Apart from the shocking performance on Saturday, what upset me most was how bad the atmosphere between the two sets of supporters has become. I set next to two koppites which was not the best but they celebrated their team's goals without any show of abuse towards us, as I feel they were entitled to do; I would do it at Anfield. The abuse they got was disgusting, mindless.... insert your own adjective. Is this what it has come to?
I may be looking through rose-tinted specs but I've stood on the Kop and celebrated an Everton win without all that shit. Irrespective of how we feel LFC have 'got off' with things in the past, remember it's a game, a sport. I'm not sure I want to go to a derby at Goodison anymore, which ? after 35 years ? saddens me a lot.

Totally agree, there is a moronic agressive type of fan that cannot go to the game without spitting venom and nastiness thats bordering on hysteria. What is a concern is that it gets passed on to the younger generation, you can see kids on TV near the touchline in camera shot verbally abusing playes and officials, with their parents standing by. There's nothing wrong with putting your heart into supporting your team, If you win enjoy, if you lose, then you can be disatisfied and disapointed, but be a respectful human being and show some self dignity, you only get what you give.
In Saturday's showing "fair cop" LIverpool derserved respect along with their visiting fans to our home, they played us off the park, and we made it easy for them, we have to try and do the same at the return fixture. To the morons get a life and sense of perspective, you shame the club and harm the image of this club to visiting supporters, sure it's the same in other grounds with certain supporters but that doesnt make it right. We have so many great and decent supporters that thankfully don't follow the mob.
These must be the fans Jamie Carrager was talking about, why he hates Everton so much these days, ey?
Lets have it right lads. What about the abuse that our players took last season from their darling fans eh?. I know two wrongs don’t make a right and all that but any away fan who even sits in a home section, let alone celebrates a goal, has to take what’s coming to him, in my opinion.
I have to say I agree with both Mike and Martin.I can understand how with the differences between the standings of the 2 clubs at the moment - they appear to have zillions to spend on players - we clearly don’t. They also seem to have forgotten Heysal - we are always reminded about justice for those who died at Hilsborough(and rightly so) but they don’t like to mention what happened in 1985 in Belgium. But we have to forget about any issues like that - just respond by getting behind our team even more. I am sure we don’t want the rivalry to become like that of Celtic and Rangers do we ? If there is any abuse let’s rise above it and respond with more passion for our team. How they abused Neville and Lescott at Anfield was a disgrace - but rather than hit back with songs slagging of f Gerrard why not get behind Neville and Lescott and the rest of the team.I’ve seen and heard our supporters lift far worse Everton teams than this one e.g. League Cup in ’77. And of course vs Wimbledon and Coventry - you know when !!
"far worse Everton teams than this one"???are you having a laugh.
Give me Latchford / Thomas any day over Yak as a forward line, Andy King a proper attacking midfielder, Dobbo, the heart of Mick Lyons, Pejic as an attacking full back. Need I go on.
The football was 500% better and significantly cheaper to watch. AND we were a proper big club
Totally agree. I was fuming on Saturday after watching us go 2 - 0 down with a spineless performance and all people seemed to be interested in was shouting and slagging off the kopites who were having to by escorted out of the ground. All this while our beloved team is disintegrating before our eyes. Get a grip.
Not sure whether I was seeing things on Saturday, but did Gerrard have bottles lashed at him when they had a corner? If so, it’s a bit hypocritical of us to complain about the Liege fans.
John,Carl - You rightly mention Thomas & Latchford . Big Bob on his own in a 4-5-1 formation would have struggled. And you didn’t note my reference to the atmosphere vs Wimbledon and Coventry - the relegation battles and our teams of those periods. You picked out the best players from the 70’s team but we also had the likes of Dai Davies or David Lawson in goal and Terry Darracott a willing defender yes but not exactly one of our best. I was pleased to see you include Mick Lyons in your list of players deserving praise from that era. A great captain I think and a bloke who never really gets the praise he should. The point I was trying to make was rather than spiteful or even hateful songs about the likes of Gerrard we should get behind the team. Re the spineless display - I wouldn’t call it spineless - more negative and I would blame the manager for that.he decides the tactics. And yet again he reverts to 4-5-1 instead of having a go at them>if we had tried a more attacking strategy with Saha and Yak from the start we could have put them under more pressure - the crowd would have responded and who knows what the result could have been. We would have certainly have made them work harder.
Everton have their fair share of knuckle scraping morons amongst our support, just like any other team including the RS. I don’t care where you go, you can’t expect to sit in amongst opposition fans and not get stick, or worse, if you carry on when your team score or whatever. It’s not right, but it’s the real world. Try it at Anfield some time. I also stood on the kop wathcing Everton in the 70’s and 80’s, but you were in amongst the Everton fans ho congregated at one end, not stood among the RS. I’ve seen people punched there and all.
It clearly isnt a ’friendly’ derby anymore (if it ever really was) and we shouldnt accept away fans in our end, in full kits ffs, whatever team they are. They were taking a seat of a further Evertonian supporting voice and it makes us look like mugs when they score and jump up in our end. We shouldnt sit in there end and they shouldnt sit in ours. Giving up our home support shouldnt be an option.
Brian, no you were not seeing things. A moron a couple of rows in front of me through a bottle at Gerrard as he took the corner. The aforesaid moron is a season ticket holder. Sad but true.
I found myself a little ashamed to be an Everton fan on Saturday. Events on the pitch didn’t help but the atmosphere in the Street End after the second goal went in was not good. As somebody has already mentioned at the exact time we need to be right behind the team many people were more interested in abusing Liverpool fans. One guy was intent on getting over the wall into the paddock to get at what must have been a 15 year old red sitting next to his mother. A mother who had an Everton shirt on. FFS. The poor kid looked terrified... the drunken moron probably thought he was within his rights to do what he did as how dare anybody have the temerity to wear a Liverpool shirt that close to us.
Sadly the response from the Everton fans when the moron was rightly ejected did our club no credit at all.
I have followed Everton for 40 years, I have a season ticket in the Street End and on most match days there is no other place I would rather be. The atmosphere at Goodison, and in the first half on Saturday, compares with any ground and I have been to most. But I am unlikely to go to a Derby at Goodison again. Sad but true.
I can’t comment about our fans but I was in the Lower Bullens near the back and there were more Liverpool fans than Everton fans. How they all got tickets I don’t know.
There were 2 kids in Everton kits sat near us, one went and sat in another part of the ground 5 minutes into the match because he was in tears and the other clung onto his parents for the entire match.
The aggressiveness shown by these fans took s back to the dark ages of football. My girlfriend hardly dared speak all game as she was scared someone would have a go at her.
The language was disgraceful, every other word was c##t. I’ve got a 1 year old son and theres no way I’d ever consider taking him to a derby in any other place but the family enclosure until he’s at least a teenager.
I remember when I had a season ticket 7/8 years ago and I sat next to a Liverpool fan during a derby, he got no abuse and we chatted for most of the game.
Sadly I think those days are gone.
Whatever happened to the times where our fans cold sit side by side and enjoy friendly banter?
I was actually typing out a piece to put into the mailbag saying virtually the same thing. I actually felt ashamed at some of the filth which was being spouted on Saturday. We all get carried away at times and we all want our respective teams to win, whether you support Everton or Exeter or Liverpool or Lincoln. However enough is enough and this obsession with Steven Gerrard has to stop. OK the 1st time we heard the song it was amusing but now its just pathetic. Whoever throw the bottle and coins at him when he took a corner should be shopped to the police and banned from Goodison for life. I’m totally expecting the same if not worse when Rooney comes to town in a few weeks. One man, and I use the word loosely, in the corner of the Gwladys Street and the paddock, defied belief and the gas bottles in his neck where close to exploding just because a few Liverpool fans in the paddock had the temerity to celebrate a goal. The stewards approached the moron, who basically motioned first one in gets it, they then backed off and waited for the police. The missing link then proceeded to change his shirt with his mate, so the police wouldn’t know who he was !! Problem was some other Neanderthals around him where sticking up for him "I am Spartacus" style he soon shut up when a copper grabbed him and lashed him out. A young lad of a about 15 in the paddock, with a red shirt on, was absolutely terrified and quickly put his coat over the top of his shirt. If this is sport you can count me out and I’ll be seriously looking at not attending the Derby Match next season.
I was in the Park End and actually thought the atmosphere was a lot better on saturday than at previous derbies, but judging by some replies above maybe I was just lucky where I was sitting. There were a few exchanges but that is to be expected in a local derby. What is out of order is songs about Michael Shields, Steven Gerrard’s kid, murderers etc. These fans shame our club - I for one don’t want to watch a football match in this atmosphere.
I went to a derby at Anfield a few years ago and will never go to a derby away again. Sitting amongst our hardcore fans and their constant bile has permanently tarnished that game for me.
To watch us rolling over and getting dicked AGAIN at our own ground is akin to the most painfull death.... perhaps if the overpaid gang of shite wearing the holy blue shirts had our passion, we wouldn?t be in the mess we are today....
So, to all the horrified blues from last Saturday out there, contemplating not going to a derby match again, I say ..Grow some balls and fight if needed for yer team and its supporters!!!

Well said Tony Gee! If you sit amongst the home fans and show off your colours and shout and cheer when your team scores you should expect abuse. Its not as if its all hugs and smiles if an Everton fan were to do the same at any other ground.
You tree hugging fannies just dont get it do you...Tony Gee
and your idea of fighting for your team is to try to beat up 15 year old reds?
I think your answer just about sums up the deluded mentality that unfortunately abounds at the moment.
You really should get over it and slowly try and live a normal life. I love Everton, I dont hate Liverpool, as painful as Saturday was for us fannies, and I certainly don’t get bitter and twisted over a tragic incident that happened over 20 years ago. The two loudest chants in the second half were the hilarious Gerrard chant and the brilliantly witty ’Murderers’. Is that supporting Everton? Does that help the team? In your world is that fighting for your team? Sad.
Were you the guy trying to get into the Paddock? Is that what growing balls does?
Tony,
You're right mate.... we certainly don't get the mentality of morons like yourself.
Tony Gee. The word hate is one of the most evil words ever to be used Aristotle viewed hate as a desire for the annihilation of an object that is incurable by time. And to hate something with all your soul is a just a total waste of energy. Yes I don’t like what Liverpool stand for, the dodgy pens the luck and the constant whining when things go wrong at times defies belief. However some of my, and no doubt your, best friends are Reds and to want them annihilated is just a tad over the top wouldn’t you say. The young lad I spoke about in my comment was absolutely terrified, this could easily have be your son or nephew, how would you feel then ?. I’ll tell you what we’ll try to arrange a meeting with just you and Gerrard then you can tell him to his face one to one.
Tony Gee- Stop living in the past. It is bitter blues like yourself that give the rest of us a bad name.
Martin - I totally agree with you there. Yes we did sing the song " Oh we hate Bill Shankly and we hate St John............" back in the 1960’s. But the bit about hanging the Kopites on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey was tongue in cheek and not to be taken seriously. Tony Gee’s reference to tree hugging is way off beam as is the label of murdering scum about Liverpool fans.
I’ve been an Evertonian for 44 years of my 51 years on this planet, I’ve been to Derby games at both Goodison and Anfield.I’ve seen some memorable results/performances by the Blues ( e.g. 3-1 with Alan Ball scoring 2 and later the same season 1-0 in the FA Cup and the 2-0 Danny Cadermarteri game)and some less so ( 0-5 in ’82) when we play them I passionately want us to beat them. However there is a line that you don’t go over - I recall with shame some of our songs re Munich ’58 to taunt Man Utd fans.I expect Tony would see no harm in songs like that. Do we really want the same atmosphere of hate to exist at Everton v Liverpool Derby games as exists at Celtic v Rangers games ? I would hope not. I am not suggesting that we don’t get passionately behind our team, but there is a world of difference between that and songs of vitriolic hatred. Some years ago - within the last 10 years - a young lad of about 16 - a Celtic fan was murdered because he happened to take the wrong route home after an Old Firm game - do we want to see that kind of thing happening after one of our derby games ?
Tony Gee. It looks like you hate Liverpool more than you love Everton. I’m no tree hugger myself and spent my time slagging off my own players for having no balls for the fight on the pitch rather than looking for a red nose to beat up and take my frustration out on. There is a difference.
Threatening violence towards other supporters is completely unacceptable.
However when you sit in another teams section, you should respect this fact and not make any actions that could be construed as inciting.
If the said Liverpool fans were simply watching the game with their shirts on then they are well within their rights to be left alone both physically and verbally, as they would not have done anything to draw attention to themselves.
But if they are there wildly celebrating and generally winding up Evertonians then they must surely expect that someone might take things too far.
No as I said violence towards them is unacceptable, but to expect no reaction is, these days, unrealistic.
Unfortunately we have had no recent successes across the park for the theory to be tested the other way. But based on other evidence such as being spat on from the upper tier of the Anfield Rd hardly suggests that such reponses would be solely from the Blue side.
Tony Gee I read your letter and to be honest I feel anger and pity for you,I also fear for the future of my club.I have supported Everton home and away for 50 years I have seen great victories and humbling defeats but I have never believed that its a insult for a supporter to cheer when his team scores like you morons do,when we score and your cheering is it to get at the opposition fans? of course not that a kid in any shirt should feel so intimidated at goodison disgusts me.I take my 8 year old grandson to matches and to think he could be subjected to that makes me shudder, what I also find annoying is you people think you are great fans lets get it straight WE DONT WANT YOU if you cant conform to common decency please stay away ,do you think the rest of us dont hurt when we lose?or dont care if so get a life as for the vile songs and chants yes both lots of fans have awful songs ,but being Everton I some how expect us to be above it as some one has posted the first rendition of Gerrard’s song was funny ,but the joke ended a long time ago and as for the moron throwing a bottle I hope the club look in to it and you are dealt with.,I know we can not go back to the days of fans side by side enjoying a bit of banter but if this is not stopped football will be the loser,my daughter had to be persuaded to allow my to take our grandson to games and with things like this she might have a point.
The scumbags that are the LFC have no right to sit in the HOME end thats what the AWAY end is for. I hate them with all my soul the murderers end off, denied us our shot at the european cup with a quality side.
R.I.P those thirty Nine INNOCENT italians killed by those darling Kopites.
Ironic, that the nerdy like Evertonians who are sat by their PCs all day are the first to lambast me for my Die hard beliefs...
Wait till the proper working class blues get in from a decent days graft, and lets judge their response to my original post...
I think you will find my silky skinned blues, that you lot are very much in the minority..
i’m on a day off by the way playing poker online, thats why my pc is on... before one of you quick witted dandy boys has a pop...
And just to throw in for good measure, i’ve attended over 700 Everton matches since i first started going in the 80s, so my everton credentials will stand up to anybodys...
I crave the day the new breed of sky evertonian (like probably most of you)loses interest in our club, and gets carried off on another whim ar fad, so we can get back to being a club I can be proud of once again...
Run Run where ever you may be....
Tony Gee and Roy- before you go calling our neighbours scumbags maybe you should both look in a mirror?
Priceless ... it just keeps getting better and better.
Does anybody still sing ’Run Run ’ only in your dream world I think Tony.
Nerdy Evertonians? because we have a PC?.... brilliant
Proper working class blues? ... hilarious
I was born in Garston, my father worked at Fords for twenty five years, am I a proper working class blue?
You are wasting your time playing poker you should be writing jokes for somebody like Cannon and Ball who were big around the time I thought ideals like yours had disappeared.
My worry is that people like you actually believe what you write even days after the disappointment.
It is a sobering thought.
I’m a working class Blue Tony, and I think you’re a first class arsehole. I include Roy in that category also.
Martin Gray...
If your old man worked in Fords for 25 years, then chances are, he was a work shy lazy arse, like most of em attending that place in the 80s and 90s...
You should not discount the thoughts of "Tony Gee" because they are so at loggerheads with your own...
Every man has the right to his opinion...
Gerry... even if that opinion incites hatred and violence..? I think not..!
Gerry, harsh but possibly fair assesment of Halewood, although I am not sure where that fits in this debate.
You are right every man etc .. I most certainly don’t discount his opinion I challenge it.
Oaky, that’s quite enough on this topic. Thank you all for your inciteful contributions.
Martin Gray..... Run run was sang at Liege last week and Saturday.
Tony Gee just because you can’t afford Sky no need to criticise those of us who can.
