Football! It's a funny old game!

OK, how am I thinking about Evertons season so far ?

The answer is I really don't know!

On one side, I really think that, despite the fact we have been poor, we could have easily got more from every game that we hadn't won! For example, Blackburn on the opening day, Portsmouth, Hull, Arsenal and Man Utd!! Let's say an extra 6 pts and in 4th place ahead of a big 4 team and Villa with a great owner, manager and start to the season who have had a great start!! We are also only 1 point behind where we were at this time last season.

Happy days? Could have been... but I'm only papering cracks!

I went to Cuba for the summer and as sad as I am I checked the internet every day (still on dial up in Cuba so it took ages). Every day thinking "We'll get Moutinho tomorrow" became "We'll get Arshavin tomorrow" became "We'll get someone tomorrow" became "We got Carlo Nash yesterday"!! WTF!! Moutinho to Nash in 3 moves!

We have all been moaning about how we have been playing, we had the lowest attendance for 7 years last Saturday ? it even felt empty!! Anyhow, we have won 7 pts out of 9 and things are looking healthier in the league than they were a fortnight ago. We beat Bolton in injury time after a terrible game and beat Fulham at home (after moyes got the tactics horribly wrong again) only in the 87th minute.

If those game had finished a few moments earlier or we hadn't got lucky we would now be on 11 pts, -6 goal difference and on the cusp of the relegation zone with Spurs and Newcastle improving.

Let's not pretend. We ought not be happy being safe from relegation so don't let your mindsets slip to that level. It is awful to know that I watch MotD knowing full well that I will see Wigan, Hull and Stoke playing better football than us but at least we know were in safe hands???

Football's a funny old game only because you make it funny with all this "what might've been" nonsense. Aren't the actual results of the games sufficient? They are for me. What's the point in saying "we could've won and be 4th" or "we could have lost and be 17th". It's stupid. It's plain stupid. You allow fantasy football to assume greater meaning than the real thing... absolutely ridiculous. No wonder half the Everton fanbase is going doo-lally... get a grip FFS!

We could ascend into the top four; we could drop into the relegation zone... we could bounce around somewhere in-between in mid-table mediocrity. At this point in the season, with just a quarter gone, anything is possible. But how you figure we are in safe hands, I have no idea.

I agree with Mike its no good whatsoever looking at might-have-beens!! Every team in the league have lucky breaks or hard luck stories... Fulham at Goodison last week for instance!! The only way we can win games and fill Goodison is by playing good football, entertaining the fans and getting decent results... that's it!!

I thought James? "safe hands" comment was ironic, was it not?

I see the Daily Star have linked us with a renewed bid for Moutinho in January. FFS, here we go again!

Safe hands was an ironic comment. I've just re-read my post after writing it at about 2am after coming in from the dangerous "quick one after work" and didn't quite get my point across but hopefully you kinda catch my drift.

Ken Dodds dad's dog's dead, but before he died he told me that he found out from the Diddy Men that Riquelme was spotted in the Jam Butty Mines of Notty Ash. Aapparently he got lost on his way to Goodison...

Things may be looking healthier in terms of league position, but they?re certainly not looking any healthier on the pitch. We had the great turning point in the second half of the United game, which turned out to be nothing other than an island of hope in a sea of despair.

Unfortunately, since midway through last season, our club has become a greek tragedy... and I don?t see it improving any time soon.

Hey Paul Smith....
"If we?d won all our games, we would be top!!!!! "

Maybe not, cause if Chelsea won all their games too and had better goal difference they would be top.

Anyway on another note, I hear Riquelme has been seen at goodison....... La la la la la

Portsmouth hock-eyed us and Arsenal were also all over us so I don't see how we could have got 6 more points from the games you mention. Maybe an extra 2 from the United game if Yakubu had put his chance away but that's about it!!

Why do people think 31,000 against Fulham on a Saturday morning is a bad attendance in the middle of a credit crunch?

Last night the richest club in the world with a brand new stadium playing in the Uefa cup with a team full of football playing Brazilians one of which cost over £30 million scrapped in with 21,000!!! Now thats empty!!!!!!!

But of course we are Everton and it's our right to moan and blame the manager, the chairman, the shite ground and the shite football we are playing. If people spent more time supporting our beloved club than slating it at every opportunity we would be better for it.

Well said, Craig Wilson. I love Everton, whether we win, lose or draw. And while I might get frustrated by the odd poor game or dubious managerial selection, my love for all things Toffee never wains. FFS people, you are supposed to be Everton ?supporters' - not Everton ?critics?!!!

Watch out, Steve, you are opening up the floor to all the "I have been going since" brigade to tell you it is their right to moan... I mean critique the team and how they deserve and in fact demand better and then quote at you a maxim that was put on our badge over a century ago and how we should not accept anything less than total football and etc etc etc.

Considering how poorly we?ve played so far this season, I am delighted with the league position. We have managed to give ourselves a chance of repeating last season?s league form, now all we have to do is take it.

The main thing to remember is that there is no point in looking backwards at how many points we could have (for better or for worse); 3 points tomorrow could be enough to put some daylight between the top 7 and the rest.

Michael - I get the impression that you’ve had enough of editing on this site. All’s you seem to do nowdays is take the piss out of people who take the time to post. I take it you have nothing constructive to post yourself.

You are right, I have been going to the game since 1879 and it was never like this in my day.

Our recent upturn in results has come against opposition we traditionally do well against (Man United excepted) so I see no reason why we cannot carry on winning against West Ham.

Time for the Yak to end his barren run with the winner...

Yes am season ticket holder... why, what's your point?

I look forward to all your negative comments about another 3 points we have just picked up at West Ham.
