Lescott / Yak - Frustrations!

Comments (11)

As a season ticket holder, I try to be as positive as possible about our players, and certainly don't jump on their backs unless really necessary. Out of our whole squad there are two of our highly rated players that are relly not cutting it.

Firstly Lescott; the man has an incredible amount of ability, but has individually been at fault for several goals that we have conceded this season. My biggest problem wth him is that when playing full back he stands off and waits for the player to make the move, instead of getting his foot in like any good defender would, which has ended up on numerous occasions with quality ball into the box, and a goal.

He also appears to lack concentration, and a genuine desire to play his heart out. Take Jagielka for instance, the man fights for every ball, tackles hard and could never be accused of lacking enthusiasm. My views are, if someone where to bid in the region of £10 million for Lescott, then I think we could buy a decent young left back and a cover centre back, and have someone who is willing to fight for the shirt.

Now to my second gripe. Yakubu. The man undoubtedly is an excellent goalscorer, and did have me believing last year that his overall play and work rate was to be applauded. This year every time he gets the ball, within a few seconds, he is throwing himself to the floor like a he's been snipered to try and get a free kick!!!! What's even worse is the refs sometimes give it! There is no need what so ever for what he does, and I should certainly hope that Moyes does not encourage this.

I'm all in favour of getting your team an advantage when ever you can, but the Yak does this when he is one on one, or as he has a decent run on goal ? the fact he is built like a brick shithouse must surely mean he should use his strength and stands a great chance of actually making something of these opportunities. It really, really pisses me off when I have to watch him fall over like a tart week in week out. Surely I must not be the only one who sees this as a problem!!!

Got to disagree with this:

"he stands off and waits for the player to make the move, instead of getting his foot in like any good defender would"

Jostle him ... Don’t dive in!

Complely agree; also, how many times did the Yak get caught offside on Saturday? All because he was to lazy to get back... and the reason he ain't scoring goals is down to his lazy attitude so far this season.

Mark, its all well and good to jostle him, but if he’s going to get the better of you everytime and deliver quality balls into the box then we might as well not even bother having a left back!!!!

Could Lescott being played out of position have anything to do with his lack of form?

or

Could the lack of effective play through midfield, and reliance on hoofball (which your saviour Jags is the main culprit of) have anything to do with the Yak’s goal drought?

Just a thought!

Don?t think either will be a problem for long. Expect to see both sold for decent money in January or June!

I feel sorry for the Yak, he?s gettin no service at all. I can count on one hand the number of decent balls he?s received this season, four that stand out were against Blackburn, West Brom, Stoke and Liege and what was the outcome? Feed the Yak and he will score!

If Moyes wants us to defend from the front then he should play Vaughan or Anichebe with the yak. These two kids give nothink but 100% and will chase defenders all game or he could just tell his defenders to stop twaten the ball up the pitch every time they get it.

Lescott -- I think the boy is simply going through a dip in form. It happens to many players and he will come through it.

Yak -- A moot point. He has variously been described as "lazy", "slow", "unwilling" etc. I admit that I fall into the "lazy" crowd here. I haven’t seen him all that much, but what I have seen points to an obviously talented player just not being arsed! He reminds me too much of another centre-forward who spent a bit of time across Stanley Park. A big lad who spends too much of the match on the floor because he is too easily knocked off the ball and won’t put in a full shift.

I heard from a reliable source from someone who knows someone etc that Lescott had a run in with DM in summer and had actually put a transfer request in. As for the Yak, he ends up playing the same way at previous clubs. Maybe they may not be here next season ? if not earlier.

I think Lescott has looked much better the last few games and is returning to form. As for taking £10M? Never! Anton Ferdinand fetched in £8M, so Everton should look to double that amount for Lescott! The Yak always has his droughts during the season and plays well when the team play well, but maybe a match or 2 from the bench would do him good like it did last season! He, like everybody else has to know that they are fighting for a spot. Another player I would put in that catergory at the moment is Cahill, we all know he gives 100% each game, but at the mo he is off form.
