ok, so without everyone going apeshit crazy with rage, objectively speaking, what are we doing so wrong.
Clearly its going to be a long slow start to the season but it’s not a case of sell the lot and start again.
Realistically is it a tactical thing? A pace issue? The missing personnel?
all of the above?
and more importantly, what does(/should) Moyes do about it?

Viv - we are giving the ball up too easily. It’s a combination of the lack of confidence from the players and the hoofball tactics we seem to deploy when up against it.

Well half time and the scoreline flatters us. Two well taken goals. Rodwell looks to be our most settled player head up and in the right place most of the time always looking to receive a pass and his distribution is better than the rest. Ossie again is poor can doubt his effort just does not do it and cant see the simple pass. Saha looks skillful and sharper than I’ve seen him for a long time.
Sigma look quick and confident they are not a great team but we are making them liik good. break well and our defence looks shaky at best, not what we are used to!
Hope for a better performance in the second half and a couple more goals to put a bit of distance between us for the return leg!

I think its interesting that JL is in the stands, maybe his attitude is changing. If it isn’t, I hope he isn’t trying to tempt arteta and the Yak on a move!!!

A classic game of 2 halfs! a much better second half performance and 2 more as i requested. The boys all looked more at the races in the second half and Sigma visibly tired allowing us to stroke the ball around with a little more time and accuracy. Rodwell and Saha both looked class acts and the usual good shift put in down the left. Hibbo played better second half and seemed to regain a little confidence (he does a good job against the lesser teams IMO) Again Ozzie was poor and Cahil Quiet but not in his best position. Felli grew into the game and looks to have learned a thing about when to stick his foot in in the middle of the park. Could have cost us a penalty though! Over all a great result for our boys to take over there and a confidence boost ahead of the Burnley game.

Bloody Hell! that was better.

I know there are some big ’ifs’ coming here but if we do get a decent Centre Back (Taylor), a fast right winger (Bystrov) and a passing holding midfielder (Banega) in the next week then - 2 months too late - we will have significantly improved the team.

I thought Rodwell looked ready for a first team place tonight, Fellaini looked good on the ball, Saha showed real class and Pip did well as a centre-half.

I also think DM was totally vindicated in leaving Lescott out.

Given their result against Man Ure Burnley becomes a decent test whether this was an average result against a poor team or getting our show back on the road.

Leon Osman and Tony Hibbert were outstanding (second half) and some of 1st. I'm sick of seeing people do nothing but come on here to slate them both. Hate me for it but I will name and shame Tony Marsh, his article was pathetic and uncalled for a few days ago, the way he described the Board, Moyes, Hibbert and Osman was unbelievable.

I ain't just saying this because of one game, there have been countless games where Osman and Hibbert have played like this, the problem here is that a few people on this site just blast out a load of rubbish when we lose, and the 6-1 thrashing we got proved this.

Think about what you are saying before you speak... Well played lads top result, Everton TV is worth it by the way if anyone was thinking of buying.

Spot on Callum - boo boys, what possible benefit do you think its giving the lads when you’re on their backs the whole time? Even if they’re having a stinker of a game, their performance isn’t going to improve with a couple of thousand people calling them shite! And lay off Fellaini as well, he looked quality at times last season.

Good result regardless, was a little bit worried after the start. Needless to say, Rodwell was immense. But how good is Louis Saha looking at the moment, I really hope he can stay fit!

Rodwell for me was very hit and miss and frustrated the hell out of me tonight. One minute great, the next awful.

We started very bad and even from the TB you could see they should have had a penalty, quickly followed by a lucky challenge by Howard. We did ride the storm and scored some great goals.

One final note. Does Osman ever go forward with the ball these days?

What a difference it makes when Neville isn’t played in midfield. Tonight we had a young man who can tackle and pass in the middle, constantly looking to play probing passes. Added to that the ability to strike at will from distance his presence transformed us. Neville put in a good shift at the back, frankly I’ve no problem with him in a defensive role at right back. However, theres no place for him in the middle.

Fellaini is still struggling with his fitness but he really will be a presence for us sooner rather than later. Pienaar was excellent yet again. Saha though was outstanding. I questioned his signing not in any way surrounding his ability more so because of his fitness. He’s recently stated he hasn’t felt so fit in years, lets hope so. The guy is pure class and can literally dig a goal out of nothing. I’d really love to see Cahill just behind the striker though he’s wasted in a deeper role. Would have loved to have seen Gosling given a start he’s lively and is always looking to create.

Just got back from the match, We were not great at the start as i expected given saturdays performance and all the goings on. But once we scored we were in control. Saha & Rodwell shone. While Hibbert had a much better game. Onc eOsman went into the middle for the last 15 mins he was much improved confirming what we already know. He isnt a wide player. The only dissapointment on the night was once again a poor game by Fellaini,

Good game for the lads to get a few demons out of their game. We could easily have gone into a terrible downward spiral if one of those early penalty shouts had been given, but nice to see the whipping boys Hibbert, Ossie and Pip do well, Rodwell and Saha... jesus, just stay fit you two.

What is getting me though, is how much people are slagging off Felliani, he’s a young lad, not fully fit, but doesn’t hesitate to get involved and look for the ball, nice assist for the goal as well. Compare that to our talisman Cahill's games of late, anonymous apart from giving away free kicks and handling the ball. Not his natural position? Well then, lay off Ossie as that’s not his either.

Anyway, finally a happy morning to be an Evertonian; I couldn’t give a flying shag about Lescott this morning. And thanks to whoever is behind Iraqgoals, great stream last night, although (was it Ratty?) the Evertonian commentator is as sour about are team as the rest of us... laugh. Off to work smiling for a change. Well done EFC last night.

Good harrying team, Sigma though, surprised me their speed and workrate.
