Carsley

Any chance we could get Carsley back on loan until the end of the season?

Three points at the end of any game is all you can ask for and yesterday we got all three. However, I think our defence is seriously missing the cover Carsley provided.

It's affecting our strikers too, who now appear nervous going forward because Carsley isn't there to cover them if they do make a mistake or the play gets broken down.

I am hoping that Castillo can come in and take up that mantle as it appears that the rest of the squad is struggling to adapt to life without a true defensive midfielder.

If Castillo or Rodwell aren't upto the task then I wonder if we can send out an SOS to Carsley to help us out until the end of the season?

He’s gone, get over it Mike. You sound like a gilted lover.

Time for Moyes to earn his money and find a solution that doesn’t include Carsley returning.

Well why not? Moyes has already resigned Stubbs and Pistone after realising that he had no cover.

As valued a player Cars is/was, signing him back would be going backwards. I think our England center-backs need to earn their keep.

Let's move on. He was great but history or maybe we should sign Jason Koumas as the "creative force" we are lacking.

I wonder how many times something needs saying before people will allow it to permeate their apparently impenetrable brains.

Lee Carsley left Everton to be nearer his young family (he has a child with Downs Syndrome) in the midlands.

Does anyone really think he dropped down a division and gave up the prospect of European football for no good reason?

For god's sake, get over it and lets move on. He was great for us, but he was hardly Zinedine Zidane was he? He wasn?t irreplaceable.

Cars is captain at Birmingham already and is playing great for them, why would he leave?

Cars was good, we all agree. But he is no longer with us... ACCEPT IT GUYS.

What I want to know is, why isn't Castillo getting a game??

Is he injured? Or does Moyes just not like him? For me, he is an outstanding player who looks for the ball off the defence and wants to play it along the ground to a team-mate. Strong in the tackle and not scared to get forward when the opportunity arrives.

Anyone know why he doesn't even make the bench some weeks?

Andy Spense, Castillo’s injured at the moment, he did his back in whilst playing for Ecuador in a World Cup Qualifier.

Carsley has gone and we are moving on. I would like to think that we can continue forwards without the need for a 34-year-old who is playing well in the Fizzy Drink League.

In regards to Castillo, he is not injured now, he was when he returned from World Cup duty. From the little of him I saw I thought he was good at marking spaces but not the man, maybe that is why he isn?t playing now.

Tony, that’s exactly the role of the holding midfielder - you mark the space in front of the back four and pick up any dangerous opponent / ball drifting into it. If the DM marked a player then they wouldn’t be there to shield the defence.

2 clean sheets suggests that the defence is finally catching on. Carsley would be a woeful backwards step. He was finished even before he left us, and would only be worse now with his limited mobility and terrible distribution.

Our poor start has very little to do with Carsley?s leaving and everything to do with Moyes?s atrocious attitude and distracted mindset.

Well said, John Taylor. We talk about Carsley as if he was Franz Beckenbauer. He was a journeyman who give 100% and deserves our appreciation. If, however, our problems are such that we need him back then last summer was even worse than I thought.

Does no one else agree that Rodwell should be given the chance in the defensive midfield role? I think he could be a very good player and looks a far better player than Castillo who for me is a headless chicken. Castillo goes chasing the ball and just gets it passed round him, he has no discipline for the defensive mid role. Rodwell has all the attributes:- good defender, good tackler, good passer, comfortable on the ball and keeps his position well; he is also tall, athletic and has pace. The question is, can he make the step up and produce the goods on a regular basis? There's only one way to find out ? give him a chance.

Losing Carsley is not the problem! Not replacing him is the problem...

Carsley was one of the most limited midfielders ever.
