Moyes not the best

Comments (23)

I can't believe what I see and hear. What have we won? Under Moyes... nothing! And while he is Kenwright's lapdog we never will. Don't forget we got around £45 million for 5th place; we could get three world class players for that — not cripples, players on loan — and the best one — players who are injured.

Now the Board want to control everything. We have nothing to shout about 'til we win something. Moyes is not his own man, he is Kenwright's puppet, leaving the lion's share of profits to the big 4 — and don't let any one question them.

I am not happy just to stay in the Premier League — why should we praise someone who has won nothing? Let's do what it says on our badge — only the best will.

What a very strange post. Is it really £45M? Of course the Board want to control everything... they're the Board. (Actually it's the CEO who controls things on a daily basis, the Board probably meets once every three months.)

And what does "leaving the lion's share of profits to the big 4 — and don't let any one question them" — mean? That's Kenwright's fault? Or Moyes's fault??? Bizarre... [Not unlike your typographic skills which are non-existent judging by the original submission... I rendered it barely fit for publication... and will probably regret the wasted effort.]

Peter,

While I agree with the sentiment... I’m going to ask you to calm down.

We cannot just lift money from the turnover and throw it at the team (as much as I’d like to)...

70% of that money has to go on wages for a start... and there’s bills (not the smug one) to be paid... fees and all sorts of other overheads..

While Kenwright's in charge we just have to accept that we live in cheap street and therefore have little chance of playing the football we desire or breaking into the elite.

I’m confused, is Moyes a good manager but stifled by BK and the board or is it all Moyes’s fault for licking arse and not constantly finishing in a CL place? Furthermore, is £45 million a lot? — hence enabling us to buy ’three world class players’ (and making 5th great) or a pittance compared to what the top four earn, therefore enabling them to buy a lot more quality than us, right???

Everton may not have won any silverware (yet!) but success is relative in the land of the Oligarch and Sheik, plus we cannot come any closer without actually lifting somthing. As for Moyes... is it two or three manager of the year awards now?

Peter,
I really wish I had some empathy with your post but it’s riddled with nonsense.

Let’s start with the basics.

EFC have made continuous operating losses almost every year since Kenwright took over.

What that means is that after income (including the £45 million you mentioned) the costs including players wages (which as somebody mentioned are about 65% of income) and interest on loans/mortgages exceeds the income. What THAT means is that we have to borrow or sell players to be able to buy players. That is why Moyes blew a gasket last season on finding the pot was empty.

In addition your headline totally contradicts the 3 times LMA manager of the year award which is voted for by the people Moyes competes against.

I too long for the days when we start to win things again but, despite the lack of backing, I can see Moyes doing that.

Jeez - so why is SAF quietly grooming DM as his successor is he’s such a loser?

As for the "Big 4" & City - it’ll end in tears when the oily ones (oligarchs & shieks) take their toys elsewhere

Haha I was wondering how long a post was gonna take to slag Moyes off... though took a bit longer than I expected because of the Joleon Lescott City saga.

That money, as Ciaran states, will go to wages, but not just that, it will pay to our continuing debt we have, plus maybe towards DK. Some of it would go to the transfer budget but no where near the £45 million.

Investment is the problem and the sooner this DK crap is sorted, the sooner we’ll get it. We’re not gonna progress to the top 4 without more money... simple as that!

I wonder if Sparky Hughes would swap places with Davey Moyes? Instead of working for a sheik with a new cowboy outfit, being told to buy the ’best’ and being told to get lost, he would be earning respect at a genuine football club. I think he would snap BK’s hand off.

The problem we have and a lot of other teams at the momment is the transfer marker is over-inflated and your 3 world class players are costing around £20m to £30m. The problem is average players are costing fortunes as well — look at the Johnson transfer to Liverpool.

So when you get an £18m striker on loan for a year, thats good business. If Moyes wants to bring in loan players, it's ok by me... Wasn't Arteta on loan to us?

It’s crank pots like Peter who gives us few fans that have genuine criticisms of Moyes a bad name. Surely this is a wind-up thread.

Moyes may not be the best tactician in the world. But i’d take him any day over a cheque book manager like Benitez. He is certainly the best of the rest when it comes to limited resources and football is changing boys.

I predict in a couple of seasons it will be a more level playing field, footy cannot go on as a spectator sport the way it is going. The money being spent is obsene and something will have to give. If he is still with us (Man Utd sniffing I fear), let’s see what Davy boy is capable of then. In the meantime, carry on as we are.

I think on reflection there’s a good chance this Peter twerp is a kopite or wind-up merchant. I don’t usually think like that but two salient points are: (1) he’s never posted before, not even to provide comment; and (2) he is totally fucking illiterate. I should have posted the original version for a real laugh.

I admit I probably should have ditched it; I was obviously feeling a little too generous earlier today!

Cripples and injured should probably fall into around about the same catergory mate.

Sorry to be picky, but I’m kinda lost for words as to how to put down a meaningful reply to your very silly post
