A little bloke with a big mouth

Comments (24)

Our tears of frustrated anger after a disgusting derby have barely dried and already, Osman, one of the main reasons for our grief has burst into print spouting about what he and his equally pathetic team mates will do to Standard Liege. When will the PR dickheads get it into their thick skulls that the only thing that can save face is a win. Until the runs are on the board it would be best if the whole blooming mob shut the fuck up.

Osman was invisible on the pitch on sat for long periods but so was Gerrard does this mean perhaps that the occasion means too much to the local lads? btw ppl keep blaming hibbert for the goals and yeah maybe a little blame can go his way but lescott was on his arse 4 the 2nd wen he was supposed 2 b markin torres, i love lescott but as a centre back playing him at left back is the injustice that liverpool subject Gerrard when he’s on the right wing! Lets play 2 our strengths and thats not talkin about it thats doing it, usually the hard way!

I actually think that Phil Neville has been one of our more consistent players this season and maybe that shows just how bad we have been as I never thought I would be saying that by October..
The one big annoying thing that gets me with Tony Hibbert other than his obvious shocking distribution is the fact that whenever a player runs at him he just jockies and jockies and jockies the man who is running at him until the man who runs at him is eventually in the box in a position to either shoot or pass so after all that backing off and jockying its got to the point where he should have just hit the guy he was marking early anyway, its a brainless tactic..
One of the things I said about Osman a while before the derby was even played was that he rarely ever has a big game in the derby or for that matter against any of the big four, he is one of those players that goes missing, you would think by now he would know what to expect in those types of matches but he never seems to get to grips with the pace of things..
I always think he will be a decent player Osman for getting maybe six or seven goals a season but other than that he probably doesnt have the ability to move onto the next level..

I agree that all this sprouting at various times by people like Neville, Osman and Co. now falls on deaf ears because as sure as God made little apples, the minute one of them is on the official website saying what they are going to do to the opposing team, you can bet your bottom dollar the result goes the other way. But have you guys thought that it is their way of hyping themselves up for the big game.

As for your title, Dick, "A little man with a big mouth" that surely is more suited to Mike "Old Mother" Riley rather than Ozzie. It beggars belief that they have turned down Timmy’s appeal to rescind his red card but someone like John Terry over a worse incident, has no problem in getting his withdrawn. The sooner we are in the big 4 the better - then we will get all the arse kissing favours that they get. Now Timmy is going to miss vital games against Man U and Arsenal. Just let’s hope Saha scores a winner against his old Club.

Patty... They turned down our appeal on Cahill because we dont have the intimidating power over the FA of the top four and also I dont think Cahill did himself any favours by walking away from the little hitler (Riley) because you would think by now he would know what Riley is like all too well, even Moyes knew this and was trying to get cahill over to him quick but obviously it was too late..
I admire your optomism Patty but somehow I dont think we will even be in a position against Man United for Saha to score a winning goal, actually looking like winning one of the games against the top four is ambitious thinking and I just dont think its going to happen again this season

At this point, I’d be happy if he get’s a shot on goal! Hell, if anyone hits the net (other than our own)...

Patty,

The reason why Terry’s red card was rescinded was because it was not a dangerous challenge and he was given it on the basis that he was the last man...he wasn’t.

Cahill was given his for a dangerous challenge...

Now I don’t think Riley is a good referee, but this endless moaning about big four bias..is quite frankly ridiculous.

Terry got off on the technicality of his offence. Cahill’s challenge could certainly have been construed as a dangerous two footed lunge. Those are the facts.

Get over it.

Ciaran for what its worth just about every neutral I’ve spoken to has expressed astonishment at the decision to give Cahill a straight red for that challenge. I think if Alonso had actually got up instead of play acting it may have been handled very differently. Replays show clearly there is very little contact hence no real reason for Alonso to have writhed in agony in the way he did. I personally think Riley gave the card because he believed Cahill had shown dissent. The idea that it constituted serious foul play doesn’t wash with me I’m afraid. Its not the first time Alonso has milked a situation in a derby and now he’s been rewarded I’m sure he will be untouchable in future derbies. The fact is Alonso was in Mike Rileys face for practically 90 mins of the game. I think you should also consider the booking handed out to Fellaini equally ridiculous in my opinion it was a nothing challenge.

But i’m with you on this one buddy.
Let’s face it. After one pathetic performance after another, they should be in hiding rather than predicting one.

I dont think Riley sent Cahill off for the dissent factor. If you look at the TV replays you will see him reaching for his left pocket straight after the tackle. His red card was hiding in there whilst his yellow one was in his right pocket. He obviously thought it was a dangerous hence the red which was a joke. Andy Johnson got a yellow for one which was a whole lot worse for Fulham at the weekend. On the matter of Cahill not going to the ref to get his card why does he have to?? Can't the ref just show the card and get on with the game like they do in Uefa games or do they like to behave like school teachers telling all the naughty boys off??

That some persuasive arguments strung together there, Chris - I always kind of liked Nevillle, Osman, Moyes and Kenwright, but you’ve convinced me otherwise...

Come on TW guys, how on earth did this comment slip through???

Can I stand up for Leon, the scapegoat du jour? From all accounts Leon is a decent bloke, he is a talented, committed, local player, who has risen through the ranks. He gives his all for Everton (recently playing through the pain barrier) and he weighs in with regular goals from midfield. What is he supposed to say if a journalist asks him about our chances? As one of our more senior pro?s he is simply fulfilling his club duties. I like your passion but to say Osman is ?one of the main reasons for our grief? is misguided and makes you sound like a dick, Fearon.

The Neville and Hibbert bashers are at large again. Anybody looked critically at where Yobo was or was not doing for the 2 goals against the old enemy? Look at some of the other goals we have conceded this season as well.

Lescott is centre half and that is where he should play. Somebody - the Manager - has to make a tough choices to get 3 in to 2 even if at least one of them nver sems to attract any comment or criticism.

I too will also defend Leon Osman on this one, and I agree with the earlier comment which argued the point as to what Leon is supposed to do when questioned by a journalist ?? If he had declined to comment and said nothing, I dare say that would have brought about another write up and everyone would be having a go at him for not saying anything and having no faith or confidence in the team.

I accept that Osman was poor in the derby, but he has been on top of his game so far this season, that game apart, and he’s allowed one poor showing surely, and to be fair the style of play didn’t exactly play to his or any of the midfields strengths now then did it !!?

I also have to mention my absolute disbelief at the comments concerning the two goals we conceded in the derby, with regards to Hibbert etc......... Again it has been mentioned earlier, but a certain Mr Yobo is completely to blame for both. Just take another long slow look at the goals, and on both occasions Yobo was marking Torres at the start of each move and just allowed him to make a simple run away, while Yobo fell asleep, ball watched, found himself in no mans land, only to look up and find the player he should have been marking smacking the ball into the net completely unmarked twice !!!

I am a massive Yobo fan, but sadly he has been switching off and sleep walking on numerous occasions so far this season, and has been responsible for a few goals conceded already. I just hope he can switch his inner light back on and get his head in the game for 90 minutes because so far he is only managing about 70 minutes switched on.

For me Jags has easily been our top performing defender by a mile, becuase he is always switched on, reads the game and covers for the others superbly. His only fault is that he far too often opts to lauch that dreaded long ball forward. If he could cut that out of his game then he would be fantastic, and he can play, he is good on the ball, so that needs to be sorted too. Perhaps the likes of Castillo offering the short option would be of benefit to that cause !!

I feel the Cahill sending off, was a throw back to the incident Riley had with Ashley Cole, when Riley blew for the foul by Cole, the player just walked away, pointing to his name on his back, not responding to at least three calls from Riley.
The incident made Riley look rather foolish, and with Tim doing the same, it just was not going to happen a second time. especially live on tv.

Stephen Parris,

If you’d been watching our defensive lapses as closely before saturday -you’d have realised that the player you say has been our best defender this season has been responsible for more goals than anyone else...

Gary western...cahill was sent off for a two footed dangerous tackle - im really quite sick of Evertonians defending dodgy challenges fromblue shirts and screaming blue murder when they come from the other direction -

it certainly wasn’t consistent with the other cards in the match - but it was still a possible red card.

I think we need to get over our persecution complex.

Ciaran McGlone,

Clearly I have been watching a different game altogether, because as far as my eyes could see, Jags has been far from the offender this season. Both Lescott and Yobo, have clearly been at fault on plenty more occasions, through lack of concentration and general individual errors. Perhaps Jags’s attempts to cover for them is what leads you to believe different ?

Also, we all know why Cahill was sent off, but we also know that it should have warranted a yellow card at best and nothing more. If one of our boys in blue commits a dangerous tackle or makes a silly challenge, I’m sure most people would express their disappointment with them, and I certainly not defend them.

Totally agree, efforts would be best put into action on the the pitch instead of blurting battlecries to the media. Lately, we get a battle cry from one player immediately leading onto the next game - telling us how things are going to change etc etc, we are fast running out of players due to the fact that things are not changing, when will they learn to shut their gobs until things ACTUALLY start to change.

Two goals against Stoke....the first one he ducked under the shot the second he put in the net himself... one goal against Blackburn.... and the first goal against Liege in which he let the player run past him to latch on to (that Lescott was also complicit in)....

Yeah, lets make Jags king.

Among all this ?we was robbed? Cahill red card talk, I hear very little people accepting that it was a dangerous challenge...and it bloody well was!
