoy to commentate on.

He consistenly points his views in a negative way and against any thing for in favour of Everton. This weekend saw the Merseyside derby which his comments in the end lead me to this complaint. Admittedly Everton were not at their best however Green was consistently negative against them yet again, not one positive comment and went to great lengths to criticise them. Liverpool were also not at there best but green clearly saw this as a bad day at the office and brushed over it.

It got to one point where he completly crossed the line. Tim Cahill made a poor tackle which lead to him receiving a red card. Obvoiusly Greens view was that it should have been a straight red, others (Alan hansen on MOTD) would disagree but fine this was his opinion and was the only comment required. However to go on to discribe it as one of the worst tackles on a football pitch and to categorise it along with Guttries (Newcastle v hull), Pogatatz (m'boro v Man Utd) really took his biase to another level.

There was no need what so ever for this and I would like it to be considered that Green would be put out of his misery and no longer considered as a choice for future Everton matches. I would also like him to make an on air apology for his comments regarding the Tim Cahill challenge. I could go to more lengths in offering examples and proof of Greens biase however I do not feel there is the need when the Cahill example is apt enough. Whether he should be able to comentate on Liverpool matches in the future would also concern me if I were the BBC but as an Evertonian myself I will be biased (!!!!!!!!!) and just ask for him to never commentate on us again.

Regards

Craig Taylor

What was that other thread about getting fed up with football? I'm certainly fed up with Alan Green... or is it that I'm fed up reading Evertonians complaining about Alan Green? I'm so confused...

Alan Green - is possibly the worst commentator on radio/TV around at the moment. That’s putting aside any Liverpool bias he might have shown on Saturday. As far as I know he hasn’t played the sport as a professional - yet it never ceases to amaze me how he puts players down when they make mistakes. As if he could do any better!! He is clearly a broadcasting legend - in his own mind !!

Seriously. We seem to have more pressing concerns than the shambolic rants of Mr Green.

Calm yourself.

I have posted this before and will post it again. This is the truth. I’m from Belfast, where Alan Green is originally from, his father still lives over here.

Alan Green’s father was in my father’s business, his father is a really nice decent man from what i was told, a Man Utd supporter who works for my father, was talking about football with him,

The Man Utd supporter asked him in jest if Alan was a Man Utd or Liverpool supporter as it was a question every Utd and Liverpool fan over here wanted to know.

Alan Green’s father said he’s definitely a Liverpool supporter, Alan Green said he can get tickets for any Liverpool match and wanted his father to go over and watch Liverpool all the time but his father has no interest in Liverpool.

That i swear is the truth.

Me personally i stopped listening to Radio 5 a long time ago because of Alan Green. To me he’s (as Tony Marsh put it) a Grade A Sh1thouse. A low life who’s full of his own self importance and believes his own hype.

If i ever met him i’d punch him in the face such is the animosity i feel towards him because of his comments about Everton.

I agree with points you’ve made on Alan Green in general, but when a match is bad and a team is playing awful he certainly can make it more entertaining with his vitriol. Just as long as its not Everton.
While we’re on the subject, do the Beeb really need to employ two commentators and one pundit per match being covered? That’s one more person than is required, and two more than needed, add to that the travelling costs and hotels etc. I don’t care mind, I don’t pay the licence fee. I simply chose not to and they can’t do anything about it hahahahaha...

I’ve listened to Alan Green long before he went to England. He used to be an opinionated but fair reporter. Some time ago he seemed to decide that notoriety was better than being a nobody.
Take it from me,he would love it if he knew he was being discussed on this site. He’s unprofessional so let’s forget about him.

Green is a total shyte. Always has been and always biased. Dont forget he was made to apologise after the reading game last year when Sly Stallone came to the match. Thinly vailed jealously as he described Stallone as a B celeb (im no fan of his, but he clearly aint b status), and that he left early cus he might find the wheels on his car would be nicked.

Nothing good can come from NI until the british move out!

I would have thought the BBC had learnt their lesson after the climb down and appology following the remarks made by 5 chins on the appearance of that well known Evertonian Sly Stallone at Goodison. Undoubtedly he’s not finished his campaign to get the BBC into more hot water. Impartiallity is no longer a bi-word for the BBC. Do the decent thing and sack the fat bastard

I am with Michael on this one, bored of hearing about him.

We all know he is a redshite and will not change,

Luckily or maybe unluckily I was at the game and didn’t hear him.

Craig, just do what I and I imagine many others do when he comes on the radio.....change to a different station or turn it off, it will do wonders for your blood pressure.

We had this discussion last season and nothing has changed (other than I detect a very slight attempt to under-play his LFC allegiance this season). I’ve heard the anti-Cahill outburst and it was completely ’over the top’ (not helped by some sycophantic support from the summariser - which I think was Pat Nevin, surprisingly).

Alan Green is an idiot, and the BBC are probably aware of it to some extent - which is why the more intelligent Mike Ingham is the chief football correspondant etc. However, his exposure via 6-O-6 is most unwelcome (not least because it is so bland compared to other presenters - even Collymore on TalkSport). I even think Everton fans get screened-out to a greater extent when he is on (for obvious reasons).

I asked last season whether it was possible for EFC to actually ban Alan Green from Goodison Park as a result of his blatant bias against us (obviously we can have no say with away fixtures). It says much for the quality of our club leadership and marketing/PR departments that no such rebuff to the BBC regarding Green has been made.

It’s just a shame that the great traditional of radio presenters over the decades on the BBC is sullied by his continual presence. I suggest we ban him from the Grand Old Lady forthwith. That’ll put an end to the matter.
