So we are back to 4-5-1

Comments (60)

Just seen the team news and we have reverted back to a 4-5-1 formation with Cahill replacing Saha the only difference from the midweek game. Is this really the best way especially when we are at home and against Fulham who have the worst away record in the Premier League at the moment!!?? Why not give Vaughan or anichibe a start??

4-5-1 sure.... but the most attcking 4-5-1 we’ve had for a while. Wouldnt exactly say that a midfield of that make up is particularily defensive.

Typical bloody Moyes! Cahill in for Saha as the only change so he can go 4-5-1 against a no-mark team who we always beat at Goodison. Just think, another five years of this defensive shit to look forward to!

The game's pretty flat but we?ve started playing some lovely football ? I?ve been counting and only 4 so-called ?hoofballs? in the first half hour; good ref too, letting the game flow.

I think we need to get Baines on the left, he?d do us more justice with his excellent crosses. Lescott looks extremely nervy to me and Moyes has had to encourage him all game to get forward (he won?t be able to do that in the 2nd half) but even then he?s looked a little clueless because he?s a centre back!!

Fellaini is looking very dangerous and is everywhere on the pitch. I wish he?d look forward a little more and drive forward but that will come!

We look way more confident today and definitely played the better football by a fair stretch - we should win this game, should.

7 long balls I counted, 3 from Yobo, 2 Neville, and 1 each Lescott & Jags.

Mainly played on the deck and we look dead lively going forward.

Fulham are on top. Probably because they have realised that we can?t pass the ball and are once again completely isolating Yak. Saha on ? let?s hope he can finally get a goal. Cahill needs to earn his place on the pitch, he looks well off the pace ? the same goes for Arteta. If we had a decent replacement winger, Arteta would be getting subbed regularly.

We are trying to gift the game to one of the worst away teams in the Prem, one of the worst teams full stop. Moyes can?t seem to motivate the players anymore. I don?t understand the subs. Fellaini was doing OK in midfield and was our best gola threat so we take him off for Saha. Now we take out Pienaar to leave us with 3 strikers and one wannabee striker (Cahill) and a non existant midfield. We could have 10 strikers but if no one is there to supply them they will never score.

Yes, credit to David Moyes for that!

But the way we played for most of that game was a joke ? and the same mid-week against Bolton. Yeah we won but it would be nice to see some better football ? and if we play like we did against the so-called bigger teams it will be tough.

Why can't we play a bit more positive ffs? We started with 4-5-1 against Fulham at home. Why didn't we just get at Fulham like we did against Man Utd in the 2nd half last week!?

John Gee, Of course Saha and Moyes deserve credit. Saha for sticking the ?bread and butter? striker?s header away and Moyes for bringing him on. 3 Strikers being on at the end is hardly cause for credit though, as it was borne out of desperation.

Moyes would have been better to show ambition and intent from the off, i.e. set the team up (against arguably the worst away side in the league) with 2 strikers to work in tandem and pose threat and danger to score goals and occupy the oppo?s back line. Playing anything like half decent, we could reasonably have expected to have put the game to bed before the 86th minute.

Rather than isolating underperforming and under-serviced Yak in 4-5-1, 4-4-2 would have given the crowd cause for optimism and something to shout about from the first whistle. Why go 4-4-2 vs Man Utd but not Fulham? Especially as we were unlucky not to beat Man Utd and it was our best performance of the season!

Also: Football is supposed to be ?ENTERTAINMENT? to the tune of about 25 quids worth for 90 minutes! Fulham hit the cross bar and post and AJ let us off by not pulling the trigger from 5 yards!

Are you able to look past the lucky result, take the ?blinkers? off and be objective?

Hear what you?re saying, Phil, though a bit knee jerk OTT. Personally, I cannot go the game at present due to overseas work. Despite the sweet and much needed result due to Saha?s great late winner, the performance as seen on TV was pretty poor. The atmosphere seemed pretty flat as well (even considering the unfavourable location of the sound technology). I?m generally a ?glass half-full? man, but can?t help thinking that, if the performances don?t step up a lot, our progress up the table will be short-lived. My heart says we?re on the up at last but, sadly, my head ain?t sure!

Hopefully the recent good results (despite the last 2 performances being disappointing) give the lads the confidence to start playing like they can do. COYB!

MOAN MOAN MOAN MOAN MOAN!!!!!

FFS some of you need to get a grip and get behind the team. So our tactics are questionable but a win is a feckin win.

As someone said 2 wins and a draw isn?t bad.

I have come to the conclusion that our players don?t like playing at home anymore. hence partially to blame for the poor performances there. The fans get on their backs way too easy nowadays.

As for the rest of the blame well as much as I like Moyes I have to say he has pissed me off this season.

But for now I?m content with our last three results even if they were scrappy.

I reckon that watching football should be entertaining and I'm afraid we are the worst team in the league for entertainment value for home games. Man Utd was the first and ONLY game where we have played with spirit for 45 minutes.

We would have shouted blue murder if we had been Fulham today... EFC were lucky. Let's face it, we are playing dreadful football and the defence saved us today. Jags blocked and tackled like a hero and the disjointed and confidence-lacking bunch out there today were so poor playing against a not much better Fulham side who just cannot score... How the hell we got a draw against UTD is a complete mystery.

Hull City played heroically in the later match and the game was classes above the shit we are churning out... I'm not a fan who just looks at results alone ? I want an EFC side who can pass and play top level football. We are making heroes out of fucking journeymen who would not get a game at other sides. Come on and take those blue tinted glasses off ? we are a bloody awful team to watch!!

I?ve got a question for the group. I don?t get to see a lot of the games in the US, but it does sound like we?ve never got into gear this season. But would it be possible to link our awful performances with the arrival of Round and the departure of Irvine?
